  1. I did a lot of research trying to decide between bypass and sleeve.

Some things influenced me. I never knew anyone else in person who had the sleeve. I knew several people who had bypass. One of those people died. The others gained all their weight back. Also I remember reading how you can stretch your bypass pouch out again but you cannot stretch your sleeve out. Yes it will grow some in size over the years but it will never go back to its original size. I'm four years out and can only eat 3-4 oz of dense Protein. I know you can regain on the sleeve if you eat the wrong foods but once you get back on the wagon your tool is still in tact. For example, I gained 30 of the 102 lbs back I lost. Started eating right again about two months ago and I've only 10lbs left to lose of 30 I gained.

Bypass seemed more intrusive to me. They actually reroute your plumbing. I didn't want to deal with malabsorption. I was self pay and when I went to my surgeon for our first meeting he asked me which surgery did I think was best for me and I told him the sleeve. And he agreed.

Those things are the things that sealed the deal for me on sleeve vs bypass.

  2. 1.)I am single mom. My son is 9 and he was diagnosed with autism in August 2014 and epilepsy this past December.

2.) I am and have been a probation and parole officer for 14 years

    3) I met my boyfriend on a zombie game app you can download from the App Store.

    4) I have 2 cats

    5) I haven't flown since 1998 but am flying up to Wisconsin this month to see my boyfriend. I am annoyed with all the rules about liquid tsa has. I'm a girl, and a lot of my essentials are liquids.

    6) I have always hated to cook, and I still do hate it but I do anyway. (I really think it's the preparing, cooking, and cleanup that I have to do myself)

    8) I want to marry Dean Winchester and have his Babies

  3. For the amount of exercise you are doing you may not be getting enough calories in, causing slow weight loss. Maybe try backing down from the 7 miles a day until you can consume more. Maybe do two or three miles

And kudos to you for being able to do that much so soon! I was very weak until about month two. I was getting dizzy and light headed trying to jump into a lot of exercise that soon.

  4. I had to quit smoking a month before surgery, my surgeons requirement. It was the hardest thing I've ever done. I stayed smoke free for two years post op. Unfortunately I started smoking again about two years ago. I'm having trouble finding the same motivation I did four years ago, but keep trying

  5. I'm really surprised you could eat that much at not quite two months post op. I was not physically capable. Even now, after 4 years I could probably only eat about half of the half. did you get any wanting signs from your body that you were over eating? My nose starts running, and then I start sneezing uncontrollably for three minutes when I take one bite too much.

Every one's surgeon does have a different eating plan afterwards. My surgeon didn't restrict any foods, even bread, once I was cleared for eating regular food again. I chose to not eat bread for the first year, aka the honeymoon period, because I wanted to make the most out of my sleeve. I paid $14k and I was gonna get my money's worth.

I don't feel like anyone was here was condescending or trying to demean you. The veterans here have good advice to give. They want you to succeed with your surgery.

You did ask, you may not always like the answers you get, but I think many need to hear the truth not platitudes, especially just starting out.

  6. Before I had my surgery, I was on here religiously ( it was still vertical sleeve talk then) and did a lot of research. So to my surprise when I got sent home, I was not told a certain amount of Protein or calories to be Intaking. Because from what I read here, other people's surgeons did that. I was given a food stage list week by week and what kinds of food I could have. I don't remember how long I had to stay on liquids after surgery, but I was told to drink drink drink. I think I was cleared for all foods either 4-6 weeks post op. They only reason I knew how important Protein intake and Fluid Intake was post op was due to these boards I was on religiously before my surgery. I had a very good surgeon too who was very involved with his patients. He would come to our support groups every month. As a side note, I'm allowed to have carbonated beverages and use a straw per his plan. Anyway that was four years ago.

  7. I paid for my surgery out of pocket, my insurance has a wls exclusion in it. I financed it through my credit union. Just paid it off last month. I was lucky and had a good bariatric surgeon locally and used him. I thought about going to Mexico as the price is significantly cheaper, I opted to stay Local for the higher price tag. I intensively researched which surgery I wanted, and decided the sleeve was my best option. I had my first appointment with my surgeon at the end of April 2012, and had my surgery June 12, 2012. Best decision I ever made.

Also I had a three day liquid diet prior to surgery

  8. I had the sleeve 4 years ago. I only started dating about a year ago and in a relationship. My scars don't show. I pointed them out to my bf one night because he asked about them and I had trouble finding them. I guess to tell or not to tell varies person to person. For me, I saw this relationship I was in as a long term thing so I told. I was more worried about having to explain why I can still eat so little than scars. TMI warning, I was never concerned about my excess skin until we had naughty time in front of a mirror recently. Omg I need a boob lift and Tummy Tuck

  9. I don't have a lot of friends. I had my sleeve about 4 years ago. 2 years ago my best friend since we were 12 decided she didn't want to be friends anymore. She told other people we have in common that I changed since I lost a lot of weight, and she didn't like the person I've become. Growing up we had always been about the same size, so when I had the surgery that was no longer the case. I may have changed since surgery, I spend more time outside, I go workout, I count calories but I didn't turn into someone kind of superficial Bish. It's been two years and it still stings like it happened yesterday
