Nayelli got a reaction from Nacol in A Little Liver Info...and I Get Banded Tomorrow!Hi there, Well first congrats! seconf i'm 2 weeks post op and I was supposed to lose 22lbs thats 5% of my weigh during my pre-op diet and I only lost 17lbs. I confess I did cheat a couple of times =( ( not proud) I ate 5 chicken nuggets from wendys, one zip of coke, another day I ate a chicke wrap and one time I even ate some soup. Anyway I was allowed one lean meal a day so I shoud not have done that. After surgery my doctor told my family that he almost stopped the surgery because the liver was almost too big and almost unsafe to operate. I was only 5lbs under my pre-op goal weight and even he tough there wouldnt be an issue but there almost was. Best of luck to you tomorrow hope everything goes well for you. I invite you to see my journey on youtube. here is the link to my third video wich is my first day post-op

I had the same issue, so i found protein shots at walmart, they make a 26 grams of protein and a 45, i personally like the fruit punch the watermelon was terrible! Just remember that your body can only absorb 30-35 grams at once! So it was still hard for me to drink it fast so just sip on it, you can get 6 shots for $10.00.

Nayelli reacted to mi_illusion_st in 3 Day Post-Op Having Major Trouble Drinking All Of My Protein In.Most people right after surgery have a difficult time getting it all in, your still healing do your best and don't stress add more as you can soon it will be second hand nature.

Don't drive yourself crazy, having lower Protein for a day or two won't kill you, so just do the best you can.
I didn't like Isopure at all, so make sure you taste them before buying a whole bunch. My favorite was the GNC Lean shake in chocolate.
Good luck.

Thank you all for your concern. The fever broke before I went to bed last night and I feel good this morning. I promise I will call the doc if it comes back.
-
I second Isopure, the grape and green apple are pretty good. Watch the lemon tea, as it has caffeine and depending on what your instructions are, you may not be able to have this yet. I was told no caffeine for 2 weeks after surgery.

Hey nayelli,
I was banded on Monday soninguess that makes day 5. I completely understand how you feel. I was not hingreyvatvall the first 3 days. In fact I had to force myself to have at least 1 Protein shake a day. And the first one took about 4 hours to drink. Today is day 5 and I felt my first real hunger sign. Today I actually was able to have 3 Protein shakes and a bowl of Soup. Everyday gets easier.

Nayelli reacted to proshooperLinda in 3 Day Post-Op Having Major Trouble Drinking All Of My Protein In.The idea is first protein then water and other liquids. There is a product called LiquiCel that is like the shot of protein. Target carries it but you have to ask at the pharmacy for it...it's not cheap but worth the price - check out the per oz. cost to compare and the taste is better than a lot of the other shots out there. There is also Isopure which is 40 grams of protein in 20 oz. of water so it counts for both! I find it at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe if you have them locally. Good luck and do the best you can! And sip. sip, and sip all day if you need to!

I agree with the Protein shots. Mixing a scoop of Matrix protein with yogurt is another option.
Are you of your recently banded still having pain in the port area and/or running a low grade fever?
I am on day 5 and cannot get up from lying down without help. I can stand from sitting without problems. Also, it seems every evening my temp get up in the high 99s or low 100s.l

I was the same way. My surgeon's nurse told me to get the protein shots. I was able to get them down even when I wasn't hungry. They look like those energy shots, can be found at WalMart by the protein powder & drinks. They are usually fruit flavored & are loaded with protein. You can also get them from GNC.

Another key point that I read while doing some research is that those who actually measure their portion sizes rather than "eyeball" the portion for accuracy are more successful with weight loss.
Another example of the eyes being larger than the stomach (or pouch)!

Keep a food diary and activity log (or use Fitness Pal to log). I think often people feel they are active or eating appropriately and in "denial" of the truth or don't realize the reality of the situation. Logging it, will help you assess where you are really at and where you should focus on improvements. Don't beat yourself up for a "bad day", build a bridge, get over it and back on the right path.
Also, reach out to others for support. We have all gone through a lot of similar struggles and triumphs. Getting support, encouragement or a needed kick in the a$$ can do wonders!!
Find what works for you. We all enjoy different activities and foods. Make yourself a priority. I remember always putting myself last to make sure my kids or others were taken care of until I learned that by making myself the priority we all "win" and benefit. I am a better mom and fiance when I am happy and feeling good about myself, when I have the energy to keep up with my family and am excited about doing things and enjoying life.
This LB lifestyle isn't a punishment! It is a gift!!
