I have had more than my share of cruelty starting at over 400 pounds but I think I accidentally hurt someone. A year before I got my surgery I worked with a lady who was also big. After our training I didn't see her for awhile by the time I did I had already had my surgery and was super excited. I saw her in the ladies room and she had lost a lot of weight. I told her she looked great and asked how much she lost. She told me over a hundred pounds. I was so happy for her and then i told her I just got the lap band and I was so excited to be losing weight. I never asked her how she lost weight and she never volunteered. I think she thought I assumed she got surgery so instead of having someone to relate to she won't talk to me anymore and looks the other way when I see her. I don't know if she was mad cause she did it the old fashioned way and was insulted or she did it the same way and didn't want her secret out but it made me sad the way she blew me off

Goodwill has become my new best friend. I've gotten so many amazing deals there. some things are new with tags still on. I didn't want to waste money by buying new as I shrank, but when pants and tops are $5 or less it isn't a problem. When I out shrink my new smaller clothes I can donate them back to Goodwill.

I take pill Vitamins no problem, I take a multi d3 and b1. After a year on multi I was d3 and b1 deficient. Make sure they do your follow up bloodwork on time soooo important !

You are just like me. I lost 45 and gained 40 back! I am starting over now. It was 6 years ago when I was banded and I am going to begin all over again! I will embrace the band and go get my fill this week. I have loaded up on Protein Shakes and have an exercise buddy. I plan on asking for an aggressive fill to get me off heavy foods for a while and give my gut a rest! Lets do it together!

So a few weeks ago I posted that I would be taking a business trip this week and was hoping that I had lost enough weight to no longer need the seat belt extender. I am happy to say that I DID NOT NEED IT! Not only that but there was 5-6 inches of belt left! I usually ask the flight attendant before finding my seat for the extender. I made the decision to not ask this time. I felt pretty sure that I might not need it but I was prepared to ask for it if I needed to. I sat down and easily put it on. I just sat there and cried. With tears rolling down my face, I called my husband to share my excitement with him. He just said over and over, "I am so proud of you.". I flew back this morning with such comfort. I used the tray in front of me for my beverage (couldn't do that before) and even crossed my legs for a while. I am floating on a cloud!

Hey everyone! I got my band back in June 2012. I had never had any surgery before and wasn't sure how I would feel afterwards. I unfortuntly had all the side effects ie. Constipation (from the pain meds), horrible shoulder pain, and so on. I stuck to my liquids then mushies but didn't really lose any weight during that period. Only 1 pound when I went to my first fill. Then no weight loss till i got up to the 5.5cc range. I was scared to tell anyone I had the procedure because I had no results for months. Then as soon as I felt a good amount of restriction, the weight has been falling off ever since!!! I love my decision to get the surgery and I am finally happy with my body. Still have a lot to lose but the mini miracules are amazing, crossing my legs, no need for an afternoon nap, no crazy cravings/got to eat now feelings, fitting back into old clothes! If I have any advice to give to new bandsters is to not get discouraged in the first few months after surgery with slow to 0 weight loss, a lot of people including myself didn't start losing until the 5.5cc-6cc restriction.

i dont regret my $30,000 band.
it gave me my life back.
and if complications occur, i will deal
but now, i am living and i am grateful.

but not everyone does.

I'm sorry you had problems, but it's obvious something was wrong with your band from the day it was placed. Maybe it's in the wrong place, maybe your anatomy simply doesn't work well with the band, I don't know. But I do know the fact you've been living on slider foods since the first month being banded means something is wrong.
I might also add you have a 4cc band. There's a reason those are no longer used in the United States- because the company said there were way too many complications with them and now only approve the larger bands. Again, that is completely not your fault, however it stands to reason that band was too small for you from the beginning hence forever being too tight even when empty.
I hope you find what you're looking for after it's removed and I mostly hope you find good health. But please don't come on here acting like everyone who is banded is making a mistake.
We're not you and the statistics are in our favor, especially with the new bigger bands. I've lost almost 150 pounds in 9 months and I couldn't be happier. I never PB, I've never vomited, and it's extremely rare that I get stuck. In fact, I can and do still eat whatever I want without any problems. Some of us are extremely happy and successful with our bands.

This might be TMI here, but...
I wasn't sure my husband would support me, but when I brought up the issue, and told him I wanted the surgery because my weight was inhibiting my ability to enjoy sex, he was listening. When I told him I really wanted to jump on top of him naked and make love in broad daylight and feel great about it like we did as newlyweds, he warmed up to the idea....quickly. No, it wasn't because he wanted me to look different, it was because he wanted me to feel great about being naked with him and making love more freely. Now, just 28 pounds lighter and 2 months post surgery, I enjoy sex much more and it makes him enjoy it more too because he knows I feel better about myself already (and the 28 lbs barely shows, I just feel better in my mind).
Of course there were other reasons as well - reasons why we both ended up seeing the surgery as a good idea for me, and he was amazingly supportive once he got his mind around it. Nevertheless, if sex has been a challenge for you, as it can be for so many of use when we don't like our bodies, maybe that is something you can bring up with him because it will improve his quality of life too.

Are you nuts? I suggest you do your own homework before spreading fear and false information.
Statistically speaking, only around 8% of Lap Bands fail due to complications by no fault of the patient. The rest, and the case you see here most of the time, is because the patient went into the surgery uneducated on the facts and ended up causing their own complications. Over eating, eating around the band, walking around for months with a band too tight because they are trying to get the band to do something it's not meant to do, drinking carbonation regularly. The list goes on and on.
Then there's the people who don't lose weight because they expect the band to perform magic. They continue to make horrible food choices then are baffled why they aren't losing. The band is a tool, not magic, if you don't do the work and make the necessary lifestyle changes you will fail.
Statistically speaking, the Lap Band also has the lowest death rate and rate of complications of any weight loss surgery.
Regret? I've lost 132 pounds in about 7 months. I look and feel better than I have in my entire adult life. I got my life back and I am happy- all because I chose the Lap Band. That's not hype, that's facts, facts my medical data can prove.

It's life changing. My husband was scared too. Right before surgery he tried to get me to walk out. He went to the seminar and everything but he was scared but once I had the surgery and the weight started coming off he was right there with me happy I did it. He was never unsupportive but he said he would rather have me fat than dead. The fat will kill you anyway, it's just slower ....If he loves you he will get on board, maybe it will take living through the surgery to get him there but he will. If not maybe he is that person that would hold you back because of their own insecurities and you may find your new life will need to extend to marriage to. It does happen. But bettering yourself should not be thrown away because someone else is insecure. Not loving ourselves is part of how we got here, learning to is how we find our way out good luck hun.
