I definitely know how you feel. Wait until the day you put on your favorite pajama pants with the elastic waistband and they literally fall off you. Or the day you see your collarbones for the first time since you were a child. Or the day you can cross your legs comfortably. Trust me, when these happen to you (and trust me, they will) you will begin to see yourself skinny in the mirror!

If you trust and respect your surgeon, I suggest that you follow his advice. He has more knowledge experience than we do, and I am sure wants you to succeed at this. I am almost 1 year out and still have a tough time with bread and steak. Your new little stomach is not fully healed. Why push your luck. Also this is your prime and easiest weight loss period. I know its hard to resist, but you can do it. Whatever you decide. I hope you continue to do well.

Potatoes are technically a complex carb, but are treated like a simple carb in your body. Simple carbs are simple to digest, low fiber and offer little value to your body. For this reason, I would classify a potato as a bad carb.

It is hard at first. Everyone has a different frame of reference. Compared to cancer treatment, it was a piece of cake. To me it was hard, but not unbearable. The cancer treatment was painful and I was given not much hope for living let alone successful living. The sleeve came with promise of a better life. With God's help and my own perserverence it has delivered.
I feel "normal". In fact, much more normal than I did when I was lugging the extra 110 pounds around. I can do what "normal" people do now, and even more than they do thanks to my exercise program.
I do not at all feel deprived, I eat what I want to eat. It's just that my brain has adjusted my wants, I eat healthy big and slop very small. I have a nice set of muscles now and want to keep them going and the twinkle in Deb's eye. Muscles get fed, body stays healthy, life is gooder and gooder.

Its a great feeling isn't it? My mom was in the car waiting for me and I passed the car to return the cart to the cart corral. When I returned to the car, she said, I thought I saw someone walking by with your purse. It was me! She didn't recognize me. I have lost 171 pounds and dropped 8 sizes thus far. I will be one year out on May 17. About 35 - 40 more to go. I am so happy I did this. Congrats on your success!

They are good classes to prepare you for your new lifestyle and make you decide whether or not you want to go through with the procedures. Pay lots of attention because all of that info will help you after the procedure once its done its kinda like now what.

WTH! What a nightmare. I hope you are doing better. Such an odd thing. I was not aware it was possible to have a leak 4 months out. Take care of yourself. Glad you were observant.

Sharon's last chance got a reaction from natedinsmoor2 in Second thoughts about surgery ..
I started a lifetime of dieting at about age 13. Seems like I was on some kind of diet more often than not. I just knew I should be able to do this on my own. YES I lost some weight on most of those diets, but never came close to a normal weight. Weight issues and low self esteem put a major damper on my life. I had no social life, never attended school functions, never danced, and never felt good enough. Finally in 1983, at age 59, and more than 300 pounds, I began looking into bariatric surgery. I had started the process when my dad became ill and died. I then proceeded to gain an additional 70 pounds, weighing 374. In 2011, I started seeing a therapist to help me deal with my dad's death and with my food/eating issues. That is the single most important step that helped me not only make a decision about the surgery, but also prepared me to be successful with the surgery. I suggest you find a therapist who specializes in helping people with food/eating/obesity and self esteem issues. My therapist continues to help me dealing with the stresses, diffulties and joys of life after gastric sleeve surgery. I can't advise you whether or not to have the surgery but I truly believe that without some therapy/counseling, successful weightloss will be a very difficult process. I sort of threw my life away, but can finally say at the age of 63, I got this weight thing under control. I have lost 168 pounds in just under 11 months and am well on my way (30 - 50 pounds to go) to a healthy, normal weight for the rest of my life. You have your whole life ahead of you. I wish you enormous success, health and happiness whatever your decision.

Sharon's last chance got a reaction from phutch824 in How many of you recent sleevers are hungry?
I did not feel real hunger till about 4 months out. Now at nearly 11 months out I get truly hungry between each meal. The really great news is that it takes very little to satisfy that hunger. I was resisting Snacks for quite a while as I didn't want to be eating all the time. To be honest I used to be almost afraid of hunger. I have become much better at ignoring hunger. I no longer fear it. Even though it isn't always easy, it is all so worth it, even thru the bad days.
I was sleeved 5/17/12. Highest weight 374; Surgery date 320; current weight 206; dropped 8 sizes, lost 22 inches from my waist, 6 inches from my neck, regained my ability to walk and stand longer than 3 minutes, and gone off most of my medications. I am happier than I ever dreamed, and feel so good.

Sharon's last chance got a reaction from Kyrie in am I being naive? ?
I tell everyone. If I could shout it from the roof tops, I probably would. This surgery has given me my life back. I honestly don't think I would have survived more than a couple of years without surgery and to be honest, I'm not sure I would have wanted to continue living as I was. It hasn't all been easy, but I have lost 168 pounds total including 54 pounds in the couple of months prior to surgery. I can stand and walk again, I'm not afraid of chairs any more, I am off almost all meds. I can put on my socks and tie my shoes with ease. I have dropped 7 - 8 sizes, lost 22 inches from my waist and 6 inches from my neck. I feel so much better physically and emotionally. Seeing a therapist for help dealing with my food issues and other issues, and having this surgery are the best things I've ever done, I can't keep it to myself. As others have said, its a personal decision that each of us must make, and be comfortable with.
