5 Confessions (Join In)
I had to read through these before gaining enough courage to post my own confessions! But, I LOVE this topic so here goes. I confess that not only drink regular coffee, but I use regular cream in it and drink sometimes more than 1 cup a day. I confess that I started smoking again and I'm really ashamed about it but I couldn't give up food and cigarettes without going crazy. I literally cried every day. So, cigarettes won - again. I confess that my weight loss is higher than expected (146 lbs in 8.5 months) so I sometimes feel invincible and eat more than I should or something not healthy. I confess that I stole a piece of chocolate out of a child's stocking and didn't feel too guilty. I confess that I miss my bigger boobs (even if they were mostly fat). I confess that I don't drink enough water anymore. I confess that I miss Taco Bell so much that when I drive past one I make my passengers have a moment of silence. I confess that I'm not perfect but I'm not doing my best. I did my best months ago and I need to find that willpower again. I have a strong woman inside me somewhere and she and I need to be reunited - hopefully at the gym. I confess that writing all of these confessions made me frown and smile and I feel a little lighter - if only emotionally.

Anyone know the signs of a leak
How high is your fever? I had the same symptoms 4 days out and the surgeon was OK with my fever at 99.8, but no higher. If it went to 100 or above, I was to go to the ER right away. If you are unsure, just go to the ER and don't mess around. It's better to be safe than sorry. Hope you feel better soon!

Car accident 4 weeks post op
You are off the blood thinners, right? If so, I'd just call him Monday to let him know. If you are still on them for some reason I'd call his answering service and have them call him (or the on-call doc) to make sure that you're in the clear.

What was your hardest day of post-op recovery?
Day 2 was awful for me. I still had the drain in and felt like I couldn't breathe. I was so nauceous and in an incredible amount of pain (much more than I ever thought I'd be in). But, by the next day when I was discharged, I was able to walk without too much trouble and getting that drain out of me made me feel so much better. Walking actually helped with the gas pain so if you experience that, get up and walk around. Good luck!

Weight Lost In 6 Weeks
@twic41 i believe that there isn't a "normal" and that everyone's body is different. that said, maybe you can go back to Protein shakes for a couple days to kind of kick-start the loss again. i'd definately schedule an appointment with the surgeon (not just the assistant) to discuss your options and make sure everything is okay.

Newbie - Post Op Meds
all of my tablet meds have to be crushed and my paperwork says that i'll be doing this for 1 year! crappy, but it's been almost 3 months and i'm more or less used to it. some meds taste horrible so i use a pill crusher and pour them onto a spoon. then i pour a little strong flavored Water (I like Propel's blueberry pomegranate and black cherry) onto the spoon and carefully swirl the meds so they get coated. then bottom's up! i do the same with my anti-acid that comes in a capsule -- i just open the caspule and pour in into the spoon. i'm still a clutz and spill meds or the water at least a couple times a week so maybe by the 1 year mark i'll be a pro. i still get strange looks if i have to do it in public, but i think most of them are reactions to the scrunched up face i make (still after 3 months!) because my anti-depression/anxiety med tastes AWFUL!

Gained Weight Right After Surgery!
yep, it's the fluids that they pump into you so you don't dehydrate. i was 13 pounds heavier the day after surgery and 8 pounds heavier on day 3 when i left the hospital. it took me a few days to lose it again.

Weight Lost In 6 Weeks
I had lost 58 pounds at my 6 week mark - including 18 that I lost in the week of protein shakes before the surgery.

Healthy Food, Unhealthy Thoughts
thank you all for the encouragement. i understand the "all or nothing" perspective because that was me for many years. my mind needs to keep up with my changing body!

Pain Week 3
yes, my right was much worse than my left and that's where my biggest incision was. try not to over do it and talk to your doctor if it worries you.

Healthy Food, Unhealthy Thoughts
I've noticed recently that I've begun to think unhealthy thoughts about eating. I had a Protein shake tonight for dinner because I feel like since I've hit stage 4 and began to eat regular food, the speed of my weight loss has decreased. Then I remembered that I had a piece of donut (the size of a quarter) because I was craving chocolate and now I feel guilty. I felt guilty after a party this weekend, too, even though I really didn't eat that poorly. There were many times before the surgery that I wished I felt guilty for eating and wished that I had anorexia instead of the urge to binge. Now that I'm eating healthy and doing really well on this journey, I feel like I don't want some sort of psychological intruder messing with my mind. I've spent years working on my self esteem and to suddenly doubt myself just isn't me. Has anyone else had these feelings of guilt or wanting to "punish" yourself for not eating right? Just typing this brings tears to my eyes like I'm actually being punished by someone.

I Am Afraid..
try not to worry about the future because you'll have a long road to go down before you get there and it will probably give you perspective that you never thought you could believe. remember that you will not fail. you may have slip-ups or bad days but this does NOT mean failing! go to support groups if your hospital/program offers them -- pre and post op. good luck!

Chewable Thiamin (B1)
I'm having a really hard time finding a chewable or liquid B complex Vitamin that contains 100 mg of B1. I've checked with vitamin stores, pharmacies and searched all over online. Even Bariatric Advantage's chewables are much too low (3-6 mg) in B1. I thought of getting a chewable B complex and then B1 by itself but again, the levels are much too low. I really don't want to buy the capsules and have to crush them in fear that they will taste horrible! Can anyone make recommendations?

Anti-Depressants
Im really surprised that the doc didnt give you a liquid or crushable! Going off an antidepressant is tough enough but it must be horrible while recovering and having all of these post op feelings. Dont be afraid to speek up and tell the doc you need something!
