  1. Surgery is not bad. I had no pain only discomfort from gas. For me, I've had a harder time getting through the addiction. It's worse than quitting smoking cold turkey BUT I wouldn't trade it and am very happy with the results and my restriction. Good luck!
  2. I was sleeved 10/16/11 I'm 4'10, hw 273, sw 257, cw 220. Loving it!
  3. Have you tried eliminating dairy? I was extremely nauseas and hospitalized for a week 3 wks post op. Even the IV meds didn't work...took dairy out of my diet and was better within 24 hrs. I tried sour cream today, just a little, and have been nauseas most of the day. It sux something fierce but I feel a lot better. Hope you feel better!
  4. Not everyone is the same. I can eat about half an egg. Maybe an ounce of chicken or tuna at a time. I can't do the shakes and I developed the lactose intolerance. I still don't get in all my protein and fight everyday to get in fluids. I'm still drinking Gatorade to keep from getting dehydrated again. Good for you that your doing so well! Count your blessings because not everyone is like you.
  5. I'm 6 wks out and I still am not there. I too am lucky to get to 400.
  6. I had my surgery in FL and flew home to TX a week later with my 2 kids. I was barely eating or drinking but at that point I was so ready to be home that I didn't care how little energy I had just get me to my bed! Lol
  7. Three week out is when I was hospitalized again. Egd showed that my stomach was narrowed and irritated. They put me on Prilosec 40mg twice a day. I was still nauseated. Removed dairy from my diet and the nausea went away within 24 hrs. I'm 6 wks post op now and I keep tourchering myself by trying dairy on occasion and it still makes me nauseas. It is one of those possible side affects of a sleeve. I tried Lactaid before eating dairy...doesn't work. I see my GI Thurday and hoping there's something else I can take. As a picky eater to begin with it doesn't leave me with many options. Hope you feel better!
  8. I was like this and even hospitalized for a week 3 wks post op. Once I took dairy out if my diet, it resolved. I'm 6 wks post op now and miss cheese but everytime I try to reintroduce it I get nauseated.
  9. Hey!!!! You too! How's it going? Are you getting excited? Your having your in San Antonio right? I'm excited for you! Keep me posted!
  10. It is definately a different feeling. To me the band was always san uncomfortable feeling. I had a revision a month after getting the band; my port flipped. Two years after having it I was getting pnemonia frequently and had gained back more than I lost. My band was placed to high, it ulcerated, and I was aspirating food. So out it went. I am only 6 weeks post op sleeve and I believe that I made a wise decision by having the surgery. However, I will tell you that it is mentally challenging. You may not have as much problem as I am in that aspect since you weren't able to eat much with your band but I feel like I've gone through a bad break up. It's the hardest thing I've ever done and I've quit smoking cold turkey 10 yrs ago. It is worth it though. I've lost 53 lbs that I wouldn't have done without the sleeve. Good luck to you! You ARE doing the right thing!
  11. Hey y'all! San Angelo here. I was sleeved 10/16 in Florida. I moved here in July and had a lap band which was removed in June and my Dr couldn't do it as a revision because the band ulcerated so I went back. Now I'm having a heck if a time finding a Dr in Texas to establish care with. . I love it here but I'm lonely and bored. I'm going to join a gym tomorrow to keep my head right. I'm having a hard time dealing with the addiction BUT I'm happy that I'm losing weight. Good luck to y'all!!
  12. Glad to hear I'm not alone. Part of my problem too is that I moved 1800 miles from my friends and family in July and I'm soooo bored and have not met anyone yet. I'm going to an Overeaters Anonymous meeting Wednesday and hoping that will help too. I just don't want to exchange one addiction for another and I can definitely see how that would happen.
  13. I still can't kick this funk of not being able to eat what I want. I know I should be happy that I have restriction and am losing weight and I am BUT I still find myself wanting to have what will taste good and not being able to fill the void of the "addiction" is really getting me down. I don't know if its just me or if its normal? I'm going to my shrink tomorrow so ill talk to him about it but dang when does it stop?!? Ill be 6 wks po on Tuesday.
  14. If anyone is interested in a clothing exchange please let me know. I currently have 3x and 22's that do not fit and am in need of 18/20's
  15. Agreed! I wasn't with my family this year since we just moved out of state but, we went to a co workers house and I couldn't help but feel out if place. Not because I wasn't with family, but because it made me realize that my family has always revolved Thanksgiving around food not thanks or giving. I also couldn't help but notice how much food people put in their plates...and that they ate ALL if it. Now that I'm in tune with portions, it made me realize how I ended up this way. It was a true eye opener for me in several ways. Next year I'm thinking of a way to give thanks rather than give people I know and love further health problems!
  16. I totally understand. I did not tell my dad until the day before surgery. Mainly I didn't want to worry him since his sister died after having WLS. The day after surgery I woke up (I was in ICU) and he was at my bedside crying. It was horrible. He didn't understand why I would do it and risk my life when I have two beautiful kids. So I explained that that's why I had the surgery and if course he brought up why I couldn't do it on my own. Being that he struggles with his weight, is diabetic, and has htn, my response was..."how's that working for you dad?!?" I think he got my point but I'm 5 wks post op and we haven't discussed weightloss or anything revolving progress or the surgery since. My step brother who is as ripped and healthy as they come made a bet with my 13 yr old that I won't lose weight. And, my mom who is a nutritionist is completely supportive. Go figure! Instead if fighting with them about it I will just prove them wrong in April when I see them again. I'm so glad I no longer live within miles. I feel for you I know how hurtful it is to have the ones you love turn their back on your success. Your still awesome no matter what and you made the right decision by making YOUR life healthier!
  17. You will soon understand. Don't get me wrong I am blessed to have the sleeve. However, it's just a tool and it doesn't cure the food addiction. If it came with a lobotomy maybe, but you still have your head thinking about the food. That doesn't stop once your sleeved. You still think about, you still want it, and if your a control freak like myself it will be challenging like it is for myself. I am 5 wks post op, my idea of Thanksgiving besides enjoying family is enjoying food. Enjoying food has yet to happen since I've been sleeved. It's hard getting in the proteins I need to waste a "meal" on something I "want." The sleeve isn't just as easy as the surgery, it's an addiction that has to be cured. The easy part is losing the weight, but there's a lot more to overcome. Gamblers don't quit gambling and stop thinking about it, smokers don't quit smoking and quit thinking about it, etc. I think a support group to help with food addiction should be part if being sleeved. I hope this makes sense and answers your questions. I am blessed and I would do it all over again. I'm happy with my decision, but I'm struggling with my addiction.
  18. Now that I'm sleeved, losing weight is easy. BUT, the thought of eating what I want is constantly on my mind. At times I'm so frustrated that I can't have what I "want" that I just don't eat at all. Does this ever change? Quitting smoking cold turkey was sooo much easier.
  19. Lets do it! Current 222 Xmas goal 207
  20. Awesome! Thanks y'all going on a hunt this weekend!
  21. Have you tried eliminating dairy? I was hospitalized for 4 days a few weeks ago for the same reason. Upper GI just showed that my stomach was narrowed and irritated. They put me on 40mg of Prilosec twice a day and I still couldn't eat. I stopped all dairy and within 24 hrs I could eat and drink soooo much better. I've never had a problem with dairy before but now that I'm sleeved I do. I hope you feel better!! Congrats on your weightloss!
