It's good to know that there are options besides creamy shakes. Not that I mind the chocolate, vanilla, strawberry but it gets old after a bit. I can't wait until after surgery so I can see if I still tolerate those kind of shakes. If not then I at least know where to go to get a fruit flavored alternative.

omgsh, Your poor brain. lol. Husband has asked me about stuff like that.He thinks if I can loose weight before the surgery on my own, than why have surgery. I try to explain to him. I have lost a large amount of weight in the past, with the use of prescription meds. I lost about 60 pounds in a year. Well they only let me have them for a year. It was super stressful trying to fight my hunger and 30 years of bad eating habits without some "help" i.e. pills. I kept it off for 2 years and then it just crept back on. What I am trying to say is, yes you can get it off with pills and stuff, but will it stay off? For me I know it wont.
At least this way I am forced to eat right. No more eating like a pig one day and starving the next, I feel like the lapband is going to force me to make new habits, and from what I have read, if I do try to eat wrong, it will probably be the last time, because of the consequences, and I am not that hard headed, I dont like it when bad things start happening. I know you have probably been racking your brains trying to decide. Just remember once it is off, you want it to stay off. If you can do that on your own, then that is wonderful, I just know I couldn't. Good luck to you and let us know.

I agree with the above poster. I have MULTIPLE times lost weight always to have it come back on. I believe just about anyone CAN lose weight but I think those of us who yo you for years really do need the tool the band can bring. I paid out of pocket for mine because I was so sick of the yo yo (our insurance won't cover it) and I feel so good about taking that control over this issue that's been with me for years. No it wasn't easy to come up with the money but in the end for me personally it was worth it. I send my thoughts and prayers to you as you make your decision. Best of luck to you.

Sorry to hear that you can't get the band, but I know several people who have had the RNY and are very happy. I think the mind set of , I will never get to have "this or this" again, is kind of part of a grieving /anxiety period that everyone goes through because the comfort we feel from these foods is like our best friend. Once it starts working for you, whatever you choose to do, you will be thrilled! If you try to eat sugars/chocolates and experience the side effects that come with it, you will no longer crave it. There are things you can't have with the band too. Try to see the procedure, whatever you have to do as a huge positive change in your life. I am considering revising from the band to the gastric sleeve. I was a self-pay on the banding and the financing was difficult and the cost of follow-up is also difficult. If your insurance is going to pay you are so lucky! You are getting a second chance on life!

Believe or not I go to a support group where we all have different wls surgeries and we all like each other and get along nobody is better or less than the next one. It does happen but you have to look for it. Some gastric people seem to think they are better because their surgery was more complicated than the band. Who cares, I say come back here whenever you want everyone needs support and I don't think you will find that many judgemental people here. I will alway be happy to talk to you just PM me!! Good luck on your journey, Remember God never closes a door with out opening another one for you . . .maybe this is what is right for you!!

I unfortunately have the gross boobs and I can blame that squarely on my children. So I am already planning ahead to after surgery and loosing weight I will be getting a tummy tuck and they will fix the boobs. My fiancee is super ok with that expense because he remembers what I looked like in high school with the waist length blond hair and the impressive rack. Which is good because he's going to be paying for them!

Mylynn, tell the doctor about it. Many times the doctors don't know that their office staff are falling down on the job. I agree, this is completely unacceptable and unless she wants to lose you as a patient, she needs to make sure her staff is following thru.

With Gastric Bypass and the Sleeve you can actually re-stretch your stomach and gain back weight if you're not careful. I have two friends that got each procedure, lost all kinds of weight in the first year and gained back at least half if not all of it by the 3 yr mark. I would say though that the sleeve seems like the way to go if your gonna revise because at least they aren't playing with your intestines, although cutting off a chunk of my stomach doesn't sound like much fun either. I would say that as far as less invasive surgery and recovery time you would be better off having them fix the band, but in the end it is a very personal choice and I wish you luck!

Thank you all for the kind words and advice. I have to say looking back at my post from yesterday I am a little embarrassed I got down on myself like that and cried poor me. I am lucky in a lot of ways and I am determined to make this work.
I really hope anyone new to this process doesn't get discouraged by my post. I am less than 2 month post op and only have had one fill. My journey is just starting. Please do not get discouraged by my words above. I would delete it but then all the good, kind words and advice that followed would be lost and that would be tragic.
It's funny how one day can make a difference and I didn't even step on the scale today....

I bet you Jim that your wife is the President of your Fan Club and wants to know if you're having problems. As for the rest lets break this down:
You could have gotten bypass but remind yourself..why didn't you? Did you not want someone mucking about in your insides playing with your intestines, cause that is a big turn off for me...ewww. One giant reason that I don't want the bypass.
Next have you done a mental inventory of everything you are eating and drinking..everything. Even if you just took a bite of something cooking on the stove, a cracker you picked up and popped in your mouth without thinking. Is your sodium up..cause if your sodium is up but your not compensated with fluid then you will not move a scale. This is worse for women but it can seriously derail a scale for guys too.
Next...tell them (not literally) to bite you! All those people, and I have found some of this out already BEFORE being banded, feel like they have some stake in your weight loss, some of them are jealous, some of them may be tuly rooting for you. You have to figure out which and prioritize them. The people in your corner keep em, the ones that are jealous or just like drama you can use as motivation. So after you get unstuck and loose more weight you can say...yeah Ive lost such and such, lap band is slower than many other surgeries so you don't have digestive problems and loose skin, etc.
And you can always come here and rant and we will all mentally tell those people to bite us too!

I say drop her if she doesnt want to support you thru your harder times then she can sit on the sidelines. If and when you see her dont inform her of things. Just hi, Im well. How are you and let it be. Iknow I had A LOT of family and friends tell me I was going to die having the surgery. Im down 55 lbs and feel amazing. Still not goal weight (about 30 more to go) but I am happy I weeded out a lot of the negative people in my life. The WLS is very hard to deal with emotionally and mentally and then the food and to add negative people is just not something you should put yourself thru. good luck and hope to hear something on a more positive note in a few months... Maybe some wedding photos! Enjoy YOUR life and dont worry about hers!

    hey mylynn
hate to say it but it sounds as if your (friend) is a smidge with the green eyed monster in just about all areas of your life.
you are trying to improve YOU. you are doing it. right this moment you are getting closer and closer to being who you want to be.
pity her if you must but do not let her control your mind/heart in making your life better. you are fighting for you. you are winning. dont stop.

HI! Personally I lived on tuna for a few months after I had a fill that was a little too much. I love tuna. I mix it with a little shredded lettuce and some ranch dressing - yum!
I still have exercise (2 yrs banded in a few days). I love to walk though and I do about 3 miles when I can - hard with 3 kids. My youngest and I (he's 3), will walk about a mile some days.
My entire circle of family and friends have been supportive. Except maybe my aunt who when she found out I got my band said something like, "Are you really that fat" Well, yes at 5'7": and 262 lbs I was that fat!
I still love my band, as too foods that I can't eat - it's RICE. Some people have different. I think things are subjective for everyone.

Hi there! The only reason why I started a blog on here is just so I had an outlet about the journey that I am embarking on. The only person who knows that I am going to be banded is my boyfrien, and that is because he is getting banded at the same time. It's just nice to be able to openly talk about it, with someone other than my BF. lol, he's excited about it, but doesn't have as many questions as I do, men will be men.
