The easy route
There is nothing easy about this. I still battle EVERYDAY with old habits. The difference in what you are doing and what they are doing is that when her 45 pounds have been put back on you will still be headed down down down on the scale. This IS NOT easy. Nothing about it is. It is hard work. When people ask me how I'm losing I say hard work and I've cut way back on what I'm eating, I drink more water, no more sodas and I haven't had bread or sugar since March 11. That is my answer. Some people I do tell that I have had surgery but others I don't. I could not be having the success I am having on my own, I've proven that over and over again BUT it is taking LOTS of work on my part to make it work.

Help, Ladies! Yeast infections since surgery! OMG, TMI!
I am having the same issue and it seems like I get one about a week before I am supposed to start. I have a GYN that will call in some diflucan anytime I need it so I'm lucy in that respect and usually one dose knocks it out completely. I know to add acidophilus but I just hadn't thought about it. I don't eat a lot of yogurt either, just trying to stay away from so many carbs. My sugar intake is ZERO so I know that is not it. I think it can also be hormonal. Good luck with getting yours better. You may want to call your GYN and see if you can get a diflucan, with in 3-5 days you should be feeling better (sorry that it's not sooner)

Going crazy
I didn't really feel ANY restriction until recently, like maybe two-three weeks ago (I'm 9 weeks out today). I didn't even feel much restriction with soft foods. It wasn't until I got on some more dense protein that I started feeling some restriction. Even now there are days where I don't feel much restriction and days when I can't even eat a now normal amount for myself. The liquids just slide through your new tummy, once you get to add something that will sit in it for a while then you will feel some restriction.

In need of clothes!
I am officially two months post op today (March 25 was my day)! I'm loving it! Losing weight with the sleeve is much harder than I ever imagined it would be but I KNOW that I would not be having the success that I am having without it!

Stupid Stall!
I will be 9 weeks out on Monday and I've had two so far. The first one I hit at 10 days out and it lasted 2 1/2 weeks, the second was at about 6 or 7 weeks and lasted another 3 1/2 weeks. I think I am finally breaking it now. I count a lot of NSV's during a stall (I can now wear both of my wedding rings again and I haven't been able to do that since last June, I'm dropping in clothes size(s), stuff like that). Also you should measure yourself. My first stall I was able to drop a pant size and the second stall that I've been in has me almost in another size smaller too. I need to measure myself again but it seems like when I'm in a stall the inches are coming off more noticably but when the scale is moving my body doesn't change as much. Keep plugging along and it will break, it is just a matter of time. To break my first stall I seriously dropped my carbs. I had been staying between 50-70 a day and I dropped it back to less than 30 but closer to 20 or less a day. Or maybe my body got adjusted and it was just time for me to start losing again, who knows. This time I haven't really changed anything, I was losing, I stalled and then started losing again. I know some people will lower or increase carbs and/or protein and will change up their exercise regimen or really increase the exercise. You just have to find what works for you. Good luck! Don't lose hope, your sleeve isn't broken, your body just has to catch up!

In need of clothes!
You may also want to try Goodwill or resale/consignment stores in your area. I have found some really great stuff for super cheap while going down through sizes. I'm going to be in the same boat as you here shortly. Feels great, huh?

BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to aamandddaaaahunt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AMy doc has an "at least 1 year rule". Just so you know, you aren't "practically" everyone anymore. Your lifestyle HAS to be different than everyone else's or else you wasted your time, money and perfectly good stomach for nothing. You chose this time in your life, while you are still in college, to get the VSG done, are you sure you were ready for it? I have commented on a post of yours previously, I think eariler this week, and I wonder if you really know what you had done to you. Losing weight and getting healthy even with the VSG is hard and takes work. It is not a magic tool that will make the weight just go away with no effort on your part. The people on this site are here to support, help and encourage each other, not to tear people down. I'm sure you knew the kind of answers you would get when you asked about this, but you can't go getting pissy just because you don't like the answers you got. People answered you honestly. No one wants to see someone do something careless and end up with a leak or other problems. If you only want answers giving you the go ahead to do what you want to do as opposed to doing what you need to or should do, then maybe you should start your post with "If you don't agree with what I'm saying then I don't want to hear it". Just a thought.

Anyone eating cheviche?
And I suppose that I have been lucky. My sleeve hasn't minded anything that I have put down it be it super spicy (I eat Tobasco or some sort of hot sauce on just about EVERYTHING) and it doesn't seem to mind the acidic stuff either. Maybe it would be nice for it to be bothered by something so I am not tempted by certain things but it doesn't and I'm working on growing my will power

Anyone eating cheviche?
I'm glad so many of y'all have had it with no problems! I am 8 weeks out but my surgeon still has me on a restricted diet until at least 12 weeks out. I know most people get released to a "regular" diet at 6 weeks but my surgeon has his on guidelines that he uses. I have eaten it a few times this week and it has been great! What I had was actually made with bass and not with shrimp, and it was oh so good!!!!

Anyone eating cheviche?
I love the stuff and a girl I work with makes it. They grind everything in a meat grinder so the particles in it are super fine. It has only fish, onions, tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, carrots and cucumbers in it. Anyone see anything wrong with it? I'm hoping I'm not fooling myself!

Horrible taste in mouth
Yes my friends, it called ketosis. Not only do you have a bad tastes, I promise you have bad breath as well. You may have nicer people surrounding you than I did (not really, my husband gently told me to brush my teeth LOL!) but I promise the bad breath is there too. It is from not eating carbs. I stayed in ketosis with bad breath and really stinky pee until I went on full liquids and could eat soups with some carbs. I have tried to stay less than 20 gms of carbs most day but usually it is closer to 30 gms a day since surgery and I haven't had any more trouble with it. I don't know if my body finally just caught up or what but the bad taste, bad breath and stinky pee are no longer with me. It will get better, just give it time!

I'm back to my old eating habits ;-(
Remember that eating carbs and sugar will make you crave more carbs and sugar. Get that cycle of eating sweets (at least not sugar free stuff) broken and the cravings will get better. I am a carbaholic and a chocaholic too but I have to choose DAILY, sometimes by the minute, not to let myself fall down those paths again. You can do it!

Smart Phone Apps! Which ones do you use for diet or exercise?
I use MFP and fitbit. I really like them together. We have an aria scale by fitbit too that syncs to MFP, together they keep me on track. I have used Lose it in the past and really like it too but MFP is what I have been using since surgery

Why do people make this commitment, risk their lives on a surgery table and then...
VERY well said!

Ughhh this is fustrating
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to aamandddaaaahunt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AI'm not yelling I just don't want you to do something and then end up with major problems and think to myself that I should have said something. I was worried about the same things that you are as far as my hair falling out. People know me by my hair. I've always had really pretty hair, it has always been one of my favorite and best attributes. I've been extrememly worried about losing it. I wasn't allowed any major protein, not even Protein shakes, until 2 weeks out. If I got a little in some greek yogurt or the Soup I could eat it was okay but otherwise none (and that was only after a full week of clears). Like I said before I am only 8 weeks out but as of yet I haven't noticed any thinning of my hair or any extra hair in my brushes/shower drain. Since I got to start on soft foods at two weeks out I haven't had one day that I didn't get at least 60 grams of protein and most days I get 80-100+ grams in. If your doc wants you to be getting protein in, get it. If he doesn't yet, then don't. You won't go wrong following his guidelines. Trust me, I know it is hard. My doc has a MUCH slower advancement than most do out there but I just keep chugging along. I know how much of a pain waiting can be and how long it makes the weeks seem when you are so looking forward to putting something actually tasty in your mouth. You've got this though!

Gaining weight =(
I fluxuate like that when I hit a stall. My stalls seem to last about 2 1/2 weeks. They usually break without me changing anything that I am doing, of course they usually happen without me changing anything either. Sorry I'm not more help, but know that you aren't alone.

Drinking water; long term prognosis.
When I went in for my two week post op visit I was actually instructed NOT to sip anymore. I was told to drink in large quantities at a time. I can get down a 16-20 oz bottle of Water in less than 20 min easy. I usually have 32 oz in the mornings while I'm getting ready for work over about two hours and that is really taking my time with it (sometimes even forgetting to drink for 30-45 min at a time). Yes you will be able to eat fruit and veggies before getting in 60 gm of Protein in first. I haven't been released to eat red meat yet so I'll let someone with more experience than me answer that one. And I was told to stay away from alcohol for at least the first year. I do know that my NUT does not want me eating and drinking at the same time again, ever. So I'm guessing that would be a no to the wine with dinner but you could have one before dinner after you are far enough out

BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to aamandddaaaahunt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AThe worst thing that could happen is NOT you throwing up! You could end up with a leak and land yourself back in the hospital. Not to mention the things that could go wrong if you do get a leak!! You could seriously hurt yourself by advancing too quickly. You may feel like you know your body better than anyone else, but that was BEFORE your surgeon took out most of your stomach. Your brain hasn't caught up that it isn't all there. You could be having some head hunger. You should really check with your surgeon before adding anything to your diet that he has not approved.

Spouse worried about surgery - afraid I won't be the same
Let me start by saying that I am 8 weeks out today. I am also extremely lucky in that I have a husband who has been 100% supportive of me from the get go. (My parents were not, but that's another story) You ARE going to change. That is the point, isn't it? You WILL BE high mainenance, at least for a little while. BUT all of it is doable. I liked to eat before surgery, I STILL like to eat even after surgery. I am not one of the lucky ones who doesn't think about food, who forgets to eat, and who all of a sudden doesn't love food anymore. I still do, but I can't eat the way that I did before or as much. I am developing good eating habits. I can't eat nearly what I used to. I am finally getting to the stage that I can eat more things and I have more options. Eating out is easier now, I just have to make smart decisions. For example: We ate at Outback Friday night and I had the Seafood Mixed grill with mixed steamed veggies and a sweet potato (okay like two bites of the sweet potato as I saved it for last and that was all I had room for). Now, most of that is in my fridge waiting for at least the next meal if not two meals for me to finish. Saturday night we ate at Longhorn steakhouse, I had the Under 550 cal salmon with steamed veggies and green beans. I finished most of what I brought home for lunch today. It was SUPER YUMMY! Now that I am at a point that I can eat with my family and eat more of what they are eating it is easier. For a while I was cooking supper for myself, something different for my hubby and something else for our son. That was tough but I got through it. I have to concentrate daily on getting my fluids in (its getting easier as the time passes) and getting in my protein. I log everything that I eat in MyFitnessPal. All of that takes a little time and therefore it takes a little time away from my family but they understand. I actually have my husband logging his food too and he has lost almost 20 pounds since I had surgery (He has always been thin but wanted to take off a few pounds that he had added since we got married). We have made this change a family change. Talk to your husband. Let him know what to expect. Keep him informed and hopefully he will come around. This is the best decision I have ever made for myself. I did it for my family too, I want to be around to see my kiddos grow up. I do not think for a second that you will regret this. You may have some times that you wonder what the heck you've done to yourself but those times will pass and you will be so glad you got sleeved. Good luck!

Newbie needs some advice please :)
I say go for it! I think you'll be okay. When I saw my Dr for the first time, everything went really quick. (Long story but it was almost a year when I finally got sleeved) I was glad it did. I was ready. When I made the decision to go ahead with surgery, there was no waiting to make sure I was ready. I had done my homework and knew it was what was best for me. If you are in the same boat I was, get it done in May. Know this though, you will be on liquids for usually two weeks after surgery so you will not be enjoying anything good while at your parents. If y'all are a family of getting together to eat, you may want to wait until July. We went to Hawaii last summer and I made sure that my surgery was scheduled AFTER we went that way I didn't have to do any special diets while we were there.
