  1. I was sleeved on October 22 of this year. While lying in bed the night before my surgery, my husband tells me that he wants to leave me. I am devastated. I am already stressing about my surgery and he brings this up. My husband never complained about my weight as I was heavy when we married. Everyone has told me that he was just filling insecure about me losing weight after surgery. He left me on Tuesday, November 27. I am speechless and heartbroken. We would have been married 21 years on December 28. Our upcoming anniversary makes matters even worse. I feel betrayed and afraid. I need all the prayers that I can get. I only have a couple of friends that I can cry to but neither of them attend church or have much experience with prayer and faith. I love my husband and I want him to return to me. I know that is has only been a few days but he has made some pretty drastic decisions this week and told me today that he will not come back and does not want to be married any more. The only way that he is going to return is for God to intervene. The thought of being alone and starting a life without him terrifies me. I need for all of my christian brothers and sisters to stand in faith with me. I need strength through all of this as I am not eating or taking my vitamins or supplements so I am pretty drained both physically and mentally.
  2. I was sleeved on October 22, 2012 and I have lost almost 100 lbs. I had an emergency hernia surgery on March 3 so I dropped 30 lbs. in 3 weeks due to the surgery and not eating. However, I have not gained or lost any weight in the last 3-4 weeks. I have returned to work and returned to eating and exercising. I still have another 50 lbs. to lose. My doctor didn't give me a goal weight. He just said pick what fits me best. My clothes are falling off but I am too cheap to buy new ones right now since I have more to lose. I really want to be under 200 lbs. by my 43rd birthday on July 30 . . .
  3. I'm not sure if I am where I should be. Highest weight 349 Date of surgery 340 - I only did 1 week on the pre-op diet Today 379. I have been around 379-380 for 3 weeks now. : (

    The defining moment you knew

Been there, done that. My last try was a roller coaster at Islands of Adventure in Florida. Even the fat seat wasn't quite big enough for me.
  5. I was sleeved on October 22. Starting weight was 349. I am now at 279. A total weight loss of 70 lbs.

    My Life Is Falling Apart

Thank you all for the prayers and encouragement. Thanks Gary for sharing your personal experience. I pray that God will give him a change of heart. Yesterday he went from telling me that he wouldn't file for divorce for 2 years to texting me this morning and telling me that he is filing in 6 months. Every day is getting more unbearable. I don't know how much more hurt my broken heart can take. He told me that we could go to christian counseling. We went 1 time, and he left that night. He keeps telling me that he has been wanting to leave for months. He wants to live the single life at 41 years old. I just pray that he regrets it before it is too late.
  7. Is there anyone on here in Kentucky that has either been sleeved or going through the process? I am in central Kentucky and it would be nice to have someone to chat with or text when I have questions or struggles. I know several people that have had gastric bypass and lap band but none that have been sleeved.
  8. After a 2 night hospital stay, I came home and gave myself a blood thinner shot for 14 days. I walked 5-10 minutes several times a day. Even in the hospital I was walking laps around the nurses station. Every doctor is different but I had a ct scan last week because I was having a pain in my stomach which turned out to be a pinched nerve or a pulled muscle but the ct scan showed no leaks. My surgery was October 22. Just walk a lot to prevent blood clots.
  9. I was sleeved on October 22. 2 weeks ago today. As of this morning, I have lost 27 lbs. Just curious if this is average or not. How is everyone else doing? I do have a pain that began last Tuesday to the right of my belly button in my waistline. My surgeon thinks that I have a pulled muscle. Maybe so since I can't sit still. I have not yet returned to work as I cannot sit upright in my office chair all day but I haven't found a food yet that I cannot tolerate just maybe not very much of it. I am working my arms with the shake weight that I purchased last week and I am walking almost everyday. Tell me how you are doing, I want to hear.
  10. I just got home and had to stay 2 nights. I am still in a lot of pain but I am walking as much as I can. All of the staff said that they had never seen someone walk as much as I did. I just want to do everything right, no complicatins, no blood clots and no pneumonia.
  11. So the last 6 months have flown by and the doctor had a last minute surgery appt available so my surgery was scheduled last week for this coming Monday. OMG, 4 Days Away! So, my husband is now stressing about the fact that I am going through with it and begging me not to. He said we should just diet together. I weigh 350 lbs. and he is 260 lbs. and a lot of muscle so I have much more to lose than him. He is making me question my decision so I keep reading blogs, websites, articles and the info that my doctors office gave me. I have so many questions that I feel like I need to call someone that has been there and experienced it. Please keep in mind that I had the nissen surgery so my surgeon has to undo that. I am a picky eater meaning I don't do any seafood and very few veggies and fruits and I never really eat because I am hungry but because I crave things, mostly sugar. I only opted for the sleeve because with the nissen I am not allowed to do the LapBand. I hope that some of you long time sleevers can help here and give me some input too! Here are the questions that I have: 1. If the hunger hormone is removed do you truly never experience hunger ever? 2. Do you still have cravings? 3. At what point can you stop the Protein shakes and shots or is this a lifetime requirement? 4. At what point can you stop ALL the Vitamins that the doctor requires and switch to a good daily Multivitamin? 5. How long after surgery is it before most people can eat regular foods? 6. I was told that with this surgery, eventually, I could eat anything that I want within moderation. Is this true? I want to know that someday I can eat a burger or a piece of pizza if I crave it. I don't have to finish it , but will I be able to eat these things? I am not a big soda drinker but will I be able to someday tolerate a few sips of Big Red if I want it?
  12. I have actually been doing 5 meal replacement shakes a day since last Thursday and nothing else allowed except water. The first couple of days I had cramping and diarrhea but it finally subsided. I think that it is the shock of the high protein and vitatmins to your body.
  13. Thank you all for your very informative comments. Please understand that I definitely do not want to return to my old habits but I don't want to have to rely on protein shakes and vitamins for the rest of my life to survive. I just needed to get some clarification to put my mind at ease before going through with the surgery.

    I'm Here!

    Prayers!
  16. My doctor just scheduled my surgery last minute on October 11 for October 22 so I don't have to do the full 2 week/5 shakes a day preop diet. However, I can't handle the shakes. I gag and almost vomit every time I just think about drinking them. My doctor requires you to purchase his meal replacement powder and his vitamins. I am supposed to drink 5 a day and nothing else but I can't. I have to do this until Sunday. The brand is bariatric advantage. I am normally a very healthy person but I have stomach cramps, diarrhea and severe nausea ( sometimes vomitting) with this. I did have the nissen fundiplication done 6 years ago and he tells me that with that having to be taken down and a BMI of over 50, I need to do this. If I am throwing up, I don't see how the vitamins or the meal replacement shakes are helping. Any solutions?

    Destiny Or Luck!

So, it has been a while since I last blogged about anything. Between work and life I have just been busy. However, a recent turn of events has brought me back. I finished my 6 month insurance required diet 3 weeks ago. 1 1/2 weeks ago my insurance approved my surgery. My last test was a stress test yesterday. My WL doctor didn't even have those results (which were all fine) and they called me today and asked me to come in tomorrow morning for my final consult with the doctor. They also told me that he has an opening on October 22. WOW! Talk about fast!! When I first started this process back in March I dreaded having the wait the 6 months which actually went back pretty quickly when you are working and life is just happening. I never dreamed that the insurance would approve me in less than 2 weeks. They usually require a 2 week preop, they said don't worry about it just start it tomorrow. So, I haven't really stressed or worried about the surgery this entire time because I was trying to get everything done that needed to get done to satisfy the insurance company. BUT NOW! I don't have time to worry. Going to eat in a few with my husband and daughter at Texas Roadhouse for my LAST SUPPER and I'm not even hungry! My downfall is sugar but don't really want that either right now. Let's back up to yesterday. I am sure that all women know what the "paper vest" is. If not, I will explain. The paper vest is disposable clothing. This vest would only cover up a person weighing under 100 lbs. Maybe less. Picture if you will, a 350 lb. woman being given this paper vest to put on on the cardiologist office. It covered nothing. I tried to adjust it only to rip out the side like SHE HULK. They said no problem, we can fix it with tape. HA They hooked up the electrodes and then proceeded to take disposable hand towels and tape and cover my breasts which had all ready been seen by everyone in the room (oh yeah, I had to walk down the hallway wearing the ripped vest to the treadmill room). I also had to walk, jog and run on the treadmill with the paper vest on. Boobs flopping everywhere. All I can say is that is why I am having this surgery. In the future, anytime I go to any doctor for any reason, I am going to request a paper vest because I should finally be able to cover this stuff up with one eventually.

    Destiny Or Luck!

I did go this morning for my final consult. Although, I wasn't told that I would be there 4 hours so my husband was pretty angry. Anyway, my surgery is now scheduled for October 22. I came home with the meal replacment powder and all the vitamins that my doctor requires. I can see that it is going to be a struggle to drink 5 shakes a day. I have been drinking on my first one for over an hour. : (

    First Timer Here

I am in the insurance required waiting stages of surgery. My insurance requires 6 months of a doctor supervised weight loss program and this is my 4th month. I have an endoscopy schedule on 7/31 and all other testing and paperwork have been completed with the exception of an EKG. I will be 42 in 2 weeks and have been overweight most of my life. I am tired of being tired. I have no major medical problems so speak of just the usual arthritis and aching back. My arch nemesis is SUGAR. I can pass up anything except sweets. A few weeks ago I created a bucket list of things that I want to be able to do once I lose weight. I am sure that most of you can relate. 1. Cross my legs 2. Ride any ride at an amusement park 3. Run 1 mile (nonstop) 4. Parasail 5. Ride a motorcycle for hours without being in pain 6. Fit on a motorcycle with my husband 7. Touch my toes 8. Tuck my shirt in and not be embarrassed 9. Shop and wear clothes from Victorias Secret 10. Zipline 11. Step on a scale and not be embarrassed 12. Wear a bathing suit with confidence 13. Tube on a river (I will have to explain this one) This obviously doesn't cover it all but these are some things that have been weighing on my mind lately. I realized last week while vacationing in the Smokey Mountains, that anyone weighing 340 pounds has no business getting on a tube in the river rapids because there are so many shallow areas where your ass literally hits rock bottom then you have to roll out of the tube, fall flat on your face and pick yourself up and walk down to a deeper end just the start all over again. My daughter says that I am taking the easy way out by having surgery. My husband says that I am trying to kill myself and need to find another way to lose weight besides surgery. I need to lose at least 150 lbs. before I do begin to develop life threatening health issues.

    Kentucky welcome

Hello, Melissa here in Elizabethtown KY. Just finished my 6 month waiting period 2 weeks ago and got the insurance approval letter yesterday. Boy was that fast. Dr. Oldham will be doing my surgery at Baptist East since the hospital in Elizabethtown only allows lapbands. All I am waiting on is my cardiac clearance letter which I will get Oct 9 after my stress test. Fingers crossed, I should have surgery by November.

  23. I just finished my 6 month required diet and my doctor did the same. Her scales don't go over 300 so she can't weigh me. She asks me if I have lost anything. I have actually gained about 10 lbs. I meet with the surgeon next week.
