August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

My doc and dietician said solid food at 4 weeks when I went in. I found that I started eating less and less when I did that. I've lost 37 pounds so far 14 before surgery, so feel like I'm doing well. The last two weeks have been slow though. But get a fill next week. By the way, those of you who get surgery in Mexico, how do you get your fills?????

August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

I had surgery on 8th of August and I am now on solid food. They are telling me that it's better if I eat solid food so you don't eat as much. I'm still having less than 1000 cals a day. So it's great!!! Glad I'm on solid food too.

    Friday

The "non-drowsy" pain meds the dr gave me put me to sleep. Man! I wish the back pain would go. It's not as bad today so I'll try to not take anything today but tylenol and see what happens. I'm still losing weight Halleluia!!! :youcandothis:I have a fill in 3 weeks so I'll be glad of that. Love to soak in my new jacuzzi tub. I think these smiley things are cute.

    one month post-op

:typing:I'm one month post op and have lost 33 pounds. I know it says 28 on my ticker but I actually gained 5 pounds before I started loosing so..that's why. I'm doing good, but for 1 month I've had back and shoulder pain. It's gradually going away. They have told me now that I can go to solid food because you will lose weight faster if you are full. So I tried that. We went to dinner last night and I could hardly eat anything. Once the dinner part came I was already full. It's kind of cool, but I know that I am going to lose weight. Trying all kinds of pain meds too, tylenol doesn't cut it, nor ibuprophen. The dr gave me some other non-narcotic med for my back. Hopefully that will help. I get it today. Otherwise. I'm doing great!:clap2:

August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

Hi, I can't remember your name, but the nausea is normal for me after anesthesia so they gave me fenergen (sp?) which is a medicine for nausea. I asked for it, and it was great because otherwise I would throw up constantly post-op. Now at a month post-op I'm doing great.
  8. I am having such shoulder pain that I can't stand it. How long will it last???? I am two weeks + post op and my neck and shoulder are killing me. I had a CT scan to see if there was a Pulmonary Embolism, but I knew there wasn't. I have read about the referred pain from the diaphragm. HELP!!! How long??? Is this forever?????:help:
  9. the blood thinner I was given is a part of the hepprin family. That's all I know. The name you gave sounds familiar but they all sound the same. The doctor said it was pretty rare but that's weird. It wasn't life threatening I don't think......at least under the morphine I didn't care. Hope you do well.
  10. I had the same problem with meds. Looking for ibuprophen in liquid was difficult, my husband brought me baby ibuprophen. I told him I would have to take almost an entire bottle per dose. So that didn't work, then i got gel liquid caps and emptied them. Almost burned my mouth off. Ouch. Now I'm just crushing them. That's the least trouble. As for the other meds I take them in a spoonful of yogurt and it's not bad. Also my husband asked the pharmacist for liquid versions of some of them, I found a liquid metformin. It's horrible but liquid and better than the large pill crushed. V8 juice eases the taste quickly. Ask your doctor about liquid versions....of course when they are back from vacation. I also had that problem too. Good luck to you and blessings.:ranger:
  11. try spending two nights in the hospital. I guess I was allergic to the blood thinner they gave me right before surgery. So I had to stay til I was stable to go home. I felt great but had to stay anyway. I was possibly prepared for one night but was told it would probably be outpatient. So this was a surprise and a disappointment as I didn't sleep well the first night. The second was better and then home. When I got home I was well on my way to feeling good. Now 10 days post op I feel good. I've lost about 8 pounds post-op so that's great too.
  12. my shoulder still hurts so I called the dr. He had me go in for a CT scan looking for a Pulmonary Embolism, which thankfully isn't there, but the pain in my shoulder is still keeping me up at night so they gave me more pain meds. I'm thinking that somehow I pinched a nerve or something like that? Any thoughts? The band part itself has healed great. The weight is just dropping off right now. I know that's temporary for things to go this fast. Probably water, but feeling great other than bad shoulder pain when pain meds wear off. I probably will go see my primary care dr this week to see if it's something else. Hope everyone else is doing good!!! I'm going to try to get into a support group here in town but I continually forget on the night I should go. OOPs...it's that over 40 thing. I don't think the band helped my brain any. Not dealing with any mourning right now, and no hunger issues either. I am able to drink a lot of fluids though, perhaps that's why. I will start on pureed food in a coupld of days.
  13. I'm surprised but I have no hunger at all, infact I feel like I just ate a turkey dinner all the time. I have barely gotten down 600 cals yesterday and today is no different. I'm going to just accept that it's that way for me right now. I have a liquid natural appetite suppressant on hand if I had needed it but I don't , it's called hoodia. I get it from Source Naturals. But haven't taken any. Perhaps its the pain meds that are keeping me from being hungry. Anyway, I'll let you know if I get hungry. I sure hope not, but will be praying for you to get through this hard time. Hang in there.
  14. Pammycakes No I'm not hungry I can hardly get down two protein shakes and enough water. I think it was about 600 cals yesterday. I wonder if it has anything to do with the hernia repair. Anyway, I really have to work at eating. Only 4 days out though. Keep me posted on your progress.
  15. Your scales are not broken you have just lost water. Wow you had yours done on the same day as I. How are you feeling physically are you up and around???
  16. Hi, I was banded Wednesday. Feeling good. Slept in my own bed (lying down) and am doing a little laundry today. (no heavy lifting). When they went in to do the surgery. They said it would be outpatient (probably) but it turned out that I had a hiatal hernia to repair. That taken care of I had to spend the night. I went a total of 38 hours without food or Water before the swallow test. I did however get the iv. I was about to break down and cry when they said it was time for the swallow test. That was really cool. I got to actually see the placement of the band and how the fluids were going down. I wound up having to stay another night because I was allergic to the blood thinner they give right before surgery. It's part of the Heprin family so they needed to verify it with another day of blood tests. So I got to stay two nights. One might have been expected but two I didn't expect. My husband and I did however sleep good. Right after the surgery they gave me morphine which made me very dizzy and I had dry heaves for the first day. Finally I told them no more morphine and they game me dilatted for pain. At home now, the pain is totally almost gone and never was that bad. The worst of it was the shoulder pain from the gas. I had about 600 calories yesterday maybe less, and today I'm doing well. No hunger either and only a couple of times have I wanted to grab for something to chew, but it was just out of habit and not hunger. Hopefully this is going to be a good sign for me. I feel full all the time. Lots of burpiing. How are you all doing? And how was your hospital/surgical experience??? My family has been great! Very supportive. What are your experiences?
  17. Hi, Crazy 8's I had my surgery Wednesday. They told us it would probably be outpatient, but I had a hiatal hernia they had to repair when they got in there. So I was total in surgery and recovery about 5 hours. Long time, but I had told the anesthesiologist that I didn't want to remember anything, so I guess he did a good job of knocking me out. The morphine really knocked me for a loop. So much nausea, but other than that I was up and around in no time. They made me stay in the hospital two nights as they discovered that a blood thinner they gave me I was allergic to and they needed to confirm that. So we just waited there. I'm still a bit sore here on Saturday, but up an around and finally able to go on the internet and sit there comfortably. I went without Water or food for a total of 38 hours before surgery and after while we waited for my swallow eval. I think I did wind up crying before it was finally over, once I could drink I would have drank liver juice (well....maybe not) . Everything tasted so good. Today I had a hard time downing the protein/fluids I was supposed to , but was within the low side of what they want to see so I'm ok with that. I've had relatively no pain in the surgery areas, most has been from the gas they use in you and the hernia repair. I think this is probably going to wind up being one of the best things I've ever done. I also lost a few more pounds too.
  18. My surgery being 8/8. That's pretty awesome. I do pray that I can get home same day, but depends on what time of day I have surgery. Good luck to you all.
  19. My surgery is Aug 8th in Portland, Oregon. Looking forward to following everyone's progress. I've lost 11 so far.
  20. I'll finally be banded August 8th after waiting 2 1/2 years. Well 6 months this time. At Oregon Legacy Obesity Institute by Dr. Emma Patterson. will keep you posted on my progress. I don't know if my ticker still works. I thought it would have been done in April...but I was wrong. So much red tape. I had to wait two months just to see the surgeon. I am at 262 started at 273+ (depending on day) and hope to get under 200 someplace. Real goal would be 170 since I'm 5'8" big bones.

I've been battling to get bcbc FEP to pay for the pre-diagnostic stuff for quite a few months. Now they are starting to pay. For a long time they would say "yes, you're covered", then not pay. I still have two outstanding bills that I'm waiting for them to pay. Also, my file was not sent to the surgeon like I thought it would be and a month later I found out it was still with the clinic, "oops we forgot to forward it". They finally scheduled me to see the surgeon in July. This has been going on since February. It seems like others go through much faster than I but I guess I'm ok with it. By the time I have surgery it'll be August or maybe even September. But...I guess thats ok. Keeping positive about it now.:bored

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

I have been told by physicians and the obesity center that I will not feel hunger with the lap band, they said if I do it's that I don't have my band full enough. So tell me why do I hear so many of you say you're hungry???? I'm curious. I am to be done in May or June. Is it cravings??? or actually stomach growling hunger? Just Curious

Madine, I have diabetes, hbp, sleep apnea, etc., all the co-morbidities and so far no one has said anything to me about doing anything prior to the surgery as far as a supervised diet. At least that's what I know right now.

I have fepbcbs and was told it would go smoothly. I have received benefit notifications after the psych eval and after the labs, ekg, etc and they didn't pay. We called them several times and each time they said "yes, it's covered and they were going to take care of it". This is about three weeks later and it's still not been paid, we called again and they said again "we will take care of it". I really think they will, but it's a hassle. The person that answers the phone doesn't ever help us, we have to always ask to talk to a supervisor. Anyway, thought I'd share my experience so far. I'm sure they will pay, but as I learned from another surgery years ago You have to challenge just about everything. Read your benefits and challenge them if they don't pay, when the book says they should. I am waiting to hear from the surgeon now, they have to hear from bcbs an approval, so that should be done, if not. I'll call again.
