August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

My doc and dietician said solid food at 4 weeks when I went in. I found that I started eating less and less when I did that. I've lost 37 pounds so far 14 before surgery, so feel like I'm doing well. The last two weeks have been slow though. But get a fill next week. By the way, those of you who get surgery in Mexico, how do you get your fills?????

I had surgery on 8th of August and I am now on solid food. They are telling me that it's better if I eat solid food so you don't eat as much. I'm still having less than 1000 cals a day. So it's great!!! Glad I'm on solid food too.

    Friday

The "non-drowsy" pain meds the dr gave me put me to sleep. Man! I wish the back pain would go. It's not as bad today so I'll try to not take anything today but tylenol and see what happens. I'm still losing weight Halleluia!!! :youcandothis:I have a fill in 3 weeks so I'll be glad of that. Love to soak in my new jacuzzi tub. I think these smiley things are cute.

    one month post-op

:typing:I'm one month post op and have lost 33 pounds. I know it says 28 on my ticker but I actually gained 5 pounds before I started loosing so..that's why. I'm doing good, but for 1 month I've had back and shoulder pain. It's gradually going away. They have told me now that I can go to solid food because you will lose weight faster if you are full. So I tried that. We went to dinner last night and I could hardly eat anything. Once the dinner part came I was already full. It's kind of cool, but I know that I am going to lose weight. Trying all kinds of pain meds too, tylenol doesn't cut it, nor ibuprophen. The dr gave me some other non-narcotic med for my back. Hopefully that will help. I get it today. Otherwise. I'm doing great!:clap2:

August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

Hi, I can't remember your name, but the nausea is normal for me after anesthesia so they gave me fenergen (sp?) which is a medicine for nausea. I asked for it, and it was great because otherwise I would throw up constantly post-op. Now at a month post-op I'm doing great.
  10. I am having such shoulder pain that I can't stand it. How long will it last???? I am two weeks + post op and my neck and shoulder are killing me. I had a CT scan to see if there was a Pulmonary Embolism, but I knew there wasn't. I have read about the referred pain from the diaphragm. HELP!!! How long??? Is this forever?????:help:
  11. the blood thinner I was given is a part of the hepprin family. That's all I know. The name you gave sounds familiar but they all sound the same. The doctor said it was pretty rare but that's weird. It wasn't life threatening I don't think......at least under the morphine I didn't care. Hope you do well.
  12. I had the same problem with meds. Looking for ibuprophen in liquid was difficult, my husband brought me baby ibuprophen. I told him I would have to take almost an entire bottle per dose. So that didn't work, then i got gel liquid caps and emptied them. Almost burned my mouth off. Ouch. Now I'm just crushing them. That's the least trouble. As for the other meds I take them in a spoonful of yogurt and it's not bad. Also my husband asked the pharmacist for liquid versions of some of them, I found a liquid metformin. It's horrible but liquid and better than the large pill crushed. V8 juice eases the taste quickly. Ask your doctor about liquid versions....of course when they are back from vacation. I also had that problem too. Good luck to you and blessings.:ranger:
  13. try spending two nights in the hospital. I guess I was allergic to the blood thinner they gave me right before surgery. So I had to stay til I was stable to go home. I felt great but had to stay anyway. I was possibly prepared for one night but was told it would probably be outpatient. So this was a surprise and a disappointment as I didn't sleep well the first night. The second was better and then home. When I got home I was well on my way to feeling good. Now 10 days post op I feel good. I've lost about 8 pounds post-op so that's great too.
  14. my shoulder still hurts so I called the dr. He had me go in for a CT scan looking for a Pulmonary Embolism, which thankfully isn't there, but the pain in my shoulder is still keeping me up at night so they gave me more pain meds. I'm thinking that somehow I pinched a nerve or something like that? Any thoughts? The band part itself has healed great. The weight is just dropping off right now. I know that's temporary for things to go this fast. Probably water, but feeling great other than bad shoulder pain when pain meds wear off. I probably will go see my primary care dr this week to see if it's something else. Hope everyone else is doing good!!! I'm going to try to get into a support group here in town but I continually forget on the night I should go. OOPs...it's that over 40 thing. I don't think the band helped my brain any. Not dealing with any mourning right now, and no hunger issues either. I am able to drink a lot of fluids though, perhaps that's why. I will start on pureed food in a coupld of days.
  15. I'm surprised but I have no hunger at all, infact I feel like I just ate a turkey dinner all the time. I have barely gotten down 600 cals yesterday and today is no different. I'm going to just accept that it's that way for me right now. I have a liquid natural appetite suppressant on hand if I had needed it but I don't , it's called hoodia. I get it from Source Naturals. But haven't taken any. Perhaps its the pain meds that are keeping me from being hungry. Anyway, I'll let you know if I get hungry. I sure hope not, but will be praying for you to get through this hard time. Hang in there.
