I Had A Kick A*% Saturday! Literally...just Need To Vent & Get Encouragement.
You know I actually do think this was part of the reason I fell, but I couldn't really describe it to anyone. I also thought it was because, like the clothes, my sandals were a little big in the toe area.

Yes, I was taking Depo Lupron. I'm going to wait this week out and see what happens. I believe my surgeon said try to avoid hormones 3 months before and after, but if I had to, ask for Progestrin (sp?). Two months of spotting was exactly what lead me to find out I had fibroids. I pray that doesn't happen again. Like I said Aunt Flo has one week to get herself back in line or I'm going for the drugs!! LOL

I Had A Kick A*% Saturday! Literally...just Need To Vent & Get Encouragement.
If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any at all...Saturday was one of the worst days I've had in a while. It started well...pedicure, excited to go to a friend's bridal shower, but quickly went bad. I had my first post op meltdown yesterday as I was trying to get dressed to attend the bridal shower. See I've always prided myself on my appearance and clothing. I was a plus size fashionista of some sort. I had my ensemble planned out in my head and was excited since I hadn't really dressed up in a while. I'm a teacher who had her surgery right at the beginning of summer vacay and its been a lot of sweats, tshirts and elastic. Yesterday my clothes were too big....not just "oh there's a little extra room" too big, but falling off my shoulder too big. AND my bra was too big. You could see the cup collapsing under the clingy shirt. I tried 4 different bras and 2 shirts before I broke down. I had a full on temper tantrum. Of course I'm happy, but who wants to look a mess? I finally compromised with myself and headed out the door. Because of the meltdown I was running late for the shower. Then I was even later because the hall sat back from the street, behind another building and I drove past it back and forth for 15 minutes. Finally made it, go in and....I FALL DOWN the last 6 or so steps. I didn't kill myself, but I could feel my ankle throbbing. By the end of the shower I knew it was going to be bad. At home, the swelling and pain picked up. It's painful to walk and all I can think about is I won't be able to work out.... I'm only 6 weeks out and am losing at a ok rate, but when I work out, of course I'm pulling down some pretty damn good numbers. I already was going to see my reg doc on Monday so I'll have her take a look at it and pray for the best. THEN...guys this is your cue to leave. Ladies tmi coming. Then after 1.5 years my cycle starts! My cycle was purposely stopped in Jan 2011 because I have large fibroids. I was given hormone injections every 3 months, but had to stop them in preparation for surgery because of the risk of blood clots. So while I haven't been searching for my cycle I had been a little concerned because the last injection was Feb 2012. Well aunt flo showed right on up yesterday with a wrath....crimson tide! I'm feeling better about everything today. The swelling on the ankle is going down and I'm controlling the pain. Have an luncheon to attend today and I already tried on the dress lol. Can't wear the shoes I had picked out, but I'll be fine. I still am angry about the cycle though.... Thanks for "listening" to me fuss! *kisses*

What Did You Do To Celebrate Your Surgiversary?
No fear...all faith.

Michigan Sleevers
Heyyyyyy! Just found this little corner. My surgery date was 6/12/12 with Dr. Carlin at Henry Ford Hospital, main campus in Detroit. I have nothing but good things to say about my surgeon, but my nursing staff after surgery....unbelievably awesome!

What Did You Do To Celebrate Your Surgiversary?
I'm only 6 weeks post op, but a girl can plan ahead, right? I want a new tattoo with my surgery date and a mantra that got me through pre-op week, surgery day and recovery...and still now. I've been trying to think of an area that is a) not covered in stretch marks and won't morph as I continue to lose weight.

I Ate Pizza.........
You need to figure out why you ate the pizza and what you will do the next time because there will be a next time. Don't defeat the purpose of the sleeve....

When Did You Start Getting All Of Your Liquids In?
I think for a lot of people it is a constant struggle. About 3 weeks I was getting all my protein, but I still struggle with water at 6 weeks out. I think I've had 64oz of water maybe twice and I know one day it was 100+ degrees. (I know they say you can count shakes, popsicles, etc, but I don't.) Most days I get 40-50oz of pure water.

Diet After bariatric Surgery
Excellent post. My guidelines were very similiar, but not as detailed. I also learned something, I was taking my calcium and iron together at night. I'll move one to lunch now.

News Flash! Overeating Hurts! (Doh!)
Pineapple juice/tidbits help and so does Adolphs Meat Tenderizer. They'll get things moving up and out or down and out.

How Long?
After 1 week I felt fine, was driving, no pain meds. Week 2 I felt fantastic, so I thought, and resumed working out. Week 3-4, I felt fine but had serious fatigue. I needed naps, hard time making it through my "easy" workouts. I think I felt healed on the outside, but still needed some healing time for the inside. Now at week 5, I feel great. Getting hard workouts in, not tired.

Frustrated With The Foods I Can Eat....
Remember everyone's doctor and NUT have different food plans. I'm expected to be full diet at 6 weeks. It'll probably take me to 7, but I'm eating most of those things at 5 weeks.

Gastric Bypass And The Sleeve
My original choice was gastric bypass because I have so much weight to lose (SW pre-op 465). When I went to discuss my options with my surgeon he said he would normally agree, but wanted to show me something. He showed me my blood work and low iron levels. He then drew a diagram showing RNY. The part of your intestines that absorbs iron is a part that is lost in the rerouting. He said I would never naturally absorb iron again and for me that would create major problems. So...here I am. Lost 23 pre-op, surgery weight 442 (6/12), last weigh in at 4 weeks (7/10) was 414.

Teachers? Where Are The Teachers?
Hello everyone! I'm a high English teacher in Detroit and was sleeved June 12th. I missed the last week of school and my 9th graders badgered me to why I wouldn't be there. My admin team and close teacher friends know and I've seen them a couple times since. Very encouraging. We're having a high turnover of staff this year so it won't be such a big shock. The kids....well you teenagers are self absorbed so the may or may not notice in the fall lol.

Wondering At The Variety Of Drs Orders
I had a pre-op weight loss goal that didn't have to be reached but I did have to lose. I did liquid for one week pre-op. I also had Ekg, blood work, psych exam pre-op. No drain, went home after 3 days with scripts for Prevacid and Actigall. Was able to progress diet as I felt comfortable. So I went to mushies after about 1.5 weeks. After 4 weeks I feel comfortable to try most "healthy" foods.

Now I'm Sick
Adolphs Meat Tenderizer mixed with water will get food up and out or down and out quickly. Never had to use it, but was recommended by my NUT.

Post-Surgery Vitamins & Post-Surgery Medication
I crushed or opened all meds or supplements at first. I tried to swallow my smallest pill at 3 weeks, it went down fine. Since then I've added more pills increasing in size. Now I swallow everything but ursadoil (or whatever its called) because its huge. I try to divide the amount I swallow, like I don't try to swallow five pills in the morning. Two in the morning, two in afternoon, etc.

Being "selfish"
Yesterday I went to a funeral and because I knew it would be an all day, knock out, drag down affair (person died young and tragically) I packed food for at least a snack and a meal. I had a small pack of nuts and a turkey/cheese Lunchables. Like many of us, I also have a schedule I have to keep to get in my fluids and Protein so I pulled out my pack of nuts on the way to the cemetery and starting eating. Everyone wanted some. I already felt bad when I didn't offer, but I was keeping my goals in mind. So I had to give some up. Same thing with the Lunchables... Of course my protein was a bit lower than what I was shooting for at the end of the day. Mind you, these are people who know I've had surgery, but they have no concept of protein counts, scheduling, etc. I don't think anyone does unless they experience WLS. How do I tell people no without #1 telling my business if they don't know or #2 not seeming selfish?

Pill Question- Darn- Can't Find In Search!
Me too. I hated those pellets! It was the first pill I worked on swallowing.

Ugh, What Now
My NUT says we may have issues brushing our teeth because of the mint. She explained why and of course i don't remember except bits lol. But think of how you eat mint for digestion. So your stomach is gurgling, but nothings in there or something like that. I remembered the solution! Which is switch to cinnamon.

Just Started Mushies And I Have ?
When I get that feeling its from eating too quickly or not chewing well. I've been focusing on eating more slowly this past week and have not had that feeling.
-
Pineapple Juice
My NUT does say to water them down, but she highly recommends pineapple juice or tidbits when eating meat. Something about their make up helps tenderize meat....think pineapples on a ham.... So I drink about 2oz of orange pineapple in the morn and in the eve with my meds that have to be crushed.

What Calcium Are You Taking?
I use the chews, Target brand. I've only had vanilla. They're definitely bearable.

What Did I Do To Myself ?
I've slimed once last week. I'm almost 4 weeks out and while gross, I can tell you I INSTANTLY felt better once it came up. I drank a glass of Water and had not waited long enough before eating and the first few bites were too fast. My NUT recommends Adolphs meat tenderizer as an emergency kit type thing. She says mix a little in water and drink if you feel food is stuck. It's supposed to help it go down...or come up lol quickly.
