  1. I am not the best speller but I had the plastic injections that begin with S many years ago. It didn't work for me but my friend had great success.
  2. I am so sorry to hear this. I need knees but refuse to do them. I'll see what happens when I am much lighter. My hips are good, I think but my back is gone. I totally agree about at least one more opinion. Arlene
  3. I have been married for almost 43 years and dated 4 1/2 before that. We have both been fat and thinner. He was very thin one time and it did go to his head. True love doesn't see size, love sees the person. Ann Landers/Dear Abbey, one of them, had a saying, am I better off with them or without them. You be the judge.
  4. I drink up to about 10-15 minutes before eating but wait the 30 minutes after. But ask your doctor because every doctor has their own thoughts.

I don't understand 2 bandages. My doctor has me lay down and raise my legs and the port like pops and then he goes in once. If I gave up up carbs, I would lose more weight but when I do without I eat more of those items. But everyone has to listen to their own doctor and dietitian. Any loss is better than a gain. Congratulations!!!
  6. I stay up very late at night and sleep very late. So last night's Night Line showed and talked about having a piece of mesh sewed to your tongue for 1 month to control your eating! It was gross. It cost $2000. and was being done by a plastic surgeon in CA. He said you lose 15-20 pounds by having just protein shakes. What happens after he takes the mesh off? You gain it back! of course. They showed 2 women and they were thrilled with their results. Comments from any of you! I just told my husband, he fell asleep and he couldn't believe people would pay for this. There is Slim Fast and other protein shakes and they don't cost $2000. People will do anything to make money from over weight suckers, I mean people. Have a great day everyone. Arlene
  7. I am very happy it went well. The best thing I did was the band. Just remember to follow your doctors rules not some else's.
  8. They all sound great! I love the seeing the ex. I don't have an ex but I have former friends that I would love to see me when I am at goal.
  9. Hello and welcome to the new journey. The gas pains are the worse and a heating pad helps a lot. Before you know it you will forget all the pain, I did. The band is the best thing that I did for me. I had mine 1 year ago and I have had no problems other things that are my fault, like eating too fast and not chewing enough. Those are no nos. Follow your doctor and dietitian's rules and you should be perfect. Good luck. Arlene
  10. Hi and welcome. Some people on this site have both. I only have the band and love it. I am 1 year with it. My health has completely changed for the better and I am older than you. Why doesn't your insurance cover WLS? Do you have any health issues? I had quite a few and my lung doctor was the one who told me, you are having this surgery. Well good luck with deciding. Does your medical center have support meetings? Mine does once a month and I just went Thursday and it was open forum and we all talked for 2 hours. About 15 new comers there, too.
  11. Congratulations on getting to solids. Look at your list and decide what are my must haves. When I first went on solids I ate a lot of jumbo lump crab, salmon, shrimp, meatballs and sweet and sour meatballs. Just try to get in all the protein and liquids you need each day. Good luck.
  12. I eat out a real lot also. I have salads with salmon, chicken or shrimp. Eat the protein first, they say. I also have grilled chicken at Italian restaurants with a little pasta or meatballs with tomato sauce. I do eat bread in restaurants but only the crust parts. I also have Chinese food. I have a luncheon special, eat half and bring the rest home. I do fine with eating out. My biggest miss is lobster. Since the band I can't chew it. I am from Boston, we live on lobster here. Good luck, enjoy yourself. Also look at the children's menu. I have a LapBand card explaining the band and asking the restaurants if I can order smaller portions.
  13. Good luck with your new journey. Best thing I have done for me in many years. I buy Body Fortress. The best price is Walmart. I use 8 ounces of FF milk, 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder, a little decaf instant coffee, a little peppermint extract and tons of ice and it becomes as thick and as good as a McDonald's shake. I have one for breakfast every day since March, 2012. I have a small Hamilton Beach blender that is also the drinking cup. The way I said the ingredients is the way I put them in the blender. I have small ice cube trays and use a whole tray of ice in each shake. Lots of luck. I just had my 1 year and never looked back.
  14. My dietitian told me to buy the Cliff protein bars. They have 20 grams of protein. I love the mint chocolate the best.
  15. Congratulations on getting the band and starting a new journey. Are you getting enough protein in at every meal? Protein makes you full longer. I am far from perfect and never thought of eating anything not on my post op list because I was afraid I would do damage. Today is a new day, forget yesterday. Maybe Monday call your dietitian and ask for help.
  16. Call your doctor and ask questions. Mine never stuck out. Could be just swelling, also. Good luck with your new journey. I just had my one year and love the band.
  17. Happy bandversary. I just had mine 2 weeks ago and I have no regrets either. I bought from Bariatric Advantage Biotin 5mg. It helps with hair loss and helps with finger nails. Your pictures are wonderful, thank you for sharing.
  18. Sorry I don;t live in your area. Ask if you can get a discount because you don;t have insurance. Offer cash for a discount. My WLS's office had their own psychologist in their office. Do area schools do this?
  19. In a few months you won't recall this. I don't remember from 1 year ago at all. I survived and most of us did too. I never cheated because I was afraid of what could go wrong. Not on this journey to see what could happen and go wrong. You will be fine.
  20. Sorry to hear you are having problems. When you have problems it is best to see your doctor ASAP. When I got the band I had my hernia repaired and never had a problem since. Good luck.
  21. My surgeon never questioned me about which surgery to have. He is thrilled with my 60% BMI gone in one year. Do what you feel is right for you not what the doctor wants you to have, Your body, not his/hers. A band can be removed, sleeve-stomach gone forever and by-pass, almost everyone I know has regained after 10 years and blame it on the surgery not their over eating. Also, you need to be comfortable with the doctor you choose.
