  1. I was sleeved on October 22, 2012 and I have lost almost 100 lbs. I had an emergency hernia surgery on March 3 so I dropped 30 lbs. in 3 weeks due to the surgery and not eating. However, I have not gained or lost any weight in the last 3-4 weeks. I have returned to work and returned to eating and exercising. I still have another 50 lbs. to lose. My doctor didn't give me a goal weight. He just said pick what fits me best. My clothes are falling off but I am too cheap to buy new ones right now since I have more to lose. I really want to be under 200 lbs. by my 43rd birthday on July 30 . . .

  2. Thank you all for the prayers and encouragement. Thanks Gary for sharing your personal experience. I pray that God will give him a change of heart. Yesterday he went from telling me that he wouldn't file for divorce for 2 years to texting me this morning and telling me that he is filing in 6 months. Every day is getting more unbearable. I don't know how much more hurt my broken heart can take. He told me that we could go to christian counseling. We went 1 time, and he left that night. He keeps telling me that he has been wanting to leave for months. He wants to live the single life at 41 years old. I just pray that he regrets it before it is too late.

  3. I was sleeved on October 22 of this year. While lying in bed the night before my surgery, my husband tells me that he wants to leave me. I am devastated. I am already stressing about my surgery and he brings this up. My husband never complained about my weight as I was heavy when we married. Everyone has told me that he was just filling insecure about me losing weight after surgery. He left me on Tuesday, November 27. I am speechless and heartbroken. We would have been married 21 years on December 28.

Our upcoming anniversary makes matters even worse. I feel betrayed and afraid. I need all the prayers that I can get. I only have a couple of friends that I can cry to but neither of them attend church or have much experience with prayer and faith. I love my husband and I want him to return to me. I know that is has only been a few days but he has made some pretty drastic decisions this week and told me today that he will not come back and does not want to be married any more. The only way that he is going to return is for God to intervene. The thought of being alone and starting a life without him terrifies me. I need for all of my christian brothers and sisters to stand in faith with me. I need strength through all of this as I am not eating or taking my Vitamins or supplements so I am pretty drained both physically and mentally.

  4. After a 2 night hospital stay, I came home and gave myself a blood thinner shot for 14 days. I walked 5-10 minutes several times a day. Even in the hospital I was walking laps around the nurses station. Every doctor is different but I had a ct scan last week because I was having a pain in my stomach which turned out to be a pinched nerve or a pulled muscle but the ct scan showed no leaks. My surgery was October 22. Just walk a lot to prevent blood clots.

  5. I was sleeved on October 22. 2 weeks ago today. As of this morning, I have lost 27 lbs. Just curious if this is average or not. How is everyone else doing? I do have a pain that began last Tuesday to the right of my belly button in my waistline. My surgeon thinks that I have a pulled muscle. Maybe so since I can't sit still. I have not yet returned to work as I cannot sit upright in my office chair all day but I haven't found a food yet that I cannot tolerate just maybe not very much of it. I am working my arms with the shake weight that I purchased last week and I am walking almost everyday. Tell me how you are doing, I want to hear.

  6. Finished. Started clears today after the leak detection test no leaks yay!!!!! Waiting to be transfered bariatric wing of hosptal spent the day and night in icu due to bmi levels.

I just got home and had to stay 2 nights. I am still in a lot of pain but I am walking as much as I can. All of the staff said that they had never seen someone walk as much as I did. I just want to do everything right, no complicatins, no blood clots and no pneumonia.

  7. Like many on here, I have been working toward the VSG for 6 months. I thought I was completely prepared. Only 2 days to go now (surgery date 10/23) & I'm beginning to freak out a little. My husband is my cheerleader & keeps me motivated

((Hugs)). We've got this! I can't wait to see you on the losers bench.

Good luck to you I will keep you in my prayers!

  8. Thank you all for your very informative comments. Please understand that I definitely do not want to return to my old habits but I don't want to have to rely on Protein Shakes and Vitamins for the rest of my life to survive. I just needed to get some clarification to put my mind at ease before going through with the surgery.

  9. So the last 6 months have flown by and the doctor had a last minute surgery appt available so my surgery was scheduled last week for this coming Monday. OMG, 4 Days Away! So, my husband is now stressing about the fact that I am going through with it and begging me not to. He said we should just diet together. I weigh 350 lbs. and he is 260 lbs. and a lot of muscle so I have much more to lose than him. He is making me question my decision so I keep reading blogs, websites, articles and the info that my doctors office gave me. I have so many questions that I feel like I need to call someone that has been there and experienced it. Please keep in mind that I had the nissen surgery so my surgeon has to undo that. I am a picky eater meaning I don't do any seafood and very few veggies and fruits and I never really eat because I am hungry but because I crave things, mostly sugar. I only opted for the sleeve because with the nissen I am not allowed to do the LapBand. I hope that some of you long time sleevers can help here and give me some input too!

Here are the questions that I have:

    1. If the hunger hormone is removed do you truly never experience hunger ever?

    2. Do you still have cravings?

    3. At what point can you stop the Protein shakes and shots or is this a lifetime requirement?

    4. At what point can you stop ALL the Vitamins that the doctor requires and switch to a good daily Multivitamin?

    5. How long after surgery is it before most people can eat regular foods?

    6. I was told that with this surgery, eventually, I could eat anything that I want within moderation. Is this true?

I want to know that someday I can eat a burger or a piece of pizza if I crave it. I don't have to finish it , but will I be able to eat these things? I am not a big soda drinker but will I be able to someday tolerate a few sips of Big Red if I want it?

  10. i am from frankfort as well. would be more than happy to buddy up and have that extra support with local guys and gals..

i have a pulmonary test 7/24 and then i await my actual surgery date.. sooo excited. i will be having it done at central baptist in lexington with dr weiss...

So, have you had your surgery yet? Dr. Oldham is performing mine on Monday, October 22.

  11. My doctor just scheduled my surgery last minute on October 11 for October 22 so I don't have to do the full 2 week/5 shakes a day preop diet. However, I can't handle the shakes. I gag and almost vomit every time I just think about drinking them. My doctor requires you to purchase his Meal Replacement powder and his Vitamins. I am supposed to drink 5 a day and nothing else but I can't. I have to do this until Sunday. The brand is Bariatric Advantage. I am normally a very healthy person but I have stomach cramps, diarrhea and severe nausea ( sometimes vomitting) with this. I did have the nissen fundiplication done 6 years ago and he tells me that with that having to be taken down and a BMI of over 50, I need to do this. If I am throwing up, I don't see how the vitamins or the meal replacement shakes are helping. Any solutions?

  12. Hello, Melissa here in Elizabethtown KY. Just finished my 6 month waiting period 2 weeks ago and got the insurance approval letter yesterday. Boy was that fast. Dr. Oldham will be doing my surgery at Baptist East since the hospital in Elizabethtown only allows lapbands. All I am waiting on is my cardiac clearance letter which I will get Oct 9 after my stress test. Fingers crossed, I should have surgery by November.

  13. I just completed my 6 month insurance required waiting period and everything has been submitted to my insurance for approval. I will be getting my cardiac clearance letter next week. After my insurance approves, all that is left for me to do is go to my doctor and select a surgery date. If everything goes well, I should have surgery by November. I am not nervous because I want this so bad. I NEED to lose about 150 lbs. I am overall pretty healthy with the exception of arthritis in both knees. I am a very picky eater. I do not eat any type of seafood. I eat very few vegetables and fruits. I eat meat but I can live without it. My biggest problem is SUGAR. From what I understand about this surgery, I will eventually be able to eat pretty much anything but in very small amounts and to make wiser food choices altogether. I want to be that person that someday can have a bite of pie and be satisfied rather than eating 2 or 3 pieces. Is there anyone out there with a eating history like mine that has had this surgery and been successful? How long after surgery (days, weeks, months, years) is a person able to eat normal foods? Any help would be appreciated.

  14. My name is Melissa and I am 42 years old. I have been married for almost 21 years and have a 19 year old daughter. I have been overweight the majority of my life, like everyone else, losing some, then gaining back more. I'm not looking to be a supermodel, I just want to be able to wear clothes that don't come from the plus size section. I have no major health issues to speak of but my weight is taking its toll on my knees and back. I hope to have surgery before the holidays so that I can start working on my skinny bucket list next summer!

  15. Going through that myself - I'm almost done with the second month of my 6 month supervised diet. Also, very annoyed at it being needed - Like I woke up yesterday fat... really? ive been dieting in one way or another for 20 years... and I'm 32.

I didn't gain but didn't lose at my first appointment - she wasnt mad but she said "oh well, at least you didn't gain." lol. I want to get serious but I'm also scared of "what if i lose too much and get below 40 BMI?" I'm about a 41.5 with no co-morbs and don't want to get too low and get denied...

I know exactly what your talking about. They tell us to lose during the supervised diet but not to lose too much. What is too much? I wouldn't even be on the website if I could do it on my own right?
