    people not educating themselves

Before I had my surgery, I was on here religiously ( it was still vertical sleeve talk then) and did a lot of research. So to my surprise when I got sent home, I was not told a certain amount of Protein or calories to be Intaking. Because from what I read here, other people's surgeons did that. I was given a food stage list week by week and what kinds of food I could have. I don't remember how long I had to stay on liquids after surgery, but I was told to drink drink drink. I think I was cleared for all foods either 4-6 weeks post op. They only reason I knew how important protein intake and Fluid Intake was post op was due to these boards I was on religiously before my surgery. I had a very good surgeon too who was very involved with his patients. He would come to our support groups every month. As a side note, I'm allowed to have carbonated beverages and use a straw per his plan. Anyway that was four years ago. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. I paid for my surgery out of pocket, my insurance has a wls exclusion in it. I financed it through my credit union. Just paid it off last month. I was lucky and had a good bariatric surgeon locally and used him. I thought about going to Mexico as the price is significantly cheaper, I opted to stay Local for the higher price tag. I intensively researched which surgery I wanted, and decided the sleeve was my best option. I had my first appointment with my surgeon at the end of April 2012, and had my surgery June 12, 2012. Best decision I ever made. Also I had a three day liquid diet prior to surgery Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  12. I had the sleeve 4 years ago. I only started dating about a year ago and in a relationship. My scars don't show. I pointed them out to my bf one night because he asked about them and I had trouble finding them. I guess to tell or not to tell varies person to person. For me, I saw this relationship I was in as a long term thing so I told. I was more worried about having to explain why I can still eat so little than scars. TMI warning, I was never concerned about my excess skin until we had naughty time in front of a mirror recently. Omg I need a boob lift and tummy tuck Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  13. I don't have a lot of friends. I had my sleeve about 4 years ago. 2 years ago my best friend since we were 12 decided she didn't want to be friends anymore. She told other people we have in common that I changed since I lost a lot of weight, and she didn't like the person I've become. Growing up we had always been about the same size, so when I had the surgery that was no longer the case. I may have changed since surgery, I spend more time outside, I go workout, I count calories but I didn't turn into someone kind of superficial Bish. It's been two years and it still stings like it happened yesterday Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    4 years post op-vsg

I'm very pleased with the amount of restriction I still have with Protein dense meals 4 years out, I can still only eat 3-4oz of meat at a meal. I did a lot research before I had my surgery deciding which one was the best for me (I was self pay, insurance did not cover it) And this is why I chose the sleeve. It's become a realization to me that I will have to log my food forever. My biggest nightmare is to gain all the weight back. I'm 5-09, and my weight on the day of surgery was 276, lowest weight was 174, current weight is 195, goal weight is 168. Thank you all for the kind words. It's hard not to beat yourself up for regain. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
