I think that depends on your will to keep quiet...with me, I didn't want to tell anyone either, or so I thought...but then I felt excited and confident about it...I wanted everyone to know that I wasn't being lazy about my weight, that I was making the hardest decision there was in regards to my weight! So, I told people, and didnt care who was supportive, and who wasn't...it was my body, my health and my life! The only person that mattered in this situation was ME! So, if you are more comfortable staying quiet, then do so, but please realize the only person who matters in this issue is YOU!!!!

I was just thinking the same thing about the Protein drinks. Everyone says it was sort of trial and error, so I could work on finding the kind I like. My NUT said not to try to lose any weight, but to just start focusing on getting the 64oz of Water and exercise 3 days a week. This is going to drive me nuts the next couple of months. Just approve me already!

Tell them, it's not worth the risk. If you're not honest about being sick prior to surgery, the anesthesia personnel could have a hard time removing the breathing tube afterward. You didn't come this far to get sicker after surgery for something totally unrelated to your sleeve. I'm an OR nurse and I'll tell you first hand, most anesthesia personnel don't routinely listen to your chest, unless you tell them you've been sick recently. Be honest!

As a nurse, I've seen my share of both. I've seen healthy, thriving WLS post-op patients, and I've seen frail, sickly looking ones too. I don't know the why or the hows in the difference of appearances, but people have surgery everyday and sometimes don't bounce back as well as everybody else. I think of WLS as a chance at a better life, that comes with risks, but what's the alternative? There are healthy looking fat people (usually not for long) and there are sickly looking skinny people. I'd still rather be the sickly looking skinny person.

    Hello everybody,
I just wanted to introduce myself and let everyone know that you are doing an amazing job on this forum. Everyone is so positive, which is so refreshing. With that said, I'm just beginning the process of meeting the requirements for insurance, so I'll be here reading and enjoying this forum for many months before I get close to a surgery date. Just wanted to say thanks for all the info!

I told the one person in my dept that can't hold Water. She told any and everybody she could, and I just shrugged every time I was asked. Because we're OR nurses, everybody chimed in with their concerns about leaks, malnutrition, dehydration, and all of the above. I told them if I didn't do it, I'd be dead in a few years anyway. No one had a comeback for that one. The funny thing is that two other nurses came out the closet about their plans to have WLS too, so then it was the big girls against the skinnies.

I am blessed to have a family that supports every decision that I make. As for my co-workers, just about everybody there has had their boobs done and tummy tucks, so I just raise my eyebrow when I hear something negative, and ask them if they really want me to go there.

Lol, I purposely told the biggest loud mouth in our department, specifically so she could get the word out. Ironically, two other nurses have come out of the closet about their plans to have WLS too. The truth shall set you free.
