    Help! My body is backsliding!

For most of us who are overweight or obese just carrying around our body is taxing on our joints; having said that it does sound like you are just doing too much. I agree start with walking which is good for your heart, brain, lungs and endurance. Remember that weight loss is 80% food and 20% exercise; don't think that exercise will break the bank on weight loss, you can gain weight while exercising!!

Unexpected Period during strict 2 week liquid diet.

Just a question are you sure you can be on the pill before surgery. Check with your surgeon but I am going to Mexico also and they said no birth control pills one month before.

    Pouch

I agree the cause of weight gain is not the size of your stomach, it is what you are eating and of course grazing could contribute to this.

    Dumping vs frothing

meat tenderizer? Oh my God!! Im in the same boat. I had a few licks of my fork with an egg and mayo mash and feel like something is stuck. Ughhhh. Did it ever go away? Yes it took like 2 days. I drank 1 teaspoon of meat tenderiser 2x and gobbled down some Papaya amino pills and it finally got better. Spit out the foamies don't swallow it makes it worse. It will pass so give it time.

How much cn you actually eat?

One great phrase to quote, "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should".
  6. OP I am so with you on this; I too am a food addict and have the disease of obesity. When I was speaking with my dietician the other day we discussed how the desire to eat what ever non nutritious food is in our brain; so our brain should not be controlling what we do. Our soul is the master of our body. When you say this phrase it really can change things. I am also using this mantra; "I am my soul, I control my brain, my brain does NOT control me". I am my soul I control my brain. She also mentioned a website; stop, breath, think. Give it a try, it seems to be helping me.
  7. Hi Natalie, I am just wondering about a sugar free Protein Drink that I have purchased. It has sucralose in it. Can I consume this after surgery? Would it cause dumping syndrome or is it just sugar itself? I am having the GB. thanks
  8. I am going for revision surgery with Dr Zavalza on September 4th. I believe I had picked him as he does revision surgeries and has trained under Dr Ponce De Leon. I bet either Dr would be great!
  9. So help me to understand "you made a huge mistake" because you now have a larger than expected scar? What's done is done.........move forward and reap all the wonderful benefits of weight loss surgery; when you reach your goal weight you will probably need plastic surgery anyway and the scar can be removed!!

    September Gastric Bypass Peeps

Hi Toasty, I am going for my revision to GB on September 4th. I have ordered all liquid calcium and B's. I also have purchased the Bariatric advantage multi with high AEDK which are chewable. I drink premier protein now but I think the first few weeks after surgery they will be too thick. I just purchased protein drinks from Ideal Protein. They come in all different flavours and have 18grams of protein per serving.

    September sleevers?

Just wanted to say that for all who have chosen Dr Fernando Garcia, excellent choice. He performed my lap band to VSG revision and it was a complication free surgery. You are all in good hands!! Best wishes! I am going for a revision, again, with a Bariatric Pal Dr Zavalza and am scheduled for Sept 4th. best wishes everyone!

    Cottage Cheese pancakes! Yum!

I wonder if you could substitute protein powder for the flour?
  13. It is soooo easy to gain weight back! If you are a carb holic you might want to consider the GB. I can easily eat a bag of potato chips, bread and yes pasta! I think the GB prevents eating of too many sugars and carbs to some degree you still do need to exercise willpower. Ok, now I haven't had my surgery yet, but, I have a question. How can one regain the weight lost after sleeve surgery? I can see where, after the band, gaining the weight back. After all, the stomach is still there. With sleeve surgery, about 85% of the stomach is removed, taken out, no longer there. The remaining stomach, if surgery was done correctly, cannot stretch back out to the size of the original stomach. It seems to me, IMHO, that in order to regain say 100 lbs, one would have to consume nothing but empty calories, and eat all day long. Can someone explain it to me? How, after sleeve surgery, the weight is regained? Am I missing something?

My prep from lap band to sleeve

Hello and welcome I too had the band lost some weight had issues eating anything healthy. 3 years ago I had the sleeve lost more weight but am having troubles keeping it off. I am now going to revise to the gastric bypass; I guess I should have had this surgery in the first place!! You are doing the right thing in tackling your weight issues and revise to another one. I think the band was a bad idea for most and you will read here that many revise. Best wishes to you

    It was too late...

I had surgery in Mexico and it was the best thing I could have done. Have surgery now when you are young and have your whole life ahead of you. Don't wait; after my Mom passed I had plastic surgery and again the best thing I could have done for myself. I am sure your father is with you now and would want you to be healthy and lead a long life; try bariatric pal surgeons I am going again for a revision and using Dr Zavalza. best wishes
  16. I have travelled to Mexico alone 3 times(twice to Tijuana and once to Monterrey) if you pick the right coordinating group you will be fine very safe. I am going again in September going with bariatric pal this time.
  17. So here it is, I have had the sleeve now for almost three years and have gained weight and not at the goal I wish to be at. What I want to know is what it is like with the switch part? Does it not enable you to eat certain foods? Do you eat certain foods? How much food do you eat? I find I still have good restriction with the sleeve however I can eat the foods that I shouldn't be. What about your surgeon? Did you have to pay for surgery and how much? I would be going to Mexico or the US but I would need to find a US surgeon first. Thanks for your responses Donna
  18. Thank you for posting your pics of the recovery condo. I am going for surgery on September 4th and it is nice to see that it is very well kept.

This may come across as narcissistic

When anyone has any kind of surgery what is nice is if your family friends would not only ask how you are but offer if you need anything; trip to the store, drop off magazines, a friendly visit and even a mani/pedi if you are up to it. I don't think there is any excuse especially if they are your true friends. Shouldn't have anything to do with what kind of surgery; ingrown toenail removal to gastric bypass; surgery is surgery.
  20. Hello mariecar, I am going for a revision to gastric bypass on September 4. I am in Windsor, Ontario I wish you the best, send me a message if you like before surgery. I don't know when I am starting my diet phase am just waiting on the information from the surgeon and nutritionist. Donna

Bypass or sleeve...will the answer come to me?

To the OP lipstick lady had the sleeve not the gastric bypass. I have the sleeve and am scheduling myself for the GB. The sleeve is great for restriction but you CAN eat anything, there is no malabsorption. I too wish I just had the GB in the first place maybe I would have been able to maintain my goal weight and not be struggling to stay there.

    Best Plastic Surgeons in Mexico?

So far I have used two one in Tijuana, Dr Salas, my scar is not well done at all and I had no after care, would not recommend. Second I used Dr Sauceda, very young and pleasant, however I think he does under promise and this ends up as under delivering. I now need a revision because he did not remove enough skin and more skin needs removal for a tighter look. Also his scars are a cross stitch type so you have a straight scar and crosses over it; not the nicest.
  23. Like others have said great question. I would have had the surgery at 25 I had the surgery at 48. Being obese has had a negative effect on my entire life. I often wonder what it would have been like if I was of a normal weight. I am glad that I had the opportunity now as I can live the rest of my life at a normal weight.

    The things people eat!

I will start by saying that I was shocked by your post. How is it that someone that has yet to have the surgery judge someone else. You should be ashamed of yourself. I truly hope that once YOU have your surgery you are 100% perfect in everyway for the entirety of your life! Oh but when in 6, 8, 12 months or how many years you sit down to eat something so foolish I hope you remember this post and how you couldn't imagine how a VSG'er could do such a thing!!!

Take off those regain glasses and turn it around!

Thank you so much for writing this article. I have spent the better part of the year in my regain glasses. It is high time that I took them off and put on my 'just for today" glasses. You are a wonderful writer and your inspiration, I hope, will help me to do things right!!
