    24 Hours Postop

Feeling about the same as you are. I had surgery on Wednesday and am still feeling bloated and "tight". I also had a hiatal hernia fixed so I'm pretty sore from that, especially when I feel the need to take a deep breath. This too shall pass, right? Hang in there, it'll get better!

July Bandsters In Need Of A Buddy

I was on an IV from the time I got there on Wednesday morning until shortly before I left on Thursday, so over 24 hours with an IV. Between that and the swelling in my belly, I was expecting it to hang around. Hopefully, I'll be down below what I came in at on Wednesday when I go to my post-op next week! My surgeon doesn't want anything by mouth until after the swallow test and modified upper GI to make sure everything is working the way it's supposed to. I've got my Water bottle filled now and am determined to empty it at least twice today.. It holds 20 oz, so that should be pretty doable.

    Banded July 24

I had surgery on the 25th and have the same problem. My issue is that I just can't drink that much! It took me 90 minutes to drink 12 oz. of chicken broth last night. Crazy! Told my husband I just wanted to guzzle a big glass of Water, but I know I CAN'T do that! If I take anything bigger then a sip, though, I get that full feeling and can't drink anymore. Even taking my meds in the morning fills me up! I know I'm only 2 days post-op and his will get better. I was up 6 pounds from the day of to the day after surgery from all the liquids they pumped into me via the IV, so I've got that, but all I want to do is drink a big glass of water and I can't.
  4. You can do this! It's hard! It was the longest 2 weeks of my life, but if I was able to do it, so can you. My dietician told me to use Slimfast-high Protein powder and to be honest, it was pretty good. Four shakes a day and all the non-caloric clear liquid I could drink. I found that if I blended the shakes with some ice in my Magic Bullet blender, they tasted like a milkshake and were pretty good! I also kept my Water bottle filled all the time and bought a bunch of those little mix-in Crystal Lite type of things that are individual servings. Lipton makes them too and they're pretty good. I was fortunate that my 14-year-old son decided that if I couldn't eat, it wouldn't be fair that I'd have to do the cooking, so he took it over. I was surprised with how well he did! The worst part of the day was dinner time and everyone would sit around the table and I'd sit on the couch with my Protein shake. It's only 2 weeks, though! Just go day by day and it will be over before you know it! I found that if I did my shakes right away in the morning, at lunch, dinner and then one before bed, it did a pretty good job of keeping me full and satisfied. If I got tired of the sweet, I would have a coffee mug of broth which helped to having something more savory tasting. I'm now on the post-op Clear liquids and am amazed with how little I'm eating! I need to get more liquid down, but I just can't do it because i get filled upso quickly! It's worth it! You can do this! I just told myself that 2 weeks out of my entire life was nothing!

July Bandsters In Need Of A Buddy

Thank you so much! Good to hear that you're feeling so much better being only a week before me! This morning seems to be better then yesterday so that's good! I've also had 3 c-sections, so I knew going in that the sooner I got up and moving, the sooner I'd be feeling better. My nurse was amazed with how soon I wanted to get up and around! I told my husband last night that all I want to do is gulp a big glass of Water down. I know I CAN'T do that, but I'm so thirsty and the little sips just aren't doing it for me! So... I just continue to take my little sips. I know I didn't make it to 6-8 cups of liquid yesterday. I tried, but just couldn't do it. It took me the duration of a movie to get through a coffee cup of chicken broth! Heck, just taking my meds this morning filled me up! Zantac for nausea, an antibiotic, my tylenol with codeine and a stool softener that you're supposed to take with lots of water. Doing my best to stay compliant, my new little tummy just isn't letting me do it. I know i have lots of water weight added on from the IV though. From my weigh-in when I went in for surgery on Wednesday to my weigh-in yesterday morning before my swallow test, I had gained 6 pounds. A little frustrating, but at least I know it's nothing what I did!
  6. I had to lose almost 35 pounds and thought it was going to be impossible. I ended up losing almost 50 by the time I had surgery!

July Bandsters In Need Of A Buddy

I just got banded yesterday (July 25). Feeling sore but I know it will get better. My surgeon also repaired a hiatal hernia while he was in there so it's hard to take a deep breath with my diaphragm hurting the way it is. Would also love a buddy!

    Day One Of Liquid Diet!

I'm on day 13! Surgery on Wednesday! It's hard, I've had some rough days and I've done lots of shopping (most of it the window variety!) I notice if I stay home I feel it more then if I'm out and about staying busy! The first few days were the hardest, but it's gotten easier and I've got 4 other people in this house holding me accountable. Dinnertime is rough though... I can't sit at the table and watch them eat, so I sit on the couch and sip my protein shake feeling a bit sorry for myself!

    Pre Op Diet Suggestions

I'm on day 11/14 of my diet. My surgeon is very strict with it. 4 protein shakes (my dietician actually told me to get Slimfast High Protein) a day and non-caloric liquid. Nothing else. The Slimfast shakes are actually pretty good, but after 11 days of it, it's getting awfully old. I keep telling myself it will be worth it in the end!
  10. Congratulations! I'm in MN, too, and can't wait until I can go to ValleyFair and ride the rides again with my kids! Maybe next summer? I met one of my goals this week, too. I wanted to go into a mass retailer and put on a pair of jeans that fit. I did it! I about cried. Of course, I put them back on the shelf and headed to the thrift store and found 3 pairs for the price of that one!

    Banned With Children.

I have a 5-year-old daughter who has been very sweet. She knows I'm going to go have surgery next week (NEXT WEEK!!) and has asked lots of questions. She also has two teenager brothers that are going to be home (14 &18) so they'll be a huge help with her. Unfortunately, my husband is only able to take off the day of and day after my surgery. He's wrapping up a job and preparing to start at a new company two weeks after I have surgery! Busy, busy!
  12. My dietician highly reccommended Slimfast High-Protein. My husband bought me a Magic Bullet blender for Mother's Day and I've been making great use out of it! I'm allowed 4 drinks a day and I mix it with 1 cup of skim milk (per directions) and then add one cup of ice and blend it up. Sometimes I'll throw some cold press coffee (no calories!) in with the chocolate or some cinnamon with the vanilla. They're actually pretty good and are wonderful on these super hot July days we've had here in Southern Minnesota! I'm not allowed anything else except non-caloric liquid so it's getting rather boring, but at least it's palatable!

    Newbie Intro

Hi Bibi! I am another newbie and haven't posted anything but my intro thread.. I should get to work on that! I started my pre-op diet last Wednesday, July 11 and have surgery a week from this coming Wednesday on the 25th. I had my preop today and I'm down a total of 39 pounds from my all time high weight. I was 383 when I started this whole process 6 months ago. We should stay in contact. My surgeon told me I had to get my BMI below 60 for him to do surgery. The goal for me to meet was 349 and, to be honest, I NEVER thought I'd get there. I'm there. I'm so excited! So excited to continue on this journey! Nice to "meet" you! ~Sarah
  14. Hello! I'm Sarah and just got the insurance approval a couple of weeks ago for surgery. I finished up all my apppoinments on June 5 and then waited and waited and waited for insurance approval. After jumping through some hoops and sending in even MORE paperwork, I FINALLY got approved! This past Wednesday (the 11th) I started my liquid diet and surgery is scheduled for July 25. Boy, am I sick of drinking my meals! I'm nervous, excited and scared.. runing the whole gambit of emotions. I started out this journey at my highest weight ever of 383 pounds. I had been thinking of having some sort of weight loss surger for years, but just wasn't ready yet. After an emotional couple of years, dealing with some depression due to a unexpected job loss and some other things, I decided at the end of 2011 that 2012 would be the year of change for me. It was the year I turned 40, my oldest graduated from high school, will be sending my youngest to kindergarten and my middle son to high school. My husband's father passed away and we're dealing with all that involved (his mother passed away years ago) and what's one more thing? Another deciding factor was watching my husband work off over 100 pounds through sheer determination. I tried, but just was not able to have the success he had which didn't help with the depression. Don't get me wrong, I'm so proud of him, but just a bit jealous. He's been totally supportive of me through-out this process and has watched me struggle and fight and is my biggest fan. I'm so blessed to have him for my husband! That all said, after much research, I have decided that Lap-Band is the procedure that will give me the tool I need to get to a healthy weight! So... Here I am 7 months after that decision. I'm down to 352.1 pounds and my lowest weight in probably 10 years! I need to lose (according to my surgeon) about 3 more pounds to get under the 60 BMI magic number. I have no doubt in my mind that I will be able to do that--especially if I stick to this blasted liquid diet! I'm 4 days into it and finally feeling like I'm hitting my stride. At least I'm not feeling my tummy grumble all the time anymore! Looking for support and others that have "been there, done that" or are at the the same point I'm at to commisserate and share with. I've found a couple of forums that look promising and trying to find out where I can settle in and call "home".
