My first "bad" experience
I am 4 weeks out today! Yea me! Before going to bed last night, I took my meds with some bottled Water. I kind of forgot to sip and really took a couple of swigs of the water. I knew immediately that I screwed up! It felt like I had air trapped in my esophagus and needed to burp really bad, but when I tried to burp it gurgled. couldn't get relief until I got rid of it. It wasn't really like throwing up, but just letting the water come back out. It was really uncomfortable until that happened. I feel so "normal" now that sometimes I forget that I have a really tiny tummy and must treat it nicely.

Found a protein drink I really like!
I have been using Prostat 64 and it is tolerable if I take like medicine. I put 1 oz in a medicine cup. Take a big swallow, then a second swallow and I am done. 1 Oz is 16 grams of Protein. Not too yuk, but certainly not enjoyable. Today I tried Profect protein beverage. It has 25 grams of protein in a 2.9 fl oz vial. It is not thick, it looks and takes like Kool-Aid. The one I tried was passion fruit. I can do this! Found it on Amazon.

Is chewing gum a problem after sleeve?
I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op. Been thinking about trying a piece of sugar-free gum. Can't find anything about chewing gum on the forum and my doc has said nother pro or con. Anybody had good or bad experiences chewing gum?

How many felt nauseous the after surgery?
Yes I was very nauseated right after I woke up. Anethesia does it to me every time! The Anesthesiologist said he would make sure he added something to the anethesis for the nausea. Either he forgot or it didn't work. Lots of dry heaves. It lasted about 18 hours and that was the last of it. Have not been nauseated since I left the hospital.

Scrambled eggs were not what I expected
Just finishing my second week post op. Can begin soft foods tomorrow. I have done extremely well with everything I've tried so far. I have felt like I could eat anything. Have had no problems. I've eaten grits, oatmeal, puddding, Jello without any problem. I was so much looking forward to scrambled eggs. So I tried this morning (a day early, I know) and did not enjoy at all. It's hard to explain. It was more an issue in my throat than my stomach. Ate a couple very small bites and stopped. Just an uncomfortable feeling. So I'll try some other soft foods and go back to my egg (maybe fried with Pam?) on another day.:001_smile:

First Day on Full Liquids! Yay!!
Pennie, I know what you mean about waking up depressed about weight. For so so many years I woke up telling myself that today is the day I'm changing my life, but by the time I got to the kichen, it all went out of the window. I was just sleeved on 2/5/10 and even though I've lost about 15 pounds already, I don't feel any smaller. People tell me it is probably still bloat from the surgery. I hope so. I want my pants to fall off! Anyway, now I wake up and am so thankful I have finally done something positive about my weight problem. Today I have had about 1/4 cup grits for Breakfast, 1/4 cup crawfish bisque for lunch ( I work at a private dining club with an awesome chef!) and been sipping on Water or juice, taking my Vitamins and my Prostat 64 and I feel stuffed! Wow! Anxiously waiting to have eggs next week.

Losing pounds, but not sizes... Is this normal?
Youknowit, I am the same way! I was sleeved on 2/5/10 and the scales say I have lost 15 pounds, but my clothes do not fit differently at all! I hope it is the surgery weight (whatever that is) and I'll drop sizes quickly all of a sudden

02/11/10 Day 6 Post-Op
Today was my day to go back to work. Not really a bad day. Got really tired after lunch. No pain at all. I'm in Louisiana and it has been snowing all day! Haven't seen a flake since the SnowBowl Independence Bowl in 2000. So the temp started to drop and everybody panicked that the roads would get icy so we left about 3:00. Had a really good day. I would not have believed 3 days ago that I could go to work and feel good doing it!

02/10/10 Day5 Post Op
I knew I had to go back to work tomorrow so I figured I'd better condition myself some. So I did not go back to bed. I showered and got dressed, got in my car and went out. When I got home I was tired, but forced myself to not go to bed. Just watched TV. I made supper for my DH (and my disabled sister-in-law lives with us). I sat down and said I'm done! It wasn't long and I went to bed exhausted. I have very little pain if any. I'm having no trouble at all drinking my clear liquids.

02/08/10 Day 3 Post-Op
Monday. Glad I have a few days off:blush:. Got up early and made my DH lunch. Hung around until he left for work and went straight back to bed! I got up and stayed up for awhile. Took a nap. Didn't push it. Took a nap. Felt good but just sooo tired!

2/7/10 2 Days Post-op
Anxious and ready to go home. Only about a 25 minute drive. Got home about 11:30 a.m. My 2 sweet granddaughters (age 6 & 3) came straight from church to see me. That would make anybody want to get up and dance. (But I didn't). Pretty good rest of the day. Superbowl Sunday. Go Saints! Who Dat! I watched the first half with the fam and then went to bed to watch the second half. Woke up to see the final score! Yea Saints. Had shopped before surgery so had my juice and crytal light and broth and stuff so I began my 1 oz every 30 minutes. Feel good. Just tired and want to sleep all day.

2/6/10 Day 1 Post-Op
Still in the hospital. Still very nauseated. Can't move for fear of dry-heaving! Doc comes in about 2 o'clock and tell me how well I'm doing:confused1:. He said nausea from anesthesia last from 12-18 hours for those people like me so it should be about done and it was. After nausea passed I really felt okay. They had those things on my lower legs that inflate and deflate. They plug into the bed so I could not get out of bed without help unplugging those stupid things. By evening I was just mad because I was tethered to the bed! I was feeling pretty good. DH stayed the night again (the sweet thing!)

LiquaCel Orange Liquid Protein
Why does liquid Protein have to be soooooo sweet? And the odor is sooooo strong! I guess the sweetness and the odor is there to mask something really bad. I am currently trying to ingest the LiquaCel Orange. Anyway I am a week post-op today and I am determined to get my 50-60 grams of protein simply because I know it's for my best. I am still limited to 1 oz of clear liquid every 30 minutes. I have tried chugalugging it out of my 1 oz little cup. OMG! I've tried mixing it with Water. That's okay but it would take all day long to get in my protein if that's all I drank! So I decided today I would just take it like medicine. Just grin and bear it! One oz of LiquaCel is 16 grams of protein. I pour it into a tablespoon (twice) and just do it! Done! Three to four times a day.

2/5/10 Surgery Day 0
Got up early. Excited. Not really than anxious. Supposed to be at hospital by 8:00 a.m. Was told surgery would be 9:30 or 10. Well they didn't come and get me until 11:15. Then in holding for a good bit longer. Lost tract of timeline. I had a pretty good size hiatal hernia that the surgeon repaired as well as the VSG. I awoke in recovery feeling like I could not breathe. I remember I kept saying, "I can't breathe!" And the nurses kept telling me that I was breathing. Heard the doc in the background saying it was the pressure from hernia repair that made me feel that way. Don't remember going to my patient room. Do remember waking up very nauseated. Very sick for about 12 hours. I new the doc didn't want me throwing up but you know, some things you just can't control. Dry heaved quite a bit the rest of the day and throughout the night. DH stayed with me (the sweet thing!)

I am now 4 days post op!!
So my surgery was on 2/5. Everything went according to plan. I did have a pretty good size hiatal hernia that my surgeon repaired. I have to be honest - the anethesia made me very sick for about 18 hours. Dry heaved a lot. Sorry if that freaks anybody out, but I have to say I knew it was coming. Every time I have had anesthesia in my life it has made me sick. But that is all behind me now. I spent 2 nights in the hospital. Came home on Sunday in time to watch the Superbowl. Wow what a game. I have not had any pain to speak of. Just really tired. Up a while and then a nap:) I am on a clear liquid diet - 1 oz every 1/2 hour. I have had no trouble at all drinking the 1 oz. Sometimes I am so thirsty I would like to drink a lot more, but know better. I am taking most of my prescriptions as before surgery. I just cut the pills in half. I haven't had any trouble getting the pills down. I'll post again in a day or two.:001_tongue:

Freaking out a bit!
Thanks to all of you for the comments. To his credit dh has seen me go up and down so many times. And to top it off he told me of a women he works with that got "stapled" a few years ago and is now bigger than ever! I told him that his coworker's "stapling" was much different than the VSG. He's ok. Just knows I am going through some tough weeks ahead and wants to be sure it's worth it. I assured him it will be. And BTW I've been married to him 40 years so he knows me well:)
