racheal218 got a reaction from littlebits in Bowling Ball
It took me around a month to feel normal. The medicine they gave me made me feel worse. But the good news is it steadily got better so every day felt better than the previous. I was sleeved on 3-6-12, and wouldn't change it for the world but that first month I might not have been inclined to say that:) best of luck and keep your chin up.

Awesome! 8lbs in one week is amazing!
Nancy - I know what you mean! My sister and cousins have also started being serious with carb counting and limiting fat. My cousin who is away from home for college called me at around 8PM on Saturday. She wanted to go out for dinner with her friends, but she wanted me to tell her what I would order if I had been there. I said grilled chicken and some Soup. She called me on Sunday and told me that she had ordered just that, and she loved the food and didnt feel hungry later. She said she is going to visit a nutritionist and have a diet plan designed for her.
Many people in my family and office have said that I have inspired them to take serious steps towards a healthy life style. 5 months ago, that would be a laughable statement. Today, I can accept that statement with pride and I'm so in love with my sleeve!

Wow! 8 pounds in a week - that's outstanding! I know what you mean about loving the sleeve and the forum. Not often in life do we get "do-overs" and to me, I feel like this is my do-over. I've learned so much from my doctors, their staff and this forum. I'm just plain excited. My sister and best friend are worried about being "left in the dust" so they've been inspired to seriously begin looking at what they are eating, quantities and nutrients. This new lease for me has spread to a new lease for them. I'm with you on the appreciation front!!

Can I just say how much I appreciate my sleeve? I felt like I wasn't doing things all together right but I felt great so I wasn't going to stress myself out over it. I got on the scale expecting not to have lost much since last week and eight more pounds was gone. I was sooo happy and thankful, just wanted to share. Thanks for giving me the forum!

You betcha!!!!! From what I understand, when we had this surgery, not only were our tummies removed but some hormones and other "stuff" we may not know we needed. It makes sense to me, however, when some of these hormones are removed, people do stuff they never used to. . .turn to drugs, alcohol, sex, get more emotional, get angry, etc. . . I did that too. . never was a drinker, but recently I could easily become an alcoholic. . .thank goodness I have control not to do that. . .but it's definately there, that and wanting to go crazy on carbs. . . at 3 years out this is not a good thing (no wonder some people fail with this surgery after a while). . . I had posted a post about my hubbie hurting my feelings by telling me I had gained weight, well after having had a pity party with myself and LOTS of self talk, I told him thank you cause even though I did not gain weight (according to my scale) it made me realize that maybe I'm doing bizzare things which i didn't do before. . . and then I realized that yes I'm snacking like an idiot on carbs and between meals and yes I was drinking alcohol A LOT!!! Sooooo, i stopped that dead in its tracks. . . think head hunger is murder? Try stopping every thing cold turkey! If i wasn't crazy before, I will be now! hahaha. . . but it's only temporary cause once my body gets back on track, I will be ok. . . . PS: For you stats folks, I don't have proof of my findings, only observation. . . .

Ever hear of transfer addiction? Don't start drinking now just because you can't eat. I think a little alcohol here and there is fine, but it's strange that a non-drinker would suddenly start craving it, IMO. My psyche told me that I would "definitely" become an alcoholic, so I've been very stringent on how much and when I drink...and I never drank much pre-op either.
    Good luck!

    Rachael,
i think they refer to alcohol as "empy calories." Not good to drink alot. I know its ok to have a little now and then, but overdueing, like food - isn't great. Remember, smaller portions and moderation

    sorry for the interruption,/crash but......
    Lissa,
i see you have been creeping "down" in weight to losing 91 lb - how terrific is that?

LOL, thanks, Kathy!! I'm losing, albeit slowly on the pounds front. B U T I am stronger and wearing smaller sizes than I have in 10 years. I'm btwn 260 and 264 daily, dying to get into the 250's. However, I weighed 245-260 on the way up for over 10 years, so I know this is a plateau weight. It doesn't matter, though. I will get there and I'm adding in more exercise every day. Besides, my butt looks fabulous right now!!

Thanks for the replies. I have been on the liquids only yesterday and today and have had no problems throwing up-- not nauseated at all so everything seems okay. My surgery was Thursday and I'm still at the hospital, but should be discharged any time.
I feel really good today and it feels good to get up and walk around. Plan on trying to walk a lot when I get home.

WRONG!!! I have been slipping a lot more lately, pretty much eating what i want (much smaller portions of course), drinking what I want (Beer, diet drinks, coffe etc) because I got this sleeve thing all figured out..right?? WRONG...

I am scheduled for g.s. surgery on May 14,. But, I know I need help with the emotional eating. I am planting in my head that the surgery is only a tool and the weight can be put back on. If you were an emotional eater the surgery will not take care of it. Hope it is beneficial TooMuchOnHerPlate.com

Stage 1: any Decaf teas you like, definitely Jello and Popsicles (sugar free). Sobe makes a calorie free sugar free drinks that are tasty.... Or MIO Water Enhancer....
Stage 2: cream Soups. I also ate other soups that didn't have chunks (roasted red pepper, Tomato, carrot/ginger. pudding, cream of wheat, yogurt without chunks (Lucerne brand at Safeway is good for that)
Stage 3: eggs, tuna, canned chicken, mayo or mustard ( you can make a lot of things with just these few ingredients. I use a baby bullet I got to make my daughters food... works great and it's only $60 if you don't want to shell out a bunch of cash for a food processer (they don't normally work well anyway unless you make a huge batch... and let's face it, not happening. I would say by day 4 you should be feeling pretty good... a week post op if you havn't already you will want to get out. Get yourself a nice refillable beverage container. Something new for you (which is always nice) and that you can take note of the ounces to set a daily goal. I need to drink 4 of these bottles a day to reach your daily goal for water/liquid.
One last idea. Buy a notebook if you don't already have one. If you have been well educated you know ALL the Vitamins you will need to take and your take home meds. Write out what times you plan to take your Vitamins and meds. I was so bummed I didn't do this for myself ahead of time. Coming home groggy from pain meds it was like the hardest puzzle to figure out since you can't take some things with others you have to plan your meals and all....
Last but not least, good luck to you. You will do great! I think 6 weeks pre-op I started shopping too... you just never know what will / won't agree with you so I bought everything...
Where are you having your surgery? I am almost 2 weeks post op kaiser, Northern California.

I also had a problem with the Protein Shakes I just stopped drinking them and tried eggs. Eggs made my stomach hurt even cooked soft with cheese in them. i got unfavored Protein and added it to mashed potatoes and Tomato Soup, I ate a lot of marinara sauce with cheese. I too dont like alot of stuff after surgery. It is better to eat somesthing you can keep down.
