I thought the same thing, but like you , I didn't want to come across as unsympathetic.

Good to see that others also thought this was strange for a 1st or 2nd post. I was going to say something but thought that for once in my life I should just be sympathetic and tactful instead.

I would suggest bringing him to your seminar if it is conducted by your surgeon. My required seminar was conducted by my surgeon, his nurse and the nutritionist. My husband was skeptical but after attending the seminar and having all of the questions answered, he actually opted for the surgery too! In fact he was banded 6 months before I was ( insurance issues...grrr). Anyways, 11 months and 80 lbs later, he wouldn't have it any other way!

The addiction to food is hard to break, as is the drive to overeat even when it is painful. You are doing the right thing to start over with liquids and advance your diet slowly to try to get back on track. The hardest time is at the beginning where I assume you are...this is a lot of work but it does get easier! Good luck!

mommykristie got a reaction from Savannah26 in To Tell Or Not To Tell That You've Had Lapband Surgery Or Wls(Weight Loss Surgery)
I agree that this is a very personal decision. I chose to tell and I freely try to answer any questions that anyone has. In fact, I know of several that are considering or going through the insurance hoops right now. I think that some felt comfortable discussing it with me and being able to talk to me frankly. I even post a once a month full head to toe shot on my Fbook page to help document. I have had nothing but very positive experiences with others with lots of encouragement. Having said that, the one question that does start to irritate me somewhat is the standard " how much have you lost" For some reason that particular question, makes me pause because weight loss is so much more than just the pounds, but also the increased exercise, the healthier diet, the smaller clothing sizes, etc.

mommykristie got a reaction from 2muchfun in Clothes Are Loose But Scale Is Not Moving
I understand exactly what you mean! I go for my doctor visit tomorrow and had planned to discuss this very thing. I currently exercise 6 days a week walking/run/jog for 45-60 min. I vary the courses to get a difference in hills, flats, etc. On three of those days, in addition to my walk/jog, I workout with a personal trainer doing 30 minutes of cardio and 30 of strength training. I keep to the 1000-1200 calorie count but my loss is very slow on the scale. My surgery was on March 15, and I had my first ( and only) fill on April 26. Since the April date I have only lost 7.5 lbs; however, the inches are definitely coming off and my clothing sizes have dropped. I am just impatient for my scale to catch up!

I have been so busy the past few weeks, that I have not had an opportunity to even check out the boards. However, I had to share a little nsv today. I have been working with a personal trainer three times a week and boy am I out of shape!! Even during a simple hamstring stretch, I could not grab my ankle and pull it up. I was grabbing my shoestrings, my sock, my shoe,...whatever I could manage. Talk about embarrassing! Today, I finally could grab my ankle up!! Silly, I know, but I was determined to get that foot!!
One thing I have noticed is that for the past few weeks with ending school, vacation, etc., the pounds have not been coming off. Inches..yes, but the scale is barely moving It would be nice to see those numbers move a little more. I am trying to concentrate on being down clothing sizes since my scale seems to be stuck.
On the bright side, it was so pleasant to sit on the airplane without worrying this time. Also, all of the rides were much more comfortable at the theme parks. I even had to pull the seatbelt tighter! WooHoo!!

I think the problem is, those of us coasting along happily don't feel the urgency and need to post a thread. Plus, a lot of people seek out these message boards only for problems then disappear again once they get the responses they're looking for.
Btw, statistically speaking, only between 18-26% of people have complications. Of those, at least half of those complications are self created (drinking carbonated beverages, eating around the band, severe over-eating, etc)
For what it's worth, I LOVE my band. I've already lost 82 pounds in just under 4 months. I've never thrown up, I can eat anything I want, and I feel better than I have in many years.
Being banded is by far the best thing I've ever done for myself.

mommykristie got a reaction from kbliss78 in First Fill
I had my first fill yesterday. I had contemplated not having one because I have not felt any hunger between meals and have to remind myself to eat. That is until this week! I had been walking on my own and the weight loss had slowed down once I went back onto regular foods. However, slow and steady was fine. This week, I started with a personal trainer and I noticed a HUGE difference in getting hungry around meal times. I went from struggling to get in 700 calories a day. My doctor actually told me I would have to increase my calories due to the amount of exercise. Got to give the body some fuel! So I gladly chose to take my first fill. Back on liquids for a couple of days, but I am anxious to see if I can balance out this fill with my new exercise regime.

Great to hear!!! As much as possible, walk around to alleviate your gas pains. The first two days, if my neighbors had seen me walking around in my nightgown in circles in my living room, I am sure they would have thought I was nuts!!!
I had my hubby take me to Walmart to walk around on the third day. I could go slow and hold on to the buggy if needed!!!

I had hot and sour Soup strained, wonton soup without the wonton and strained french onion. Worked great! Much more filling than the plain broth plus the taste was 110% better!!!

mommykristie got a reaction from ☠carolinagirl☠ in After Surgery/going Back To Work
I was banded on a Thursday morning and went back to work on Monday. I moved slowly but it wasn't bad at all. I have had 3 previous Csections, so I know from experience about the gas issues which will be the main "pain". Walk, walk , walk!!! Within a few hours after my surgery ( I stayed overnight at hospital, my choice), I asked the nurses to go ahead and let me start walking to dissipate the gas build up in the muscles. I know many have sworn by gas strips, but during all of my surgeries, I found that the more you walk, the quicker it will dissipate because it is a different type of gas than "eating gas". By that Wednesday, I took a group of 40 elementary kids on a field trip and was fine. I had some soreness at my port area, but that really showed up more at night. I used a pillow against my stomach to help move in and out of the bed for the first few days ( just like pregnancy all over ) I think everyone has their own pain tolerance but I have been very fortunate to not have had terrible pain. The greatest thing for me was being able to sleep back on my side and stomach at around 5 days post op!!!!!
