takingaleap reacted to PdxMan in Can you crush non chewable iron, multi vitamin, b12 & biotin?
As Chelly mentioned, B12 is a sublingual, meaning it is put under the tongue. B12 is one of those Vitamins which is absorbed in the stomach, not the intestines like most nourishment is. The removal of 85% of sleever's stomach's or the small pouch used by pass limits the amount of surface area for which the B12 absorption process can occur. I have read that lap-band folks do not usually suffer from B12 issues which would make sense since they have the entirety of their stomach, so normal B12 absorption can take place. If they are having B12 issues, they either had them pre-op or are not consuming foods in a quantity which can satisfy the body's B12 needs.
Underneath the tongue just happens to be tissue which is able to absorb B12, so that is why you see B12 as sublinguals. You are not to chew or crush these, but just leave them sitting under the tongue until they naturally dissolve.

You can find liquid or chewable anything pretty much now days. I imagine crushing Iron would taste pretty horrible. I found Iron chews at Vitamin Shoppe, as well as liquid. The liquid tasted really bad although it did help keep my iron up and I am severely anemic. Good luck.

Hi everyone I was sleeved Thursday May 1. I'm almost 7 days out. So far so good. I'm glad I can be a resource for the "newbies". It's a daunting process but I'm so so happy at 13 pounds lighter! I'm feeling strong and confident. My advice - follow your plan, eat slow and don't get hung up on the numbers - we will all get there!

Not an unusual reaction...I called it my last hurrah! Ate Ben & Jerry's the night before surgery, which was not a very good idea. When I had surgery, we didn't do a pre-op diet. Just get right back on the bandwagon. Good luck to you on your surgery!

The pre-op diet is strict and it's a struggle for most, considering it's generally a week to two weeks of liquids and purees prior to surgery. It seems to me that what you're feeling is perfectly normal. The closer it gets to your surgery date the more stress you are feeling. Just keep reminding yourself that you're doing this to regain control of your health and your life. You wouldn't be human if you didn't stumble once in a while. So, spend a day or two getting your 'food binges' out of your system and then set yourself on the straight and narrow. The end result will be so worth the struggles. I wish you the best of luck!

Hi I just want to say to you you are in good company. You are amongst peers who have been there and done even worse lol. The important thing to remember is that every day brings with it the opportunity to start over again. You will be just fine, refocus your effort, stop beating yourself up about doing what you did, and concentrate on your purpose for being here, to have the surgery and kick start the beginning of your new life!!! You are a beautiful young lady who's ready to transform. Let it happen and if you stumble along the way we are here for you. We will support you, encourage you, and give you the boost you need to get you back on track. I pray that you will find your purpose and receive the strength needed to pave the way to a new you, God bless.

Not only does running get a lot easier but now that it is summer, what about swimming? I swim year around but its also easier on the joints and you get an upper body workout also.

So happy for you! I know exactly how it is, but now after 4 years I am happy I did not follow my first instincts. We are happier than ever! I have a lovely family! I do not have many 'friends' now but I am more happy like this. I wish you all the best and be patient !

I love the show (My 600 Pound Life) -- it's one of the reasons I'm having surgery now -- I never want to let it get HALF that bad!
The Penny episode really p*#sed me off. That woman was living in a magical land far, far away from reality. I'm sure the doctor does the complete psych evals, etc., before the surgery, but from what I understand, this doctor is one of the few who will operate on someone of that size because of the risks. A couple of things that really chapped my hide:
    1) When the paramedics came to get her to take her for a follow-up visit (because she couldn't get in a car) she told one of them she thought she had lost about 230 pounds. How far out of this world are you if you think you lost over 200 when in reality you haven't lost a pound. How out of touch with reality are you???
    2) When she made the comment about being there more for her son than working mothers, I almost threw the remote through the TV. I've been a working mom to 3 kids for 23 years now and I've been there for my kids all that time. Attending school events and conferences, standing through hundreds of hours of sports events, attending band concerts and football games. How can she think she's being a great mom to her son when she can't get up and fix him a meal or attend his kindergarten graduation???
    3) Towards the end of the show, she made a comment that she is sure her son will be proud of how hard she's worked. Get real -- kids are basically self-centered and worry about how everything affects them personally. He'll get to the point that he will be completely embarrassed by his mother's size and how bedridden she is.
Anyway -- it's OBVIOUS I put too much emotional energy into this particular episode and need to focus on some real, important things in life. But, at least ranting about it burned a few calories with my fingers typing so fast and furious!!!

Sister, I understand! I was a bridesmaid 5 times before I got married. It's what you do when you're in your twenties. You buy dresses you'll never wear again, sometimes for friends who don't stay friends. Your 30's will be about different things. Friends get jealous over babies (those who can't conceive can get jealous), houses (I'm do glad to have moved out of this because whose buying what kind of house and where is exhausting). I can honestly say that in my forties, my friends (and my family) are so very important. But it's truly evolved. You're on a fantastic journey. Remember: The best revenge is a life well lived! Deck yourself out in that bridesmaid dress and have THE best time at that wedding. Happiness is beautiful! I bet you will glow and steal her show!

Try giving her the benefit of the doubt as she is likely all wrapped up in her wedding planning. And I agree...looking for bridesmaids dresses is not the time to call her out on anything.
Having said that however....I would suggest when you come out of the dressing room and see that you look spectacular...you should say loudly and forcefully....I looook faabulous in this dress!
I know...it's not how we roll. Most of us are so overwhelmed by how we look, that we sit in the dressing room or stand in front of the mirror and cry...and the poor saleslady has no idea what's going on.
But if you acknowledge your success loud and clear, there's no way she can avoid it.
Let us know how it goes, OK? I for one am mighty curious.

takingaleap reacted to AvaFern in Does running get easier?
Running does get easier! I started running in high school because I had to for sports, but as an adult I kept running because it gave me an hour a day where no one could bother me. I fluctuated for years and when I was largest, running was a nightmare. My feet hurt, my knees hurt, everything hurt! I'm still pretty big, but now I can run at a decent pace for 3-5 miles without feeling like I'm going to die (unless I intentionally pick up the pace and push harder). Running is a love/ hate kind of thing. You don't really look forward to going for the daily run, but there isn't much that makes me feel better than a nice hard run, and when it's done- you burned a few hundred calories in the process!
Something important though that someone else mentioned- get fitted for the right shoes. I have one flat foot (weird right?) and running became so much more enjoyable when I finally bought a good pair of shoes a few years ago that are designed for flat feet.
    Good luck!
