  1. I am 10 days out and I am so happy that all those fears r behind me! I am doing great and have not thrown up 1 time. Pain is gone! Bowels are moving and not diarhea. I eat every 3 hours about 5 or 7 teaspoons. I am down to 195. lost 11 lbs since surgery and I am not hungry! My diabetes is gone and my blood pressures are low. I believe I will be off that med next week. I went to the flea market today and walked a few miles. It is really nice out. Not to hot. All my doubts and fears are out the window. I should have done this sooner. I love that I feel full. I am eating full liquids, which includes creamed Soups. One can of Soup will be 4 meals! If you have any doubts, speak with your surgeon. The surgeon will explain your fears away. Look at all the pro's. The surgery is safer than getting your gall bladder out! NO REGRETS HERE! Susan

    How Painful Was The Surgery?

My surgery was August 2, and I am 1 week post op. I was lucky also, but i had a hiatel hernia repaired and I had pain in the middle of my chest to my left shoulder. Using the spirometer was "heck". I got up 2 hours after surgery to go pee and I decided to take a walk. and I made laps around the hall. Walking helps tremendously. I have no pain now. I was also on the pain pump for 24 hours and then they switched me to laratab elixer, which taste terrible and burns going down. I have taken it 3 times since I have been home. The most important thing is to walk and move around. take a shower. It really makes u feel better. The pain was not bad at all. Susan
  3. This was one of my first concerns. No bowel movement for 4 days after surgery. I used a fleets enema. nothing happened. Only air came out. The next morning I felt the urge and a small amount of black and choclate came out. dried blood and chocolate from the protein shakes. Mine contain fiber. Premier protein shakes from Costco and Sams club. Did u not have bowel movements after surgery? Susan

    6 Days Out

I am 6 days out and the pain is mostly gone. Yesterday I ate some cream of mushroom soup and It tasted so good. I ate more than I should have. About 10 teaspoons and the pain was almost unbearable. I have been eating 5 or 6 teaspoons tops. I couldnt help myself. It felt good and warm going in! lol I was miserable for at least an hour. But I did not throw up! I am having a bit of a problem with my bowel movements and the gas. Only a tablespoon full comes out and soft and chocolate, from my protein shakes. Will they ever be kind of normal again? I am afraid to go out because of the gas and What if its not gas. I have not got the two sorted out yet. Has anyone else had this? My jeans have elastic waist and they go up to where my surgery was and it is uncomfortable. I have been roling them down. I went to my family dr for my first checkup. My sugar was 89 with no medication and my blood pressure was low 80/60. So, we may have to cut out my Lotrel blood pressure medication. I go back in 1 week to see how that is doing. I did not get a b12 shot, but took blood and will call with results to see if they r needed yet. I think I am doing good. I am so blessed with no diabetes medication! So HAPPY! Take care all!

2 Weeks Post-Op And Refusing To Be A Mascot

I am 6 days out and I agree with every word u say. But for some it is true. but we all have today to be positive and make our lives better now! I read so many storys and not losing and eating anything you want. When you make the decission to have this surgery you know you can never eat as you did before or it will all come back. You have to make a concious decision and stick to it, for the rest of your life! My surgeon told us in his seminar. These proceedures are a temperary procedures. What we do with them is up to us. We must maintain our weight loss by not doing what put us here to begin with. That is why bariatric support team is so important. I see this by all of the post I read. Keep your appointments and there is going to be plateaus and ups and downs. you may not be losing pounds, but inches might be rolling off. measure yourself and see. Keep track.
  8. I am on my 4th day out. Doing good. Had first bowel movement this morning and very gassy and soft and not much thereLike maybe 2 tablespoons. Pain not bad. I have not taken any pain meds as of yet today or yesterday. I am able to eat 5 tesaspoons and a few sips of chrystal light. I have been sticking with my protein shakes, but for lunch today i made some cream of mushroom soup. It was good and I had 6 teaspoons and I was full. I have to get into a routine to take all my vitamins and split them up with my meals. I am 201 lbs today. My sugar is 89. I went home with no diabetes medications. I am very happy about that. My tummy is sore but bearable pain, My incisions sights are glued. 2 have bruised and a little distorted from swelling. The one above my belly button is about 2 inches and the rest about an inch. I am so relieved it is done and I am on my way to a healthier me and hopefully a much longer life. It is hard cooking meals for a family and wanting to eat what they are eating. But, I look around my families table and see what I would be missing if I did not do something to save myself. Hope all of you r doing great. Remember its time to take care of U!!!!!

    Any Sleeve Buddies From Michigan?

Hi, How r u doing? I just came home from my sleeve surgery. They found a hiatel hernia and repaired that also. I am doing well. Having most trouble with gas pressure. I am able to eat 5 teaspoons of liquids. I have not thrown up and doing quite well. I walked alot in the hospital and it helped with the gas pressure/pain. I am from Livonia, MI and had my surgery on Aug 2, 2012. I was in till saturday. I am sticking to the clear liquid diet as the cream Soups gave me a little pain. so I am not pushing it. Susan
  10. I have 5 days to go! My preop diet consist of 5 meal replacements of protein shakes and 1 meal of 1 protein serving 3 or 4 oz and 1 veg serving and 1 starch serving with 3 fat servings and 1 fruit. I have been sticking with just the protein shakes as I know I will not be eating food afterward and thought it best to get used to it. I have had to stop my multivitamin now. for 7 days prior to surgery. I will get my call Wednesday afternoon as to what time my surgery will be! Anxiously awaiting! Nervous and scared all rolled up!
  11. I am and have been where u r. I first thought about the surgery 3 years ago when I was having trouble controling my sugar. I had a brother who died at the age of 59 of a triple brainstem stroke. In 2003 he told me "any minute now!" That I would get diagnosed with diabetes and hi blood pressure. In 2008 I was diagnosed and his words echo in my mind. I went to my first seminar in early January of 2012. Michigan Bariatric Clinic in St Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia MI. I went through all the testing and psych evals and nutrition classes. Then I recieved a letter from my insurance that I had to go to a Blues preferred network, and St Mary Mercy is not. So, I received a list of where I coud go and I found Dr Krouse, from Beaumont Hospital Bariatric Center. I had to kind of start over with there program and they have a facililty just for bariatrics. Gym, pool, dieticians nutritionist and Dr's that you see on a regular on going basis. Also they sell the supplies needed for bariatric surgery. Chewable vitamins especially for bariatric needs. I have my date for surgery of Aug 2, 2012 and I am nervous and anxious and thoughts just like you. I am not a grandma yet and I worry if I die on the table. I take care of my Elderly father with dementia and 2 broken hips. I know this is the best decision for me as I am soon turning 58 and I want to live and be rid of my diabetes and other "weight issues. So, yes, I guess all our fears r normal and we will be much healthier afterwords! I look forward to wearing a pair of normal jeans without the elastic waste! :-) I cant wait! please keep in touch. I am 1 week in waiting!
  12. Hi, I am on 1 week of the liquid diet. I like the premier shakes. 30 grams protein. It is hard. U never think about how much your life is surrounded by food. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for your family. I have to be strong and you do, too. I also make my own shakes with the CY10sport 100% whey protein. It is the best I've tried so far. I mix with 8oz of skim milk in my ninja. It comes in vanilla and chocolate. The vanilla u can mix fruit in, like bananna or peaches or whatever fruit u like. Chrystal light is a saver too. Costco sells the premier drinks and the whey protein, They have the best prices too. I am excited and nervous and full of what if thoughts. please keep in touch. I would love to go through this journey with someone. Susan
  13. I am anxiously awaiting and woud love to talk to anyone about the surgery and what to expect right after. How much pain, and will I be throwing up right away?
  14. Hi, I am getting ready to go for my sleeve surgery Aug 2, 2012. I hope we can share each others story along the way. anxious in MI!
