mark! got a reaction from MississippiQueen in Risks of Side Effects from VSG
I've always thought about this in two ways.
    1) I can stay morbidly obese. Develop Diabetes, congestive heart failure, kidney trouble, everything else that's run in my family and linked to diabetes, and die a slow, decaying, miserable painful death while living a life of "what might have beens" and false hopes, barely making it, barely surviving and barely able to move when I get older.
    2) I can take my 1 in 500 or whatever risk, and get my life to be on track with what I want it to be. After trying every diet known to man, and working my ass off in the gym, I know I have a choice. Live an adventurous fun crazy life, or die slowly.

mark! got a reaction from Butterthebean in Muscle Loss Sucks
Before I had surgery, I sat down with my Dr and explained my situation. I was completely worried about muscle loss. To keep my current hobby and to keep from having to pay for supplements and entry fees to meets I had to maintain my numbers on the platform or risk losing sponsors. From the get go we set my Protein numbers above 100g since the 3rd day post op, was restricted from deadlifting or squatting heavy for 8 weeks, was released for upper body training as tolerated 4 weeks post op. The biggest problem I've had is correcting form issues and leverages after losing the weight. So far I've added 120 pounds to my total (bench, dead lift, squat combined) and dropped 3 weight classes in the federation I compete in).
If you bust your ass and keep muscle retention in mind from the beginning it's easier to combat any atrophy you may have. But, it has to be a goal, instead of just weight loss.

You can always impolitely inform them that what they're doing is against the law, and you'll be contacting the medical commissioners office reference their inability to pull their heads out of their asses.
FWIW, I had all of my records mailed to me by numerous doctors, I didn't trust the nurses aids to be able to comprehend what I needed or what my surgeon needed, plus I don't like the "end of the day" attitude most doctors have, I wanted my stuff faxed over ASAP to not slow anything down.
Be steadfast with them, and stay on them about it. Regardless of their personal opinion, it's their job to send the records when properly requested, and it's against the law to not send them when requested properly. If they keep jacking around, I'd have a very stern talk with someone higher up there and lay things out plain and simple. Either they get their act together or the next person they'll be speaking to is a rep from the medical board (make sure to at least look up the name of a rep in your area for authenticity play).

For starters I would swap Protein and carb numbers. Aim for 100g protein and 30-50g carbs. Regardless, scientifically if you're working out and not getting enough protein you're not doing yourself any favors. Quality food sources in, quality energy out. It's true your body is I obviously different from everyone else here but research trial and error has proven a thing or two over time. I would start with adjusting protein and carb numbers. Just my .02.

mark! got a reaction from becogolfer in Kidney Stones-Only 1 Month Post-Op
I just got over a kidney stone last week, and the Dr. asked how much weight I'd lost. I told him, and he stated he's had a few people come through after massive weight loss in a short period of time that have had an issue with kidney stones. Said it was likely a Calcium kidney stone, the body having issues with managing the levels of calcium and Vitamin D. I looked up most of what he said, and there was research supporting his claim. I used to think all kidney stones dealt with lack of Water, but there are many other factors that come in to play.

I guess I'm obnoxious. I park my jacked up, loud, stinky, beast truck across 2 parking spots in the back of the lot. Then again, I don't go to the gym and eye everyone else and notice what they're doing, I'm usually too busy busting my ass.
    1st world problems.

I went shopping for more than a shirt here and there for the first time last week. I was constantly searching for 3xl and 2xl shirts, size 44-46 pants but everything I put on was too baggy. My wife finally told me to wait and she'll bring me things to try on. I ended up with some xl shirts, a few 2xl's and size 38 pants. I'd look at them before putting them on and see that tiny circle they made where my waist is supposed to go and suddenly feel defeated until I tried them on. I hate my mind sometimes, it's taking a long time to prove to myself that progress has been made too.

Fiddle, I'm with most on here. I haven't taken any thermogenics in a long time, but I was on the old ephedrine Lipo 6 a good while back and even though it did great things for me, the side effects started sucking after a while. If you want to get up and go from the thermo, just drink a cup of coffee, or take a caffeine pill (200mg) before working out, (it's close to a cup of coffee). There are a lot of filler junk ingredients in those pills people take, most of it will do more bad than good. Veins do look good though bro, I'm finally enjoying chest and bicep veins.
Just be careful. Keep pushing yourself to the brink, but listen to your body and know when to back off.

If I have to wait, SO DO YOU!!! I'm planning on waiting until I'm at least 6 months out before a cigar or pipe. I only smoke about once a month anyway, but don't want to chance it hindering my healing. I pass by my pipe stand every day, I miss em.

I think ultimately, that's the best choice to make. To me, this is a hobby. Yeah I can load up on anabolics and what not, but the risk of losing my life, or having major medical issues down the road just isn't worth it at all. Keep working hard and busting ass, you'll get what you deserve.

To anyone thinking Fiddle is being mean/whatever, would you take any advice from a Doctor who weighed 400 pounds and was telling you to lose weight? Same concept. I'm not going to take a recommended supplement for strength from some GNC kid who's calves are the size of my forearms.
Our local Vitamin shoppe is run by a local strength trainer and natty body builder. Dude is legit and cool as hell to talk to. GNC uses product targeting to push their crap. They have a list of things to recommend for each goal, and their based on a sales number, not what works. I wouldn't go to GNC to buy a bottle of Water, that's for damn sure.
If you're looking for supplements, google them, review them, research them, and then you'll likely find the best price online somewhere. But, beware of the 15 year olds reviewing products on bodybuilding.com. supplements are so sketchy these days since they don't have any regulations put on them until they kill someone, then they're taken off the market. I.E. ephedrine. A great product got dropped.
