Jendkopp got a reaction from Deedee12 in Conversion from lapband to sleeve - lower BMI
contact www.wlsappeals.com - they helped me get my band removal and sleeve conversion 100% covered at a lower bmi. it is a free phone call and they are super helpful (and saved me the $20,000 out of pocket cost of a sleeve that my dr insisted would not be covered). because the removal was necessary, you can get the conversion 100% covered as long as you request coverage before you remove the band. my dr waits 3 months between removal and conversion, but the key was to request ins approval for conversion when requesting coverage for removal in order to get both converted. hope this helps.

when my dr removed my band, she accidentally left a stitch in my stomach that caused my stomach to create a little pouch that would trap food and cause awful reflux for 3 months

I gained about 8 pounds between Band and sleeve. I'm not on solids yet, so I'm hungry a lot, but 4oz does satisfy me for an hour or two

Jendkopp got a reaction from Frustr8 in Lap band January 2019 surgery date
I was banded 6 years ago, followed all the rules, and lost 90 pounds. Then my band slipped, which required repositioning surgery in 2014 - 1.5 years after getting the band. Had to have the band removed aug 2018 and converted to sleeve

Jendkopp got a reaction from Healthy_life in Who has had the sleeve? How did you do? Pros and cons? Would you do it again?
I had the band and lost 90 pounds. However, it slipped after 1.5 years, and I had repositioning surgery. Never quite worked the same after that. So 4 years later I got the band removed, and 3 months later (last month) I got the sleeve. I would not recommend the bad. It seems to cause problems for the majority after a few years

I know I’m only 4.5 weeks post-op, but I’m concerned about how to get enough nutrition when limited to 4oz of food. I’m still on puréed, so I’m hungry all the time. Last night was my first time back to exercise, and I had no energy. How will I have enough energy to work out when I’m only eating 4oz meals. I know some will say to not exercise for a while, but I’m a group fitness instructor and can’t just quit.

Jendkopp got a reaction from Frustr8 in Reflux AFTER Band removal
UPDATE: when my dr did the sleeve, she noticed my stomach was super bloated and still had food in it. The cause - she had left a stitch in my stomach during the band removal surgery 3.5 months earlier, and that portion of my stomach made a pocket that was trapping food and causing reflux.
@marilyn1955: did your dr not prescribe PPIs for reflux. i'm on nexium for 1 year post sleeve

I'm 7 years out. I'm 116 pounds. My body picked my goal weight for me and really likes it here, so maintaining is easier than it could be. But I do have rules I live by.

I weigh at least weekly. I do not worry about tiny fluctuations but nip anything out of my maintenance window immediately. Complacency leads to larger regain. I don't avoid food groups, but I do put Protein first. I will usually choose a protein snack. I indulge when I want, because I believe forbidden foods lead to binges. I don't want the yo-yo. It works for me. I never graze. I either portion food out and eat it, or I don't, but no mindless or emotional eating.

I still have a ton of restriction, so maybe that's made my journey easier. And my tastes changed a lot. I don't care for potatoes, or sweets. I can't have milk or eat ice cream due to lactose intolerance. But just being mindful is what keeps me successful. I think before I eat. I don't have to track anymore, it's just second nature. The scale is my tracker. And it hardly moves.

I think this is the ideal. I'm happy, can't complain.

call me crazy, but i enjoyed having 2.5 weeks off from work. i binged watched a bunch of tv shows and relaxed. i was really lucky that i was only on pain meds for 3 days (which made me super sleepy). after that, i relaxed at home and with friends.

my dr does band to sleeve conversions in two separate surgeries, in part to let your body go back to pre-wls so getting the sleeve will be more like a first wls. i got the band removed 8/28 and was sleeved 12/18. i'm just over 2 weeks post-op, so i can't give you much more info than that. sleeve start weigh 209.4; current weight 198.6

Jendkopp got a reaction from Skc150 in December 2018 Sleevers!
@Skc150: my surgeon makes ppl wait 6 months after Band removal so their stomach can heal, so as not to staple the delicate tissue left after scar removal. She also believes that the time will allow our body to go back to normal so the sleeve will feel like a new WLS. My insurance changes in January, so she agreed to let me have the sleeve surgery in dec
