Just wanted to say I finally reached 100 pounds lost today! I was sleeved on 10/7/14. Didn't happen by my surgiversary as I hoped but that was definitely due to me. Just happy to finally have hit this goal and now on to the next.
Good luck to everyone starting their journey! It's not easy and not fun but it will be so worth it.

Hi all...First time posting to this group. I am 3 months out, 69 lbs down (21 lbs in pre-op diet, 48 lb since surgery on 11/20). I am pleased with vsg so far. No surgery complications and no issues with food.

newattitude got a reaction from skinnygirlwithin in Do you feel a lot cold than a non surgery person ?
I've always been able to get away with wearing the lightest coat in the dead of Winter because I was always too warm. Had to sleep with a fan on at night to try and stay cool. Kept my office as cold as possible with a fan.
Now, I wear a sweater in the office, slippers at home, never have the fan on and actually have to zip up my jacket! I'm not quite halfway to my goal weight. I will probably end up walking around clutching a heater by the end but it will still be worth it!

Quick update ladies.. I'm now 3 days post op. I'm supposed to be getting discharged as soon as my doc makes his rounds around 10am. This hospital has made me feel incredible after surgery... I call it a "boutique" hospital. They only have 20 beds and the nurse to patient ratio is 3 to 1. They're making me walk every hour on the hour and I have to take my sips right on time. They're making me do cough productively and also the diaphragm training thing. I'm no longer on the morphine pain pump but instead they're giving me loratab for pain and a shot of heparin in my stomach for blood thinking. I'm still hooked up to an iv for potassium and every once in a while they give me some to prevent ulcers as well. Sorry for rambling... I'm just so excited right now and had to come tell you guys about my experience. I just had my first couple of toots as well lol but they weren't stinky. I'm dying for a shower but they said I can't until the doc makes rounds.

I had my first visit with my surgeon today. I have decided to get sleeved! I have my medical clearance on the 27th. Looks like I will be having surgery in April. I also found out I have no deductible or copay for the surgery.
This is getting real and I'm getting excited. After years of taking care of everyone else, I am making 2015 all about me!

Today is a great day for me. I made it to onderland and I pray to never see the 200's again. This is my first major goal and I am beyond thrilled and feeling thankful every day that I had the courage to do this surgery. Yay me! Next goal.....185....14 pounds from now. Good luck everyone. This is a great gift.

    Hey All;
Thanks for this post. As I'm still learning this site - I tend to get lost...or just stop trying to navigate through things. My phone and my desktop computer seem completely different when accessing here...blah, blah. I tend to check in with my 10/20/14 crew daily, but I will also recommend we all jump over here also....or, perhaps they're already here and the joke is on me...lol.
So anyway - today is day 7 post op for me. I have my RN phone follow-up today, and I have nothing but good news for her. I have my MD post-op on 11/6.
I feel that I've done quite well this week. I'm on day 5 of my full liquids. Today = 10lbs post op weight loss for me.
I wasn't sure if my gastro issues were from the nonfat milk I mix with my Protein shake or just from getting used to eating again. Yesterday I resolved that it was the milk and am now trialing with Almond Breeze and Soy milk. I think that should do the trick for most of the symptoms. I had a little grumbling yesterday and now wonder if it was the pudding that remains in my meal plan. I'll continue to try isolating/connecting the symptoms with the food....one-by-one....until I figure it all out.
I'm getting my walks in; post-op I'm averaging 1-2 miles per day....usually with 2-3 short walks. Still trying to regulate my sleep. This past week I just slept when the urge came, and I'm a little off. This week I'm gonna try to nap less during the day and sleep at night; wish me luck.
My full liquids are doing fine. I don't cook and am not creative so I'm sticking with the pre-packaged sugar-free puddings, Trader Joe's boxed creamier Soups, low fat cottage cheese, sugar free apple sauce, etc. While I seem to get full with each meal, I found/find myself getting super hungry between meals - which are approx 4-5hrs apart. So I'm conducting a little "timing" study by setting my stopwatch for, at least, one minute between spoonfuls to pace myself, and, as my dietitian says - to allow my stomach time to tell my brain I'm full/satisfied. Hopefully this will help alleviate the super hungries between meals. Other than that - I try to breathe....lol....walk, relax, meditate, chat on-line with you all, etc, to keep my mind off of my 'apparent' hunger. I'm not one to cheat/snack, so I'm not worried about overeating. I'm just trying to re-train my brain to NOT feel hungry when I'm - uh - not hungry. Clear as mud? LOL.
I am now following this area/thread/site....whatever it is....and will remain in touch.

    Greetings
Just changed my date from Sept 15 to Oct 20 so I could attend an important function. Not so I could eat....lol....but to be well/strong enough to attend the function which was just six days after my September surgery date. Soooooo I accepted my Surgeons very next available which is October 20.
I've been living the pre-op lifestyle for approx 10wks and have already lost 30+ lbs....."healthily" if that's a word. Of course - it's no doubt easier (for whatever reason) for men to lose weight, but, I have really embraced the lifestyle (meal plans, exercise, attending support groups, mindfulness, etc). I suppose it helps that I'm (now) single with no children/family to deal with as I begin this journey. Yep, was married with children for 30yrs, and, while I lost the weight, often, sooner - rather than later - I gained it back +. It was just too difficult to be focused and/or considerate of the family while I attempted to get healthy......again! To this end - I applaud all who are beginning this journey in the midst of 'family life'. Best wishes to you.
Soooo 51, single, retired, new home/lifestyle/attitude. The time is right for me, and I'm SUPER excited.
My main topic(s) within my new circles and with my medical team are - now that I'm no longer 100lbs over weight, a) will I no longer qualify for the surgery, and, since - with or without the surgery - success/long-term maintenance depends 100% on compliance with the lifestyle - what is the real benefit of going ahead with the surgery? Thankfully, my medical team assured me I would never be disqualified from the program because I lost too much "pre-op" weight.....YaY! My support circles helped me to understand - if I didn't have any objections or medical concerns - the procedure would just be another 'tool' in my tool belt to maintain life-long success. Truth be told - I really don't have any objections to having less space to pack away food.
Spent the weekend with a friend, who did it on her own and isn't a fan of the surgery. She shares that with her method, she's a) successful (has lost and maintains the weight loss), and can still PIG OUT whenever she wants without getting sick, and because she still has her entire stomach. I had to think about that and ask myself - "do I still want to PIG OUT?" Or do I really want to remove those types of behaviors from my life completely? I've resolved that I want to remove them completely. I want to learn to be happy/satisfied/healthy without the need/desire to PIG OUT! After all - why do we pig out? I can't really answer that logically.
Blah, blah....so, here I am - reading/enjoying your posts, studying up, asking questions, etc. And, uh, that is all.
    Wishing all GREAT success!

Hey all- Dooter here. I haven't been on here in a while, but this thought has been plaguing me, and I need to get it out. -Let me preface this discussion by saying I am GLAD I had the sleeve surgery, and I would not change it for the world. I had NO complications and I lost 102 pounds in eight months, and for that I am grateful. I needed to do that quickly for my own sanity and health. HOWEVER- that said-
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT think for one teeny tiny minute that having surgery and dumping a bunch of weight is going to fix your head and the behavior that got you here. Not gonna happen. During the "honeymoon" period where you can sneeze off five pounds at a time and you're never hungry after your teaspoon of food, you can't imagine EVER returning to old feelings and desires. I am here to tell you that it sneaks back in a little at a time. A taste here, a taste there... "oh look. I've gained a pound. well, that was salty food, I'll just drink more Water tomorrow." HORSE HOCKEY!!!! That's where it starts. Your old head trips creep in. Hiding food. Eating junk now, figuring you'll just shape up "next week" or "tomorrow." Tomorrow never happens and you've gained 30 pounds back. Yes. With your itty bitty stomach, you have gained 30 pounds back. It can happen. Or worse, you gain it all back. That can happen too.
The reason I am writing this and being to harsh about it is that you are a person who is considering, or who has gone through a MAJOR life changing surgery. SO CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!! Be vigilant. come out of that honeymoon with your armor on! You WILL stop losing at one point and your body will begin to fight you as mine has. The diet my surgeon gave me no longer works at this point in the game, as my metabolism is stuck in cold molasses and it has taken a personal trainer/dietitian to get it moving again, and it is majorly hard work and painful and distasteful at times, but I have another 100 lbs to lose AFTER the 30 lb regain is gone.
Have somebody close to you hold you accountable for exercising and eating right. Splatter it all over Facebook if you have to (I did) so you'll have MANY people holding you accountable! Do what you have to do to reach your goal. Don't settle for less and don't eat crap. And don't think that surgery is the final solution. It's a tool that will get you halfway there. The rest is up to YOU and no one else. Thank you. That is all.

I just got my date! October 20th, I am already doing a liquid and Lean and Green diet. I have lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks. will be doing this until surgery. I hope that I can get down at least 10 more before surgery because I also have to have my gallbladder out as they found gall stones. she said that if she can't take it during surgery, she will do another surgery 3-4 months after to take it out. Really don't want to have to have 2 surgeries.

Well today was my EDG procedure. My doc said all went well. Scope time was all of 4 minutes. I read over the report later after I had a clearer head and it said they did do a biopsy but he said they almost always do. It also said I had a Hiatus Hernia. I was hoping that i did not have one of those. It seems folks have pain longer when they have to do VSG and Hernia repair if that will be required.
I have my surgical clearance on 9/25/14 and will find out then. I should also learn my surgical date then too and will hopefully start my 14 day liquid diet . I have it ordered and will pick up on 25th.
