July Sleevers
The 14 day liquid diet is difficult, I'll be honest. But hardly impossible. Just take it one day at a time. Even one meal at a time if that works better for you. The key is to drink ALL the Protein shakes you're supposed to have, use the sf Jello, sf popsiscles, etc. and drink plently of water/Crystal Lite. I discovered the low fat, low sodium chicken broth in the evening is a real treat to look forward to. Most importantly it's only 14 days all aimed to ensure a safer surgery and easier recovery. You CAN do it!! G.

I'm a 2 1/2 year survivor of breast cancer. My husband asked why I wasn't angry when I got my diagnosis and I told him it only meant God had a different plan for my life. This was the way He would prepare me to serve Him in a way I couldn't before. I fought the disease every step of the way to get a chance to serve that purpose. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers every day, sweetie. Please keep us posted. (((HUGS)))

July Sleevers
Glad to hear it, Patrick. That's exactly what happened to me. Bit down, woke up, all over. My throat was a little scratchy the next day but hardly noticeable. @klizanich - edg is esophagogastroduodenoscopy or upper intestinal endoscopy. It's a pre op procedure where they look at the structures from your esophagus to the first portion of the small intestine to identify any abnormalities. This is one of the clearances for surgery. G.

July Sleevers
Starting day 4 of all liquid pre-op. Better? Yes! Good? Not even. But I continue to lose weight so I'm trying not to whine as well as trying not to strangle anyone. I went to a Zumba class last night and it was so much fun. But I'm not sure I've ever been so tired. And with no Advil to literally ease my pain, I'm pretty achy today. G.

Sleeved This Past Monday-Home Terrified Today
All good advice here. I would just stress to get your liquids in so you don't end up in the ER. Sip, sip, sip! Also, take that Welburtin NOW! I'm on an anti-depressant for hot flashes but I learned quickly (even though I was warned sternly) you CANNOT suddently stop taking them. If I'm even late with my anti-depressant, my head starts to spin and my thoughts are bizarre. You've got too many other stress going now to not have that reinforcement. BIG HUG! to you. You deserve it. G.

Nervous About Insurance Approval..help!
I had a BMI of 40+ 4 out of 5 years. But the year I was down was when I received chemo for breast cancer. Even though my requirements don't state it, the surgery coordinator also sent proof of my sleep apnea and my hypertension as co-morbidities. I was approved in about a week. G.

Blood Clot
I'm going to be sleeved with Dr. Kim at Forest Park July 9th. Did they give you a shot of heparin the stomach before your surgery? I'm very happy to hear you're ok. It pays to be aware and speak up.

Moving On To Phase 2?
Have either of you tried baby food? Its on my list and I thought it's probably milder on the tummy than things I might cook and puree. Not only that, it's just heat and eat!

Honesty Vs. Lying About The Surgery
Really enlightening to read the different approaches here! I've struggled with this because I am a VERY private person. I told my boss since I will be out of work and she had the RNY years ago! I told my former boss because she's a great friend and was very successful with WW where I wasn't. I told my closest co-worker because she's a nurse. Her reaction was cautionary but positive. I told the co-worker who would be covering for me because she's a good friend, and I told ONE of my two daughters because she flat out asked me. And the last person I told was my husband. He tried for an hour to talk me out of it. Now 12 days before my surgery he says he's shocked I finally took action to get this under control. Uh. Ok. You would have thought it was his idea! I'm not comfortable not telling my best friends, but I need a little room until after the procedure. I'll probably quote your doctor for awhile. As many others have said. Do what makes you comfortable. G.

Small Rant
Congratulations! When I read your post, my mouth dropped open. You are doing GREAT! I'm glad you posted this because I haven't told my mother either, and because she lives in another state, I will probably be 6 months post op before I do. I love her madly but she can be rather "disapproving" I'll be interested in hearing how others handle this. I sure don't know how to! Continued success to you G.

What Will Happen If I Don't Follow The 2 Week Preopp Diet?
So here's a unique perspective (at least I hope I'm the only one.) I stuck to my 14-day pre op diet without one failure at any time. Yes, I was very tired, very grumpy at times, but motivated to give this my all. Arrived for surgery and, because of the anesthesiologists, was not able to be intubated until my esophagus was quite inflammed. I was given steroids, and because of that, my surgeon cancelled my surgery. I was devasted! All my perfection for nothing. I guess I don't control EVERYTHING My surgeon advised me while I waited for surgery to be rescheduled, to drink Protein shakes all day and have a "small, healthy dinner like Lean Cuisine." So I decided I would COOK healthy meals for my husband and me. At first I ate small portions of my healthy meals. But as time went on, my healthy meals became less healthy and my portions became larger. *sigh* I guess I need a sleeve. So yesterday I started the 14-day countdown again with the liquid diet. I'm still motiviated to stick strictly to the plan get the best results, but not for another solid 14 days. I'm having a cheeseburger at the race track with my girls this Friday, and lunch with my Sunday school class this Sunday. All my other days will be perfect and my surgery and recovery will be as they should. There's no tragedy in planned moderation. In fact, it's a lot less stressful. Excuse me. I'm on a liquid diet and nature is calling! G.

Wow! Soo Pissy!
Yup, I'm on day two also. But this is my second round. My first surgery was cancelled when I was given steroids before my surgery. Long story. Yesterday I was not a happy camper. But when I weighed this morning, my stall was broken and I was down 2.8 pounds! I'm in a much better mood today. I know from the last round this does work as far as weight loss. At the end I was ready to choke my husband, but that was the end so it was ok. We can do this!!! We will succeed P.S. I work at home so it's easier for me to avoid face to face contact during the day.

$2,000. Copay...do You Have To Pay It All Upfront?
The only person who can answer this definitely is the insurance coordinator in your doctor's office. I met my deductible but then owed a 20% coinsurance. They asked for it up front and I was able to pay. If the hospital also wants 20%, I'll ask for a payment paln. They will often work with you but you'll need to ask first. Good luck! G.
