  1. That is a scary thought. I'm in the going back to thin category so hopefully it won't lead to that. however, you are in therapy so thats the best start. is going with you? isn't it more likely that he was drawn to your personality than your "chubby"? I know personally, even when I was very thin, weight on men didn't bother me. IF they made me laugh and were fun to be around I loved it. however, none of those guys asked me out and we lost touch over the years. you were lucky enough to be asked out and I'm sure he'll love the fact that you're getting healty.
  2. if you can find out i'd love to know why. i haven't tried it yet but at least initially it seems like a good choice. Its 100% whey protein, which i understand is what we want. Just went shopping to stock-up a little and get shakes, Vitamins, etc. I was amazed at the differences in protein per drink raning from 5 g per can to 26 for a giant can at walmart. Think i'm going to order some of the unjury without flavor to put on my meals.
  3. I am low bmi (just under 35) and just starting this search. physical & seminar scheduled for next week. Family history of diabetes and high blood pressure (not here yet). Considering Mexico since going self-pay but that thought is scaring the hell out of me. 1. I hear alot of good things about doctors in Mexico -- but would like to hear who you didn't like and why? 2. Considering combining with a vacation - but how long before I can go back to work? I can't take off more than 2 weeks. I'm a secretary, so non-strenuous. How long did it take you to go back to work and did you have any problems? 3. I am a "high pre-diabetic", anything I can do to ensure I go up 10 points for the test? If so I could be approved for a local surgeon and insurance coverage. Someone suggested low-carb for several days before the test....thoughts? 4. Anybody that had complications with Mexico surgery - does US insurance ever cover complications (specifically Blue Cross/Blue Shield Carefirst/Maryland)? 5. Did anybody go to Mexico alone? My husband wouldn't be much of a support there so I'm serously considering leaving him home. 6. Does anybody have a picture of the scars left? I'm hoping what I'm envisioning is not as bad as reality. I know I have alot of questions but very anxious to get things going. Still sorting through the forum but working two jobs doesn't leave alot of free time. I get on here and research when I can.
  4. Thats why I started my Fat Bucket List....I want to be able to check off items as they are accomplished. Little things not directly related to the scale. I just keep adding to it on my blog. The high heels and dancing sounds great but I've always had a "heavy walk" even when I was a size 3 and I'm not sure how to change that. I would love to walk "lighter". And if I'm angry...oh, hell, watch out!
  5. here's the information if you decide to try it. i figure it's small and quick. Bariatric Advantage "Yes Whey" which is a 2.9 oz liquid shot (25 grams) of whey protein

    T Minus 5 Days

I am 11 days preop. thinking about hitting stores tonight. can't seem to get my "list" off my mind. Good luck.
  7. Have you tried a protein shot (liquid shot, not a needle?) I found it on a website and it has like 45 grams of protein and 100 calories. I asked previously if anybody had tried it and nobody answered but it seems like it might be helpful, especially in the beginning. If you can't find the post let me know and I'll try to locate the website i found.

How Many Of You Still Drink With Your Meals?

Have a question...i now understand why you cant eat during or right after meals, but why not before? Doesn't seem like it would have the same effect.
  9. Got a new one today....Mud Volleyball Charity Tournament July 2013.
  10. My surgery is in less than 2 weeks. I'm gonna have to go off of Omars statement at this time and hope for the best.
  11. In summer I love the pool and the ocean. When can i go swimming? Not necessarily exercise but a quick dip in the pool.

    Freshly Sleeved!

this was on another post about a week ago. Hope it helps...(sorry, can't get rid of highlighting when i was searching for it for you "I'm seeing SO many posts about the same exact thing lately and it seems like it takes half a dozen responses before someone touches on the easiest answer, one that will drastically improve quality of life for a newly sleeved person. Expect to be on a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) after surgery. If your surgeon does not bring this up, please be proactive and ask about being on one. If he/she doesn't prescribe one as a matter of course, generic over-the-counter PPIs (NOT antacids) are available and quite inexpensive. PPIs are Nexium, Prilosec and Protonix; antacids are Pepcid, Tums or Rolaids. Many, many people have posted that Prevacid does not help, despite falling into the PPI category. It didn't do anything for me. The feeling of hunger immediately post op? Most often it's acid and a PPI will control it. Burning heartburn or acid reflux post op? Get on a PPI, not an antacid. A really noisy new sleeve? Could be acid and a PPI will help. It could also just be a healing tummy, though, and is very common. Do you feel pain, pressure or like food is coming back up when you lie down? It's acid. Take a PPI, and don't eat immediately before you sleep. Sleep with your head inclined until the PPI controls the problem. Everyone is different. I was only in need of a PPI for 3-4 months post op, though in times of stress (and apparently, pregnancy), I feel the need for one short term. More common seems to be 6 months of use and some people need them for a year. If you're taking the time to research the sleeve, arm yourself with this information. Be prepared prior to surgery! I cannot express how much this one simple thing can affect your quality of life. I hope this post makes the need for one even more visible, and leads to fewer newly sleeved patients living in pain or discomfort, and then complaining about their sleeves! Healing is a tough process with the soreness and seriously restricted diet already and there is no need to complicate matters when there's an easy fix."
  13. I see posts for using melba toast and greek yogurt. Never had either. What is the difference between melba toast vs. crackers and greek yogurt vs. regular yogurt?

    Miss My Soda

Yes, this i know. However, I would get sick off plain water. I've been using Mio for just over a week now and I'm drinking all my required water. I just have the head craving for diet coke, despite knowing how bad it is. lol its my "cigarette" addiction. when will they put warnings on that label and make me drink it only outside lol still going to try very hard not to ever drink sodas again after surgery.

How Many Of You Still Drink With Your Meals?

    Miss My Soda

i know its a head additiction. i am going to try and quit. i've already noticed a craving for Water that diet coke cant handle. I saw a chiropractor once who told me about how bad the asperamine (sp?) is.....started out as ant poison. and that it actually attacks your nervous system. really need to kick the habit. i could use a patch similar to the one to quit smoking.
  17. Omar with Dr. Kelly's office told me I do not need a passport. Just my drivers license and birth certificate. I don't know if this is just because we're driving across the border instead of flying.

    Miss My Soda

I"ve heard about these tests. I guessignorance is bliss. I was well addicted before then. I dont smoke, dont drink, don't even fry my foods. (although i don't eat healty either). My one vice is soda. i've also heard pour soda on fresh pork chop and you'll never want to eat a pork chop again. AS far as the sleeve I was told the carbonation makes it unconfortable. Maybe make it flat before hand but I really don't like flat soda. I guess I'll just wait and see. Try my best. Great job with the weight loss!!

Anyone Going To Kelly On August 3Rd?

so close but i'm sure we'll talk afterwards
  21. I'm going it alone just wondering if anybody else is going to Kelly on 8/3.
  22. I had to move my surgery up 3 weeks and luckily was able to cancel my airfare. However, I'm in shock over the difference in prices, assuming because the date is closer but it's still 3 weeks out. Where did you find the lowest airfare? (going from DC area to san diego)

    Miss My Soda

Did you quit before or after surgery?
  24. Shape_Shifter

    Miss My Soda

Hoping I will quit entirely before surgery but it won't be a choice after. Making it a major change. I've already noticed, in 1 week, that I'm craving water (still flavored though) and soda is not satisfying me throughout the day. HOWEVER, still need that morning fizz

Week 16 (4 Months Post Op)

I just finished skimming through your entire blog. Gives me great hope. One of my "can't wait" is when my drivers license needs to change beause it reads too heavy (right now it's saying I'm 36 lbs lighter than I am). Keep it up.
