Lap Chole Today
I'm having my gall bladder out today at noon. I'm 16 months post op from sleeve& am down to 135lbs. I'm a little scared I had unexplained blood Loss, multiple transfusions, & was coded with my sleeve (since then no problems). I know this is a simple surgery. My questions for people who have had a lap chole are there any changes you noticed post op? Bowel changes perhaps? Complications? Dietary intolerances? Thanks in advance!

Make your environment conducive to weight loss
What inspiring advice to 'veteran' post-op WLS people!!! The daily choices we make our what determine out long term success, health& happiness. A commitment to yourself to make the healthiest choices at every meal makes all the difference. I'm realizing that now 16 months post op. The struggle to stay away from high caloric, low nutrition food is a constant for me& I'm recommitting myself to healthier choices. Surgery is a battle. Maintenance is the war. Never give up.

Dear Veterans, has your hunger returned?
I'm 16 months post op. Up until the first year I would forget to eat for 8 hrs& be satisfied with tiny meals. Now 16 oz is a small meal& I feel ravenous about every 3-4hrs. I'm on the recommitment plan now after indulging in several non nutritious foods.

Recommitment
I'm with you guys. I'm not sure I've re gained yet. Scale varies about 3 lbs sometimes. I'm technically at goal at 133lbs, 110 lost. No excuses but broke up with my boyfriend, started a new job with some occasionally catty co-workers, & think I'm able to eat more. I see all these skinny people eating like boys & I'm like why not me? I ate a jimmy johns sandwich & chips in 2 sittings. It was 1300 additional calories I did not need. I can't do as they do. The white carb is not my BFF anymore, my health is. I'm with u guys. I'm getting a lap chole on 3/18& thinking about doing pre op diet again but am concerned that vitamin e in protein shakes may cause bleeding ( nearly bled out after sleeve without explanation). Stay strong, Sleevers!!!

How long do you wait to drink after eating?
My recommendations were the 30 mi before & after. I stop fluids 15 min before eating & don't drink until 30 min after eating. That's what is comfortable for me. It's a big time constraint factor. I work 12 hr sometimes hectic shifts so I like to get in half my fluids before I leave for work in case I don't have time to hydrate.

What's your favorite go to snacks?
Pregnant pickle: pickle with laughing cow light wrapped in lower sodium ham. Or pepperocini peppers with laughing cow wrapped in turkey. Caprese salad tho i always want to eat all the fresh Mozzerella. Watermelon & feta salad. Lettuce wraps with deli meat & light mayo, tomato or Caesar drsg& chicken,or blt style. When I have a sweet tooth I microwave a fiber one brownie& put whipped cream on ~105 cal. Edamame. Edamame or regular hummus with fennel, red pepper or snap peas to dip in. Joseph's flaxseed wrap with some cheese in it. If I can't think of what to eat I usually just eat tuna with mustard, mayo, & pepperocini peppers to see if I'm actually hungry& satiate my hunger with protein first. I do love those 80 cal Greek yogurt-I got strawberry cheesecake & banana cream today.

after the surgery
High protein shakes ~30 g of protein a piece. & stay hydrated tho & don't best yourself up about your protein intake too much. I tried incorporating meals when my doctor told me too but if I had stayed on fulls longer I wouldn't have almost dehydrated self enough to go to the hospital & would have had more initial weigh loss. I was so full after an ounce meal I couldn't eat for 90 min. As for the fatigue, some people recover slowly. Keep up on your nutrition!

The sleeve has made me a snacker.
I'm over a year out& recently have felt that if I don't eat every 3 hrs at least I feel starved& hypoglycemic. I feel for u about the snacking. I can eat little bites of high calorie foods frequently& in between meals now. Gone are the days when 1oz of minced crab would fill me up to capacity for hours! Good eating habits are the best weapon. The rapid gastric emptying article is interesting--wonder if this is along term complication.

What is your biggest vice?
Well now I want to try chicken chips(&know what they are). My vices: the 3 C's. cheese chocolate Carbs I eat cheese at almost every meal. I think I'm killing my gallbladder with it & the cholesterol concerns me. I can't say no to chocolate. I'm offered it all the time. Carbs? Crispy chips. Candy. Pasta. I'm in maintenance & trying to moderate my eating.

Pasta?!
I eat my protein serving 1st. Pasta was like a fetish to me pre-sleeve. Can't tell you how many times I salivated over it. Now, most pasta, even with sauce, tastes so bland I'm not interested in eating it.

What to bring to a potluck
Spinach artichoke dip in a crock pot: 1 bag frozen spinach 1-2 jars marinated artichoke 1 container Greek yogurt 1 8 oz cream cheese 1/2 c asiago or Parmesan Use fennel or red peppers as chips. Or just chips. Shrimp w/cocktail sauce. $7 at Walmart. Cocktail weenies and/or meatballs in BBQ sauce. Somebody made it with grape jelly& ketchup as a sauce & it was oddly one of the most delicious things I ever had. Pinwheels: low carb tortilla, spread laughing cow any flavor, bacon bits, tomato& deli meat, optional pickles then roll up & slice. Crack dip/Rotel dip ( my fave, kinda high calorie): block of velveeta, Rotel, & hamburger or ground turkey. I add chopped jalapeño. W/chips. Mm I love my crockpot. I'm a potluck vet. Have one once a week at a work.

Has anyone tried the unjury cheese sauce?
I liked it. It got me truth liquid phase post op because I'm a cheese addict. You have to find the consistency u like & blend well. I sometimes put that & some nacho sauce on spaghetti squash.

Dating post-op..does it get easier?
I started online dating again. I totally agree about the face to face meeting ASAP. You know if someone is a yes or no. It was easier when ppl rejected me for my weight, I could say they were shallow or close minded. Now I feel rejected for my age (30) & flab. It's hard to have explain my body to people, like I have extra skin, stretch marks, droopiness, & my boobs are empty. I met someone& started dating, having fun, but he says he doesn't want a "serious" relationship; no future. I'm not settling for anything less. We all just have to keep looking for what we deserve& we deserve it all--the love, respect, & faithfulness.
