BeautyVGSJourney got a reaction from gENhA in Any Drs in Louisiana used and Cost??
I had my surgery with dr. Ponce de leon in Mexico and I could not be happier! My total cost with flight and spending money was $6000. One ofmy sleeve sister and her hubby both had surgery with him the same day and they are from Louisiana. He is super experienced, has been doing the sleeve for over 7 years and has been a surgeon for over 20. I posted videos of my surgery and journey in YouTube if anyone is interested.

I had my surgery with dr. Ponce de leon in Tijuana Mexico, I loved my experience! You can watch my videos if you want, I posted my surgery and many other videos. My coordinator was Trish and the cost $5500 plus air fare. I spend $6000 total with tips, airfare, and stuff I bought there. I had a great experience and highly recommend him and his team. He is very experienced and has taught many surgeons such as Dr. Almanza.
    Good luck!

Thank you all for all of your prayers and uplifting words!! I didn't have to do another swallow since I could eat the ice just fine! Plus all of the mess he upped helped too! I did stay an extra night at the hospital for close watch, but now I am at the beautiful Lucerne hotel! I'm working on getting all of my liquids in and my coordinator trish just had somebody come to my room and give me a LOVELY pedicure!! Not to mention earlier she took me to get my hair done!! Dr Ponce and trish are great! As well as all of the team at INT hospital! I'm do glad feeling better!

I had mine with Dr Ponce, I asked him that before my surgery. He said if something happened while I was there he would take care of it. If I went home and had to come back I might need to pay for my ticket and maybe some hospital fees but otherwise nothing. I am over a month post op and thank God nothing happened! I am doing wonderfully. I have heard great things about Dr Alvarez but I also wanted to save the extra money and honestly Dr. Ponce is super experienced. Even if I had to go back it would had cost me less than the extra 3000. Dr Ponce is only 5500.
    Good luck on your search!

Hi everybody! Just wanted to give an update! (Sorry it took so long, i was SOOO out of it yesterday!) Anywho, i had my surgery around 11 am yesterday. Im pretty sore, especially getting in and out of the bed! But i think a good portion of my pain is gas pain (abdomen to shoulders). I do have a drain that is gross and keeps filling, im not sure if it is causing pain or not though. I am using my heating pad and it seems to help. I havent had ANY ice, Water or anything yet! My mouthis SO dry! Im not even allowed to chew gum! Hopefully in a few hours i can have some ice chips! I havent really had any nausea, some other ladies have though. I hop e i dont get nauseous either :-/ what else... trish is awesome (my coordinator)!! My fligh got delayed a few times on thursday so i didnt get to INT until almost midnight! Buttrish was here to greet me with open arms and helped me settle in! I think i wasnt quite prepared for all of the nurses that dont understand english, but google translator has helped! Its kind of funny because i wasnt going to know for sure if i was going to be able to have the sleeve done until after surgery to see what was going on with my band. So because of the language barriers and not having access to my personal belongings in the recovery area, i didnt really know if i got sleeved or not! But i did!

    hi there
Welcome home from Mexico, and back to the Sleeve Board - we missed you
i also wasn't allowed any ice chips. EGADS
After i "begged" they finally gave me those swabs with the Water on them that i could rub in my mouth. That was such a treat, I thought I was in heaven
Great to hear that your co-ordinator Trish was so nice and helpful too. That really is great to have that extra support, especially in a foreign country.
Glad things are going so well
    continued success

I too am going to Dr. Ponce in July. I live in San Diego and I have done my research and have been to the INT hospital, met Dr. Ponce, his team and Trish and feel very comfortable. Trish is great. She is a coordinator for Dr. Ponce and lives in MX. She knows the doctors, she knows the hospitals first hand. She is not just a coordinator answering phones, she knows the hospital staff, the doctors, restaurants, she speaks english and spanish. Dr. Ponce is well known and respected by his colleagues. He is the one the doctors go to for gastric surgery. He is also the doctor you want operating on you if you do have complications. I will keep you updated. If I can answer any questions for you, I'll do my best.

They cannot make you stay in Mexico but they can certainly hold you up. For me it was safer to have the passport, but that is my personal opinion.

    Hi everyone,
Like many of you know I had my sleeve May 10th and now I am almost 3 weeks post op! I am also currently in school and I have to do a Master Project, I was going to do a systematic review on the effects of Ghrelin in seizures but a two weeks ago someone beat me to it! and now me and my co-investigator are looking for another topic. Since the sleeve is so dear and near to my heart (literally) we are thinking of doing a research project but that would mean I would need people who have had the sleeve to fill out a completely anonymous survey, the problem with this type of research is that often times people don't get enough surveys filled and the study falls thru. I want to see if there are some of you who would be willing to answer a few questions on an online questionnaire for my research? Things such as age, gender, BMI, weight, and some medical and other questions will be asked but no one will know who answered what. I can also post the results later for your viewing pleasure. If you would be willing to participate please just like my post or reply. Thank you so much!!!
