  1. I didn't do this so I could never eat again :) Most people aren't allowed Pasta until their stomach is healed so that shouldn't be a concern. Some people tollerate it better than others. My family goes to spaghetti night every Wednesday at my friends local restaurant. I have meat sauce with pasta (I can only eat about 1/3 cup pasta with some sauce...total 1/2 cup food) and I love it. I never go over my carb limits and I also plan it so I meet my Protein goals.

And I have it with a nice glass of red wine :P

This should be life with the sleeve. Kale pasta? BLEH (sorry but umm BLEH)

If I have something like spaghetti carbonara at home I do make it with whole wheat pasta which I enjoy. Still not much, but I enjoy it on occasion and I'm losing weight just fine. :)

As usual Iggychic is the voice of reason :) I have pasta, I have wine, I have whatever I want. I can only eat 3-4 ounces max anyway, so that much of anything isn't going to kill me. I get all my protien in and my labs are perfect. I am below goal weight. So if I feel like taking a couple of bites of pasta, or bread, or whatever it is, I do. If I had wanted to count and obsess over every bite I would have just stayed on Weight Watchers. As with anything in life, balance and moderation is the key. (This of course does not apply to those not yet allowed to eat solids or those with carb sensitivities.)

  2. i do not feel the effects more' date=' i actually feel them less than prior.[/quote']

I'm the same as Iggychick, the effect is far far less than before. I have found that Regardless of the subject she comments on you can always rely on her being balanced and intelligent in her common sense remarks. I drink when I feel like it and have no ill effects. As a matter of fact, i hit my goal weight today. I didn't go through all of this to constantly count, worry and stress over everything I put in my mouth. I could have stayed on Weight Watchers for the rest of my life if I had enjoyed that.

  3. Now hat you mention it though' date=' you're right. I haven't seen a lot of images or stories from 6m+ Down the road from dr Garcia. Hm.

Now you've got me curious. :). If I come up with anything, I'll post it.

I'm about 95% sure that I'm goin w dr. Garcia too. Do you have to wait until feb/march too? Maybe we can be sleeve buddies.[/quote']

I was sleeved with dr Garcia on July 2'nd. I'm down 75 pounds and highly recommend him.

  4. I don't actually own any bras without underwires, do you think I should invest in one or can I make do with the underwire bras? They're so expensive, I'd hate to spend 50$ on something that I'll wear a week and then never again. I work from home so I don't even really need to wear a bra when I'm at home.

I was thinking of bringing some saline nasal spray, I'm afraid that without Water it'll get dry, dry mouth, dry nose! Hopefully they let me rinse my mouth out a lot, I think the dryness will be the worst part for me.

I'm bringing my iPad and I'll make sure it has a lot of tv shows and movies on it, and I also have Netflix so if the wi-fi is fast enough then I can watch that too.

No need to buy a "real" bra, just go to Walmart or Target and pick up a soft, nylon tank or sports bra type for less than $10. I took my Ahh Bra which is made of lycra/nylon and it was perfect. Just make sure that the band that goes under your girls is soft and not too tight, one of your incisions is most likely going to be very near there.

  5. Remember that you can't lift anything on your way home so the smaller the bag the better. I took one small carry on and had everything I needed plus some. You are provided with toiletries, lip balm, mouth swabs, etc so no need to lug that stuff around. I took a couple of herb tea bags and Crystal Light packets and used them all. The one thing I was most greatful that I took was my mini travel pillow, it sure did help get comfy in those hospital beds, to press and brace my tummy when getting up out of bed, and I used it under the seatbelt in the care and plane which was a lifesaver.

  6. I eat whatever looks good, just much less-- as you plan to do. This works for me cause I have a SLEEVE OF STEEL and can eat anything. Some others are not as lucky. Hopefully you will be lucky like me!

I am the same way, nothing bothers me. When we go out to eat I order whatever I want, eat 4 bites of the protien first, then a bite of veggie and a bite of starch. That does it for me and the rest comes home. I can usually get 3 to 4 meals out of one restaurant meal. Sometimes if I like what hubby has ordered I just ask for an extra plate and take a few bites off of his. We eat out often and I have had zero issues. Just like eating anything anywhere, protien first and you can't go wrong.

  7. I went with successfully slimmer to book with dr Garcia. I was originally scheduled with dr Almanza. Both the coordinators there had their surgeries with Dr Almanza without issue' date=' but had no problem scheduling me with Dr Garcia instead when I said I would be more comfortable in a hospital setting for the first couple days.

They are very nice and get back to me quickly with answers to all my questions. Only thing I wonder about is the pre op diet. I was told only 5 days for Almanza and also 5 days for Garcia. My BMI is 43.7.

I just wonder if anyone going through alma has been told 5 days. I am thinking I may try to do the full 2 weeks anyway. They sent me paperwork with a 14 day diet, but said only do the last 5 days. I don't want to get there and have some need to cancel or postpone it.[/quote']

I had only a 2 day pre-op diet required by Dr Garcia. Surgery was 7/2 and I'm down 60 pounds. I highly recommend Dr Garcia and his staff.

  8. Hi! I am having surgery with Dr. Garcia on September 24th.. I am super nervous considering I have never had surgery before.. How was Dr. Garcia and the hospital? Who was your coordinator? Anything you could tell me would help put me at ease that I am making the right decision :) Thanks

I highly recommend Dr Garcia. I had major complications (not due to the surgery) and they absolutely saved my life. I don't feel this would have been the case if I had not been in a fully equiped hospital with an amazing staff of specialists right there at my bedside. On-site lab, radiology, etc made the difference between life and death for me.

The hospital is small, yes, and very modest by American standards. However it is spotlessly clean and they have all the equipment and most importantly, specialists in every field (cardiology, internist, etc) to handle anything that may come up. If you are looking for a luxury hospital Mexico isn't a good choice for you. If you are concerned with no-frills, excellent care, Dr Garcia is a wise choice in my opinion.

Dr Garcia's support staff (coordinator, personal assistant, driver) are all excellent, and I can't speak highly enough about his staff of warm, caring nurses. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me directly.

  9. In a Tervis Tumbler' date=' a lot of ice and a straw. I started using a straw at about two weeks, it is the only rule I broke, but I could drink a lot more using a straw!!! Now days, I forego Water except when I'm out....I drink a ton of tea and about four cups of coffee per day. I was scared of dehydration, I watch the color of the Water in the toilet.....it's somewhere between light and clear. I'm ok with it![/quote']

Can't live without my Tervis Tumbler! It keeps my drinks cold for a long time, doesn't have that plastic taste or feel and has a great top that I use when I take it in the car with me. I'm never without it.

  10. Do you both find that you don't need the Protein shakes to meet your nutrional requirements after you start eating solids? Or do you just not do them?

What does an average meal look like for you now that you are post-op and eating solids?

I'm 8 weeks out and have maybe 2 shakes a week. After surgery I could no longer stand the taste of any of my shakes so I just use unjury unflavored in some almond milk with a handful of strawberries.

A typical meal now is about 2 ounces of Protein - chicken breast, sliced turkey, greek yogurt, cheese - usually 4 times a day. I absolutely cannot eat more than 2 ounces at a time. During the day I sip on an iced glass of half Isopure and half diet lemonaide to keep my protein up.

  12. I was worried about you since you mentioned you have low pain tolerance. Mine pretty low as well. So comforting to know you feeling well. Hugs to you.

Yes I'm doing great, minimal gas, no nausea and a touch of soreness at the incisions. Water is going down with no trouble, I've had 16 oz this morning.
