  1. With the sleeve you CAN gain the weight back. This is going to be true of any weight loss surgery. The major changes that are needed to get to goal and to maintain it will have to come from you. You have to watch what you eat and exercise regularly to keep the weight off. The sleeve is just a tool to help you lose weight. It is not a cure all for obesity.

    Hi Ya'll!

They HAVE to give you copies of your medical record. This is copied from the Medical Board of California's website: The patient or patient's representative is entitled to copies of all or any portion of his or her records that he or she has a right to inspect, upon written request to the physician. The physician may charge a fee to defray the cost of copying, not to exceed 25 cents per page or 50 cents per page for records that are copied from microfilm, along with reasonable clerical costs. By law, a patient's records are defined as records relating to the health history, diagnosis, or condition of a patient, or relating to treatment provided or proposed to be provided to the patient. Physicians must provide patients with copies within 15 days of receipt of the request. http://www.mbc.ca.gov/consumer/access_records.html The section does go on to say that if they need more time they have to notify you by ten days and the extended time can not be longer than thirty days

    Approved!

I called my insurance and my referral to the surgeon was approved!!! Called the surgeons office, they haven’t received it yet, but she will call me after she talks to the insurance company. Now I am waiting on the phone call. I may only have 3-4 weeks till surgery!!!!
  4. The only person who can decide if the surgery is right for you is you. I know that it took me a long time to decide to get it done. I really wish I had just done it sooner rather than later.

    Pre Pre-Op Diet!?

My insurance wants us to lose 10% of our weight. So for me that is about 37 pounds. I’ve lost about 20. I should be getting a call to meet with the surgeon sometime this week.
  6. So I’m thinking of putting myself on a (pre)pre-op diet. I haven’t had my consult with the surgeon yet, but I am really scared that my liver will need to shrink more. I had to have a CT of my liver and won’t have the results till I meet with the surgeon. Not everyone in my options class had to do a CT, so I’m worried that my liver is larger than normal people of my size. I have been doing a lot of research on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and now I have convinced myself that is why they wanted the CT. Has anyone else done a (pre)pre-op diet? Did you tell your surgeon when you met with them? I’m also hoping to have my surgery by mid-August. So I’m hoping that they might count the (pre)pre-op diet as part of my pre-op diet.

    (Pre)Pre-Op Diet?

When I went for my gallbladder ultrasound I was told that they found something and required to have a Ct done. With my insurance, you don't meet with the surgeon until you finish all of your pre-op testing and a 12-week class. I've finished everything, now I'm just waiting on my referral to the surgeon (should hear from them anytime). And no, I don't drink. My mom is an alcoholic and just the smell of alcohol makes my stomach turn.
  8. Got my fingers crossed for ya
  9. When I went to my medical interview, they didn't discuss what surgery I want. I will be meeting with the surgeon soon where I will discuss it with him. After all the research that I have done on the sleeve, I won’t let them change my mind. I feel like I am too young to have to deal with malabsorption the rest of my life. I don't like the idea of rerouting my insides either. So if they do bring up the complete bypass idea for me, then I think I may shoot it down. I really want the sleeve. Ultimately, it is your body and your decision.

I'm quitting too. I haven't smoked today. At this second I'm ok. Let's not talk about the brownies at my work though...

    How Much Should I Lose?

I've set mini goals for myself. When I actually think about how much I have to lose, I get overwhelmed.

    My Goals

So I am at the point in my journey where I get to wait for the call to meet my surgeon. I decided to write down my top ten weight goals. Here is what I came up with: My weight Goals Goal 1- 330 lbs (-50lbs) Goal 2- 299 lbs (-81 lbs, under 300) Goal 3- 280 (-100 lbs) Goal 4- 255 (-125 lbs, BMI under 40) Goal 5- 230 (-150 lbs) Goal 6- 199 (-181, ONEderland) Goal 7- 191(-189, BMI 29.9, not obese) Goal 8- 180 (-200 lbs) Goal 9- 159 (-221 lbs, Normal BMI) Goal 10- Maintain, Maintain, Maintain!!!
  13. I was asked a lot about what type of support system I have. She asked a couple questions about substance abuse and eating disorders. One of the questions she asked me that really stands out was: "What do you think will inhibit my weight loss process?"
  14. I just finished options and only lost about 5%. They are still doing my referal. I'm not going to go crazy and pig out because i know that I need to keep loosing before surgery. If anything knowing that it is getting closer is making me work harder.
  15. Finished my options classes today!!! My referral to the surgeon is on its way. They said I should hear from them in 1-2 weeks =) Now that I am so close, my husband is finding ways that he doesn’t think that we will be able to afford my copay, which is only going to be $400 per day in the hospital. I do understand where he is coming from, but to me even if it were triple that amount, I want the surgery for my health. I don’t think that I can lose all this weight on my own. When I plateau, I get frustrated and give up. It is so easy for me to go back into old eating habits. I have talked to the financial services department at my hospital, and they said they would like half down, and make payments on the rest over six months. I find that so doable. I have to have my husband on board for this. If it came down to it, I know that someone in my family would loan/give me the money for it because they have wanted me to do this for a long time. I just can’t bring myself to ask her. The husband wants me to change jobs where I will be making more money. I have looked, interviewed, done follow-up with the managers. They never hire me. I am convinced it is because of my weight. My job that I have now pays for my insurance, at no cost to me. This is the reason that I keep this job. I really don’t want to change jobs until after surgery.

    Liver Ct?

I have my CT in the morning. When I sent a message to my provider, she just stated that there was some vague findings on my previous imaging studies." I’m pretty sure that it will be just a fatty liver, and refuse to let myself psych myself out until I hear any different. Now, until I do hear from them, I think I will put myself on a more restrictive diet. Thinking about doing 2 shakes a day with a small meal and a couple Snacks. I think this will only prepare me for the almost all liquid diet that they will put me on.

Also make sure you have your Vitamins ready to go for when you get home. You don't want to have to run out for them afterwards.

    Over Eating

I felt the same way today. I finished my nut classes and now I don't have someone looking at my food logs for the week. I really wanted to hit the buffet. But went to subway with my sister instead.

    Gastric Sleeve Video On Youtube

I have watched a couple video's. Didn't phase me. But I love stuff like that, it's one of the reasons I want to go into nursing.
  21. I have told him that over and over again. I honestly think he is just scared. I plan on completing any steps that the surgeon wants me to complete, with or without his support. I said at the beginning of this journey that this is the time for me.

    Playstation For Some Exercise?

I have EA sports active for the ps3. I like it because it doesn't require me to set up the move system to use it. It comes with sensors that monitor your movement and heartrate.

    Liver Ct?

What I am worried about is I asked this question on the local support board I follow through my insurance and they didn't know what I was talking about. I'm going to one of my classes tomorrow, so hopefully I will get more answers then. But in the mean time, I will drive myself crazy with Dr. Google

    Smoking

What is everyone’s surgeon’s policy on quitting smoking? I know that I will be required to quit, and I have been trying. This is way harder than I thought it would be, and my husband hasn’t been very supportive because he doesn’t want to quit and will not stop smoking around me. I find it the most difficult when I am in the car. I have two more weeks of my classes for Kaiser left, then I get referred to the surgeon, where they do tests to see if you have quit. I was told that the nicotine doesn’t have to be completely out of your system, but it does have to show that you are quitting (I’m assuming by having lower numbers)
