  2. Just had to say - had to go to the urgent care today (It's a Saturday, and I couldn't wait until Monday for my primary doc) to get antibiotics for a massive sinus infection. It was kind of fun to explain, when the doctor was asking me about medications and pills, that I can no longer take "horse pills" due to the surgery. He laughed, and said "Well, that's fine. This comes in liquid, so we'll set you up with that. It'll be a rather larger dose, but it shouldn't give you problems." So, I now have 2 entire bottles of antibiotics in my fridge, and a little dosage syringe on the counter. I feel like I'm 5 again! Except the pharmacy never asked if I wanted one of those cool new flavors =P

    Friday Weigh-In!

    Missed yesterday ~ been massively sick since Wednesday with a sinus infection... HW: 290 (4/2012) SW: 262 (8/29/12) Last week: 199.5 CW: 197.5 Slow week, but I've been sick, and getting to a point now where I'd expect to see a stall. Still... 2 more gone! Can't believe I'm almost 65 pounds gone in under 4 months. And to boot - even on cold meds, my bp was 110/60 today - compared to usually 160/90+ presurgery, on meds!

    Happy Thanksgiving

    My main meal was just Protein and veg - (turkey, of course, and brussels sprouts). I had a spoonful each (like, regular table teaspoon) of mashed potatoes and stuffing (because they are my FAV) only after I finished my meal, just enough to get a taste. Worked really well! I was more than satisfied with everything, and I know what I ate wasn't bad at all. I was sad about skipping the eggnog, though... but I treated myself to diet cranberry juice instead. I think the key is PLAN AHEAD most of all. Measure out your portions, eat SLOW, and remember that moderation is also a great key.

    HW: 290 SW: 262 (8/29/12) Last Week: 223 CW: 221 Have definitely slowed a bit - only 4.5 pounds over the last two weeks. But, it's still coming off! 41 in 8 weeks since surgery, 69 total!
  11. I'll be 3 weeks post-op on Wednesday - I lost 16 pounds my first week, and NOTHING in the following 2 weeks. I'm following all my directions, and at my Phase 2 appt today my nutritionist was also a bit concerned that I stopped so completely so quickly. Something I brought up to her which she agreed I should speak to the NP/Dr. about - I've been on Metformin for almost 10 years now for PCOS. I've gone off and on at times, and every time it's the same - I come off it, and I IMMEDIATELY start putting weight on. Go back on it, and weight just drops off - no changing eating, exercise, or anything. My surgeon had me stop the metformin prior to surgery, and said I'd "never take it again". I'm wondering, has anyone else run into something like this? It just feels to me like when I've gone off it in the past... have an appt to meet with the NP at my next phase change... in two and a half weeks.

    Hot Chocolate

    Hey, can anyone recommend a good bari-friendly hot cocoa mix? I'm a SERIOUS cocoa fiend, and the cold weather is now here! The only sugar-free one in the store is Swiss Miss, and I'm not a fan. Anyone tried anything else?

    Fruit

    I was cleared for fruit at the puree stage - 2.5 weeks out of surgery. I've had apples, nectarines, plums, and cantelope so far. I try to have a little fruit every day - usually as an afternoon snack. I haven't had any problems so far - I'm 6 weeks out, on solids, eating skins and all.

    Help With The Hair-Do

    I have lots of hair to begin with, but each strand is so fine, I've been so worried about the possibility of losing it. It could have been just "seeing things", but I swore right after my surgery I started seeing a LOT of hair in the bathroom when shampooing and blow-drying, so I started taking Biotin- 5000mg/day, and it seems like less now (been on it maybe 4 weeks) And my nails - always very soft - have DEFINITELY gotten harder! I believe I've read somewhere that you don't really start to see WLS-related hair loss until a few months out - but I figured - taking the Biotin isn't going to hurt any! I'm getting in my recommended Protein every day as well, and I know that's a big factor too!

    Wow Moment!

    I love the feeling of fitting into clothes!!! I was my highest in a size 22 in April, and am down a full 25 since surgery 4.5 weeks ago - total of 53 pounds! I *just* went through my closet and drawers this weekend because I realized my jeans were getting big... for shits and giggles I took out a pair of my 18's to try on and maybe hang up as "Motivater" clothes - and they FIT! I then proceeded to go through my entire wardrobe - most of which I have not worn in over 2 years - AND ALMOST EVERYTHING FITS!! I can't even talk about how exciting it is to have a choice in what I wear again - not just "this is what fits". =D

    Pureéd Stage

    It was heaven to finally start this stage, after just Protein shakes! And then after a day or two I was kind of sick of it... but then I came to actually really enjoy it, lol. I know rules are protein first, and then veggies - but being that I very strictly measure and portion, and don't ever have a problem getting both in - I have started blending them together. It tastes SO much better to mix the flavors, and I find that the veggies keep the meat more moist - without having to add sauces and such. Anyone have any recipes they loved for this stage? I've been trying to fit my meals into what the family's having - like, when it's Spaghetti Night, I throw a chicken breast into the sauce for myself - it cooks so tender it just shreds, and there I have my protein while others eat Pasta. Or - last night was Stuffing, which we make an entire meal out of... saute mirepoix & mushrooms, ground beef, and bite-sized chunks of pork loin, then mix with Stovetop Stuffing and bake. I just kept back some of the sauteed veggies, and left a couple chunks of the pork loin about chop-size, and buried them in the middle of the stuffing. They cooked up SO moist, and then I just dug them out & blended with the veggies, and just a teeny bit of the stuffing. I used exactly what was for dinner that night, and it tasted pretty much the same - just much better suited to my new eating style! And it was just as good today for lunch

    I love Body Fortress! I blend with Water & ice though, no milk - my nutritionist doesn't want us to use milk. Even with water though, it's just like a milkshake!!

    I forgot about Friday Weigh-In! HW: 290 (4/2012) SW: 262 (8/29/12) Last Week: 241.5 CW: 238.5 3 pounds this week! 23.5 pound in 1 month since surgery! 51.5 total! It's slow, but it's coming off! I'm spending the afternoon switching over summer and winter clothes - and finding myself a new wardrobe in my own closet! I very conveniently pretty much skipped over an entire jeans size - which works out great, because I ripped out every pair I had in that size during weight gain - and I have 8 perfect pairs in my current size!
