I think it's good to eat in moderation and not deny ourselves, because treating our new lifestyle like a temporary diet full of "good" and "bad" foods isn't feasible forever.
That said, I also think it's important that we control our food choices instead of letting food control us.
I think sweets like you're talking about only help us do one thing: crave more sweets. Empty calories are to be avoided for the most part. Because the truth for most of us is that the surgery wasn't necessary solely because of our food choices - it's also due to the food habits we've built over the years. Mindless snacking, indulging cravings, eating because it's the thing to do during the holidays, eating because we're bored, eating while we're emotional - these things are all habits we need to address and break for long term success if we want to live life at goal without living like we're on a restrictive diet. Couple poor food choices with poor food habits and you have a recipe for disaster.
You've acknowledged that you're indulging the urge to snack on lesser-quality foods. Now shift that snack to a higher quality food until you can control the urge to snack completely. There's nothing wrong with a small bite between meals - but making good food choices 90% of the time is what allows us to indulge for the other 10% and you risk throwing all of that off when you indulge regularly.
Figuring out why we eat when we eat is an important part of overcoming obesity. Our stomachs were not the only part of the problem, so work on this and start changing these habits now so that you can reach goal as a happier and healthier person all around. You'll be at far less risk for regain in the future if you invest time in yourself now.
    Good luck,
    ~Cheri

I was sleeved by Dr Garcia on Oct 27. I went thru Alma at Ready4Achange and had a great experience. There are several forums on here where people like me have given a detailed account of their experiences with Dr Garcia and his team at Mi Doctor Hospital. There are also reviews and accounts with the 2 coordinator services as well. I was VERY impressed with ready4achange and the attention I received from the company. I traveled to TJ alone and had a great experience. I never once felt weird about any aspect of my whole trip.
If anyone has questions, feel free to PM me.
    Good Luck!

    Hello everyone,
Its been a long long long while since I have logged in. Things have been hectic but going great.
Just for review, Im Kisha from MD. Had my surgery on May 22, 2012 with Dr. Fernando Garcia. My experience was wonderful from the moment I stepped foot in Mexico.
Starting weight was 216. Goal weight is 145.... current weight 151!!!!! Only 4 months out and I am almost at my goal. Life has changed so much and is going great as a non-obese person. I am now wearing a medium top, medium dress (depending on the store) or size 10, and in pants, also depending ont he store, size 11 or 12. My feet have even shrunk. 7.5 now.
I just want to say anyone considering mexico and Dr. Garcia.... you can't go wrong. They have the best care and Dr. Garcia is the best. If I had to do it all over again... I would... without a second thought. I am happy to answer any questions anyone may have!!!1
some pictures!!!! I dont really have many before picture because I hated taking pictures... but I have tons of after...because the camera loves me now.... or should I say, I love myself now.... sorry for the side ways pictures...I am just too lazy to rotate!

Im doing good! the only thing thats been keeping me worried is that my insicions still are not completely heald up. 2 of the 5 are but the last 3 (the bigger of the 5) are almost heald but still got maybe a week or so to go. At this point i have no regrets or complants the service was VERY good. I schedualed with Alma with Ready 4 a Change. to be real honest i was sooo scared when they told me I was headed in for surgery within the next 20 minutes that I started crying my eyes out and told my husband that it was time for us to leave mexico and go back home to Alaska, but by the time they came back to wheel me in, I was ready. They were very comforting, and i am soooo soooo sooooooooo happy i did it! I am a complete baby when it comes to pain, and to my suprize, I really didnt have much pain at all! I did not use the pack of gas x strips that i brought with me - but i have heared these work wonders.... I was annoyed to walk, but i did it, even that did not hurt it was more that i was just tired. The staff was very friendly and attentive. So far NO complications that i have encounterd I still need to follow up with my PCP, but as of today I am 4 week and 3 days post op and I am SOOO happy about the weight loss. My heaviest recorded weight was 331 lbs, I was 315 the day i started my preop (2 weeks preop diet) , surgery day I weighed at 298 lbs and as of yesturday morning I am at 273 lbs. I have been adding more foods into my diet, at first I was on the liquids for about a week when i got home, then to full liquids, for the second week, 3rd week soft foods as of now, my forth week I still drink 1 or 2 protien drinks, string cheese, Soup, popsicals, deli meet, oatmeal, yogurt, eggs, turkey sausage (chewed up really well), mashed potatos, oooooh and my favorite is the rotisserie chicken i found at Fred Meyers or Carrs/Safeway (also chewed very well) I could not even think about pureeing meat so.... my only problem now is that I am constintly looking for different soft foods to try! I get soo excited that im able to starting eating food again! My recovery has been a blessing! I still try to be carful with the lifting and I have not yet been cleared for full workouts yet but in time I will start to get more of that in So far this has been a good experience! Good luck to you and CONGRATES on getting your date!!!

Discharge- Dr.velasco came in the morning to check on me, and discharged me out of the hospital, she went over the diet with me, explained how to take my medicine, and gave me a goody bags as they call it , with my medicine , gatorades and Water along with a copy of all of my medical records. Melissa then took my to the 1st floor to wait for our shuttle (me and other patients) and explained to us that anything that we needed to call her or Rosie, and she put her business cards in the bag as well as a phone list of all of the doctors. That ease my mind once again because I felt that I could get in touch with any of them if I needed them. she took a picture of us. and we were taken back to the Marriott.
thanks for sharing!!! my surgery is thursday! 09/20/12! I am soo sooo nervious! I cant beleive how close this is! I was wonding if he could give me a dvd of my surgery or pictures of the part of my tummy they remove, i know its gross but i wonder if he will still do it....

Don't we feel better and calmer now?
I have to be honest, if anyone had ever suggested to me that I needed/need counseling, I would have been personally offended and probably even angry. I probably would have demanded to know what their credentials are to be telling me I need counseling. Heck, I worked in behavioral health care for 13 years, but even then, I don't feel qualified or confident that I would gain enough information from reading a couple of posts on a message board from someone to recommend they get counseling.
But, that is me and my opinion. I respect your opinions and am happy to discuss them without attacking anyone personally.
