  1. It will change. For the surgery to be successful, it has to change. For your new tool to work, your whole mindset has to change. I felt the same way you did at first, now ten months later I WISH I could go back to my small portions!! Now I am able to eat more, I tolerate pretty much everything I eat, and the weight loss has slowed down. My advice to you, take full advantage of the first six months post surgery. Embrace them. Teach yourself to be satisfied with a small amount of food, teach yourself to sop before feeling stuffed, teach yourself to eat well and make wise choices. By month eight, the restriction from your stomach will be less. So be sure you have created a good pattern by then.

At first going out did feel like a waste of time. I didn't see a point in going to dinners and events that involved food. But you know what, I enjoyed food enough. I enjoyed eating too much. Life got easier once I stopped regretting the things that was keeping me at almost 350 lbs. Trust me when I say, once the weight starts coming off, the last thing you will be thinking about is food :)

  2. Good luck tomorrow! Walk as soon as you can, and as much as you can. Stay on top of your pain, with proper pain management. Take your medicine on time. Once you are able to drink: SIP, SIP, AND SIP!!! AVOID DEHYDRATION AT ALL COST!!!

It's normal to feel nervous but do not stress. It will not benefit you at this point. Healing starts in the mind and than the body follows :)

  3. I'm in the same boat as you. But I don't think I'm losing weight fast enough, and I feel hungry all the time. I'm two weeks post op and I've only lost 10 lbs so far

At two weeks out, your body is not in the losing stage. Your body is healing at this point. You are still pretty swollen and still holding most of the fluids that you received through the IV. Be patient, once you turn the corner and start eating a little more, the weight loss is going to hit you :)

  4. I don't burp but I definitely have the gurgling sounds as I type this i'm hearing them because I drank my Protein shake! LOL And i'm 22 months post-op it hasn't gone away yet for me! My husband gets a kick out of the different sounds my throat and stomach make after I eat or drink...I'm use to it now but I hate it when i'm out to eat some place not so loud or we have a potluck or a work luncheon - I barely eat because I don't want people to hear my noises.

My husband will say silly things like: hush.... your tummy is talking to me! The gurgling noises from my throat can be pretty loud lol!

  5. Hello! the day will come when you feel "normal" again lol!

You're still swollen and just started your healing process. That's why it hurts. It will get better. No way to pin point when that will be, since we are different. By two months, I was able to drink and not feel uncomfortable. Also by then, I had adjusted and accepted my new way of life. To this day I still take small sips, and do not use a straw.

  6. You are not alone! I went through as well 5 weeks post op, if I was offered a "way out" I would have jumped on it!!! I did my homework pre op and thought I was ready for the waves of emotions that came crashing on me. Today my only regret : I did not do it sooner. Be patient, allow your self time to adjust and heal. Big hugs my dear  !!!!

  7. I understand your frustration! I would feel battered if I was told I was at the low end of their chart as well!! I failed to understand why he felt the need to share this info with you? I thought the idea is we all lost differently? That's the reason why my DR. NEVER told me what he expected me to lose, what my weight should be at any point of time during my journey!! He simply said : Follow my protocol, and you should lose about 75 to 80% of me excess weight within 18 months.

I have only seen him once post surgery. I mostly see and communicate with the RN. If a visit showed low lost, she usually makes adjustments to my food intake to help bump it up. I am usually the one to panic. She never makes me feel like the low lost is a failure of my part. She reviews my labs, reviews my food journal, answers my emails ect! I am satisfied with her. She is very competent.

As long as you know you are doing everything that you need to do( Protein, Water, Vitamins, no snacking, no sugar, low cab, exercise, rest ) I would say don't worry. Your body is going to eventually respond to the surgery. And if they have goals that they want you to reach, that's fine, but they should let you know!! They need to give you a clear outline of what is expected.
