    New And Not Feeling Well

Hello Ruth, Your only a week out from your surgery, so you should be on liquids, protein shake and 64 oz water a day for the first two weeks. Are you getting these down? I was allowed to take a shower day 3 but not allowed to get in bath or pool for a month, until incisions heal. You should be able to start soft foods at the beginning of week 3, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, peanut butter, skim milk, low fat cheddar, part skim mozzarella, swiss cheese, couscous and soy milk. The following week, week 4- I was allowed to add beans, fish, nuts, oysters, scallops, shrimp, clams and quinoa. No fried foods. Week 5 I was able to add Chicken breast and roast turkey. Week 6 (Thats where I am now.) opens up to all other meat choices.Protein is your priority, 30-40 g per day. You will feel much better when you can get your protein and water down each day. I really hope this helps. Best wishes!
  2. I too had a headache, at first I thought it was the Loratab. It only lasted for a week and then went away, but that was also when I was able to drink my protein shake and 4 bottles of water. So you may just be dehydrated. Try to sip slowly all day. Hang in there it does get better. I am only 11 days out and fell great. Just head hunger.
  3. Hello, I would like us to get to know each other, so here's my story... I am 47 yrs old, Married to my wonderful husband Richard for 27 yrs now. I have two awesome sons, Jason 26 and Josh 23. My son Joshua was married last July and they are about to have his first child. The decision to have this surgery was not an easy one for me. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, acid reflux, sleep apnea and side effects from the diabetes. I have seen people get diabetes complications and have their toes, feet, legs removed. Blindness is also a real possibility. I have nerve damage starting in my feet, and sighs of damage in my eyes. I want to be able to play with my grandchild and enjoy my life as I get older. So...... this is why I made the decision to have the surgery. I was on 3 different meds for my diabetes, including insulin. My surgery was 8 days ago and I am off all the diabetic meds, sleep apnea is gone, blood pressure is better. For now I still take the blood pressure med and the med for cholesterol, but am told I will be off them soon. Each day I feel better and better. I have lost 22 pounds since I saw my surgeon in May. 11 since my surgery on 6/19. I am very pleased with the improvment of my health and am told it will get better in the coming months. I would really like to hear from you. Thanks for reading my story. RanayB

    Fresno But Not Kaiser

I am doing pretty good. Still having some gas pains and pain from incisions. I get tired very easly also. Took a nap today, lol. I am able to get a Protein Shake and almost 4 bottles of Water down as of today. I am having unexplained headaches. I thought it was the liquid vicodin so I quit taking it as of yesterday morning and am still getting the headaches just not as severe. I am now using childrens chewable tylenol, they only had grape and I hate grape, but it helps. LOL. Thanks for asking.

    Fresno But Not Kaiser

Hello BoBann, My sister had gastric bypass by Dr. Felix 13 years ago. She is doing good. Lost 175 ibs( was 375), had a baby 2 years after surgery and still kept her weight down. She was going thru a rough period and had a problem with beer for the last couple years so now her weight is up to 215. She's realized her problem and has quit drink now for the last 3 weeks. She's back on track and should start dropping her weight again. My sister does not have insurance and can not see a Dr. regularly so she has lactose intolerence, low blood sugar, Iron defencincey, malabsorbtion issues. But I have her on rack with her Vitamins and Protein intake now so she should be doing better soon. How are you doing?

    Post-Op

Hello. I had my surgery on 6/19. Stayed in the hospital for 3 days. I developed a small leak, and was not able to drink much Water. Things got better the next day and Dr. Alvarez let me come home.Came home yesterday, I feel so much better being home. Got a 8oz of an 11oz Protein Shake and 36 oz of water down today. Gotta do better on the water tomorrow. I am off the liquid vicodin, it was giving me severe headaches, now I'm taking childrens chewable tylenol. Feeling bloated and sore, but not too bad. Taday was better than yesterday and I believe tomorrow will be better as well. One day at a time and just sip, sip, sip. How are you doing?
