Hi, So glad to hear that your surgery went well and that there have been no real issues after. I have just this minute sent a bank transfer to pay the balance for my surgery (surgery date 3 April) and as soon as I pressed the button I said "there is no going back now". I of course have concerns especially as I am having my surgery in europe (I'm UK based) and will only travel out with 2 other sleevers (no family). Well the pre-op starts in 2 weeks! I hope that my journey is as plain sailing as yours. Cathy

    Where are the 50s ???

Hi I'm cathy, living in the UK and scheduled for surgery on 3 April. I am a self pay (do not meet criteria for wls on nhs) so am going to Brno in czech rep for surgery. I am 52 at present and will be 53 at surgery date. I have been looking at this site for some weeks and found it very informative. Sleeve surgery in the UK is not very common and so people understanding what it is even is hard. I have to make final payment this week and so I am having should I/shouldn't I 'worries'. I know in my heart i should but the little devil is sitting on my shoulder saying "why don't you give diet ... one more try", "will it work for you?", "you do know that you will never eat normally again" etc etc Some help and reassurance please
  4. Thank you for posting such great details of your journey. I am in the UK and travelling to Europe for my surgery on 1 April 12. Parents/partners are not encouraged to travel with you so I will just have the other sleevers with me (3 I believe). I have only heard wonderful things about the people I will be dealing with, surgeon and support staff so I hope my op and follow up is as good as yours.
  5. Hi Ladies. It is nice to see some posters over 50 (age not BMI). I am not sleeved yet but my op is booked for 3 April. I won't use numbers for the date because as you can see from my username I am in the UK and we write our dates the other way round so 3 april is 3/4/12 which I believe for you reads 4 March 12. It causes me great confusion when I am reading posts. Anyway I will be 53 when I have my op. I am very calm about it all at the moment but no doubt the nerves will kick in closer to the time. Sleeves and wraps are not so common here in the UK yet though the sleeve market is growing. That is why I follow a US forum as there are more people giving feedback. I am a self funder as bariatric surgery is very limited (on the nhs) in the UK and usually you need a BMI of 50 to be considered or have health issues. My BMI is 43 and I did not want to put more weight on just to get in the maybe line. This is my first post but I have been looking for a month or so. Cathy

    Who Are You?

Well here goes my name is Cathy (52) and I live in the UK. I have been married to my lovely husband for 28 years and I have 2 sons, 24 and 18. I am due to have my sleeve surgery on 3rd April. I am paying myself so don't seem to go through the same process that you do in the US. However, I have arranged the surgery but have not seen my doctor yet. I wil have to go and see my GP (general practitioner) in the next week or so and tell him of my decision. I have been given a list of tests/bloods that must be done soon. I have been overweight for most of my life and just am so sick of it. I have over the years done slimming clubs, gyms, lighterlife, cambridge diet so thought the sleeve is the tool I need to succeed. One of the interesting parts of my life is that I lived in HK for 10 years and both my boys were born there. It was a really interesting part of my life and in that time we travelled within Asia too. I enjoy reading everyones posts and I hope you will keep in touch with me as I start this journey.
