    Hunger!!

Well, today is the first day of my two week liquid diet! I'm already hungry--- head hunger and REAL hunger! It's gonna be a really long two weeks! I go back to school tomorrow. Hoping it will be a good day! Is it just me or is every other commercial on tv about food?!?! I guess I should be looking on the bright side--- at this time in two weeks my surgery will be over and the rest of this journey can get started! Wish me luck these next couple of weeks!

    January 2013 Bandsters Unite

Best wishes to you too, Onamission and all the rest of you as well! My date is Jan15. I started my two week liquid diet today. I have been trying to get my insurance approval for a year so I understand what you mean about patience! Been kinda hungry today--- just trying to hold on to the thought that two weeks from today my surgery will be over by now! I'm anxious to hear all about all of your journeys.
  7. My biggest fear, too! Like you, I've failed so many times before--- each time thinking this is gonna be it--- have some success and then fall "off the wagon" again and be right back where I started or worse! I'm trying to approach this with the best possible attitude! Good luck to you!

Thank you, SaltLife! Went to the hospital today to get all the pre op paperwork and blood work done! Then went shopping for the things I will need to start the diet tomorrow! Just ready to get on with it and start this new phase of my life. Hopefully, that proverbial New Year's resolution will be fulfilled this year--- for all of us! Thanks for the encouragement!

Really been thinking about the pre op diet today! I start it Tuesday and I kinda feel like I'm in mourning right now thinking about it! I know that surely I can do it if others before me have but it just seems so daunting right now! Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers that I can get through this phase! It would be greatly appreciated!

The light at the end of the tunnel

I met with my surgeon for the final time before my surgery yesterday! I go to the hospital on Monday to get all of my preop testing done. Then if all goes as planned, I will be banded on January 15th! I start my 2 week liquid diet on New Year's Day. I plan to go shopping later tonight for all the things I need to begin the diet. My hubby has decided that he could lose a little weight also so he's gonna do the diet with me in the evenings so I won't be so tempted! I'm planning on cooking some things up and freezing them for my 14 year old so he can just heat things up for his supper. I'm really excited and nervous all at the same time! Just ready to get on with this and hopefully be successful at getting healthy once and for all! I'm nervous about the 2 week diet! I go back to school(kindergarten teacher) the day after I begin the diet and worry about the possible headaches and irritability from not eating! I have a really big class this year--- 27 students( 18 boys and 9 girls!)! So, that in itself has made this year a bit challenging! Just don't want to add to the stress with hunger issues! I know I will get through it though--- just gotta stay focused on the end results! Looking forward to the New Year and all the exciting changes ahead!

    Struggling and sad:(

Just hang in there! I THOUGHT I was doing everything my insurance required and when I came to what I thought would be time for my insurance to approve, I found out that had not actually done what they wanted so I had to start the process all over again! I finally got approval the week of Thanksgiving and will actually have surgery on Jan.15th( I started this process right after Thanksgiving LAST year!)! So just stay positive-- it will happen!

I know what you mean! I don't know why anyone would think this is the "easy" way out! I mean my goodness, who would just opt for major surgery if they didn't feel like it was the only way! Obviously, we tried over and over again! And what they don't seem to realize is there will still be plenty of hard work even with the band! You will still have choices to make-- what you eat, are you gonna exercise and so forth. I think it's really just a form if jealousy or insecurity on their part so they have to make you feel rotten, too! Oh, well! That's why this site exists--- to provide support! I know everything will go just fine for you! Good luck and keep in touch!

Hello! My surgery is scheduled for Jan.15. I start my liquid diet on Jan. 1st. I'm really dreading that part! My cousin had lap band in July and she assured me it woukd be ok. She also said the first couple of days were the hardest! Good luck! I will be interested in hearing how your surgery goes!

    Surgery scheduled for Jan. 17

Congratulations! I'm scheduled for Jan15th. I don't start my liquid diet until Jan.1st. How come you have to start so early? I was worried about 2 weeks! I'm trying to wrap my head around how that's gonna go--- I'm worried about blood sugar being low and jst feeling really hungry and grumpy! I teach kindergarten so I'm a little worried for my babies! Lol Hopefully, it won't be too bad!

    January 24, 2013

Congratulations! My surgery is planned for Jan15. I seem to be having all those same emotions and feelings you described! I haven't told very many people either. I just want to wait and see how it goes. I guess I'm a little bit afraid of another failure and little bit afraid of people talking about it being an "easy" way out. I will tell when I'm ready until then, people will just think I'm getting a hernia repaired--- which is true. I'm a little concerned about the 2 week liquid diet. Do you have to do this as well?

    Finally!

Thank you for the comment Dylanmiles23. I haven't been on lately--- trying to get ready for the holidays and all. I think it's really starting to sink in that this will really happen soon! Today, I started feeling really nervous about it and wondering if I've made the right decision, will it work for me, or is this just gonna be another failed attempt! I guess everyone goes through these thoughts and feelings. I will just be glad to get the pre-op diet and actual surgery behind me!

    Finally!

After what seems like forever, I have finally been approved for my surgery and have a date set! I will be banded on January 15,2013!! Super excited and nervous already . I meet with my surgeon again on Dec.27 to discuss the 2 week liquid diet-- so notttt looking forward to that part! I would appreciate any suggestions on things to eat during that phase and the post surgery phase as well. Also, what things should I take with me to the hospital and what do I need to buy to be prepared for recovering at home?

Teachers...how Long Did You Take Off

So glad to see this topic! I've been wondering the same thing. I teach kindergarten and just got approved for my surgery. It will either be on Dec. 18th or Jan.15. My last day of school before the break is Dec. 19th-- the day after surgery. There are so many things going on at this time of year, like hosting a family get together, that I have been leaning more toward the Jan. date--- just hate to take off so much time from school. My surgeon's office will let me know next week which date for sure. I'm kinda worried about the 2 week liquid diet before the surgery as well-- wondering if I will be weak and jittery and how that will affect my classroom. Good luck with your surgery!

    It's Been A While

I haven't posted anything in a really long time. I do get on and read others posts just haven't had much to talk about myself. But I FINALLY have something good to report! I finally got my surgery approval! My insurance required a 3 month supervised diet and exercise program. I had to talk regularly with one of their nurses as a liaison. I thought, mistakenly, that that sufficed as the supervision but when the 3 months were over I learned that that was NOT what they meant. Soooo, the process had to start all over again! Finally, completed that and got all the other tests/paper work submitted. I checked with my surgeon's office on Monday but they still hadn't heard anything (all the paperwork, etc. Had been submitted for a few weeks). Then on Wednesday I finally got the call from the insurance nurse as well as the coordinator from my surgeon's office! Really excited but also REALLY nervous! I'm not sure on the exact surgery date-- either Dec18th or Jan15th. Will know for sure next week. I'm anxious about the 2 week liquid diet. Any advice? Would live to hear from anyone about that! Guess that's all for now!
