I congratulate you on your continued success of losing the weight and keeping it off! I'm wearing a size 18/20 and my goal is a size 10. How Lo f did it take you to reach your goal?

I have a couple of family members, on my husband's side....who do NOT acknowledge that I've lost over 80 lbs. Seriously??!!! LOL The ones I'm speaking I suspect hate it that I've gone from being the 'biggest woman in the room', to 'the smallest', or at least close to the smallest woman in the room. They could do the same thing, but one would have to give up several glasses of wine per night and the other would have to give up her several Dr. Peppers a day habit.
Congrats to you....keep up the good work!

It's been almost 3 years and my 'top 3' haven't changed.
    1) Waking up to a collarbone!
    2) Having a sales lady call me small
(Me, is she serious??!!! That's what I was thinking)
    3) Trying on a size 6 GAP jeans and realizing they were too big.
I got a size 4 and inside I was squealing like a four year old!!

slojo reacted to Crossfit4Me in When were you able to eat "normal" again?
Thanks for everyone's feedback. It has really helped calm me a lot. Everyone's goals are not the same and I don't expect that my goals will necessarily be in line exactly with everyone else's. For me, I just want to be able to live like what I feel is normal, which is being able to indulge from time to time without feeling guilty and to be able to eat a small portion and be satisfied. And not always be obsessing about food because I am hungry!! I have lost a lot of weight already on my own with diet and exercise (I'll be going into surgery Thursday at about 190 to 195lbs) but it is always a struggle as I always feel hungry and deprived. My biggest issue is Portion Control because it takes a lot for me to feel full and satisfied. I look forward to not feeling hungry all the time but want to get back to being able to choose what I want to eat to fuel my body for my active lifestyle. I hope this all makes sense as I feel like I'm rambling. I just keep thinking about how I may never be able to eat something I like again and it's kind of depressing.

i had surgery on 1/15/13. My highest BMI was 37, day of surgery was 33.6
Today is 8 weeks out and I have lost 30 lbs.
I have days where I worry I am not eating enough and days where I worry I am eating too much. LOL!
Only issue I have is trying to get in liquids and still have time to get food in, but the veterans tell me that will come with time. I have been craving something crunchy and salty, but it's different. In the past I would have gone to the grocery store to buy some chips or popcorn. Now, I think about it for a minute and then forget about it.
Love the support from this site!

Im 60. Had friends take me to hospital and then give me a ride home 1.5 days later. They carried my bag upstairs, picked up my dog from boarding and brought him home, hugged me and left -all at my request. I just do better on my own because i tend to cater to guests and would have done too much trying to make sure they were comfortable. I sincerely needed no help. I changed into pjs and a big warm robe and had a cup of tea! Ahhhhhhh... Peace and quiet. My house was clean, i had cleared out EVERY bit of food and drinks that i did not want to have in the house and had made sure anything i would need for the next few days was lined up and ready. I felt great and started outdoors walks the next day. Good luck.

Well, I'm off! Alarm went off promptly at 3am, but i was pretty much up at 2. I got through security without the complementary anal cavity search. Yay!
For those keeping track, I'm doing the same-day travel and surgery so I'll post as much about that part of the experience as possible. Part of having surgery same-day is that I have to wear compression socks on the way to Mexico to avoid clots. So, with a nod to Amytug, I share with you a little self-portrait of my own. Said in my best Austin powers villain voice... " I'm dead sexy!"

I think the fact that you are already aware that WLS is hard on relationships will help preserve your relationship. I was watching lifetime one night and there was a show on called Unfaithful, I think. Or maybe it was on OWN. Anyways, this show told the story of this girl who had gastric bypass. She gained a lot of confidence, and then started cheating on her husband. The show flashed a statistic that said 80% of all WLS patients who were married at the time if surgery, will get a divorce. It freaked me out. I decided then and there I would do everything to preserve my marriage. I know I am physically and emotionally changing. But my husband is, too. I expect him to be kind and supportive of everything I am going through, so I should absolutely be the same to him. I have seen so many friends lose weight, and all of a sudden think they are too good for their spouse. I just don't get that. This man loved me and made me feel beautiful at my heaviest. How could I ever outgrow him?!?!
So again..,I think the fact that you already place such a high importance on your relationship will help carry you through!

After all the posts of not losing fast enough, I started questioning my loss of almost 25 pounds in almost 8 weeks with a starting BMI of 35. So I did the math. Each pound represents 1.43% of my goal, times 25 pounds, means I've lost 35% of my excess weight! I like that!

well not really a beard but seems like since surgery, instead of the 1 or 2 wayward chin hairs , I now wake up to oddly placed 2 inch strands.... on my cheekbone... on my chin... just all over my face
there can be up to about 15 of them, none close to each other but all over... and how in hell do they grow so long overnight?
the hair on my head never grows this fast ( I WISH!)
I do know losing fat affected my hormones ( as evidenced by my period that now comes every 3 weeks like clockwork) but this is CRAZY!!!!

Dr Garcia in MX has stockings for my legs too and I got up and started walking right away, then I'd get nausea, a nurse would give me a shot, I'd sleep, then wake up and do it all over again for the first day. There were also doctors and nurses around all the time which I found comforting! I was really worried about blood clots, especially if they travel and cause a pulmonary embolism. That was probably my biggest fear.. and that they'd remove and sell a kidney on the black market!
