  1. Just another exercise benefit (non-food or weight related): Telomeres are short lengths of DNA at the end of each chromosone that serve as a protective cap. Telomeres get shorter and shorter as we get older -and once they reach a certain minimum, the cell has, effectively, reached yhe end of its life. As your cells age, so do you. Some Colorado researchers plotted telonere length versus aerobic fitness in an older group of subjects... Vigorous aerobice exercise makes your DNA look several de...

So Today I Had A Great Talk With My 7 Year Old, About Lap Bands...

You're such a great writer! I love all your blog entries and look forward to following your successes!!!
  3. Calorie counting! I know some of us (post banded) do and others do not. I understand the reasoning behind each, however, if I'm logging food and exercise, which i fear i must continue forevermore to keep me out of trouble, then i might as well count calories. So...

    August Roll Call

P.S. I had one of those "I feel so much thinner" days and when I jumped on the scale I was up 1 lb. I actually laughed because I thought it served me right. Ha. I vowed to weigh myself once a week -no more.

    August Roll Call

@Roxygirl: I've only been banded for a short time (8/31), but I have. a lapband friend (at goal) who told me not to expect weight loss during your body's healing phase, which you are actually still in. She said the weight loss journey seems to begin after your first fill. Try and be more patient with yourself. Continue everything you're doing (I read your blog tonight and you're doing awesome) and I'm told our weight loss WILL happen! Best wishes!!

What Do You Do When You're Super-Thirsty?

Clearly I'm still an inexperienced banded (and have not had my first fill either), but I sortable chug water. No problems whatsoever... yet!??

    First Fill Finally Today!

@Kellysue: im confused... why did your first fill happen eight months later. That seems like a very long time! Heck, in that much time ive been known to gain 50 pounds. (Of course, I hope never to do "that" again post op). Still eight months of will power... yikes!
  9. Mg incisions are so ITCHY!! Suggestions?! I understand they're healing but I'm going mad.

  10. My first post op appt sounds very familiar to Sojourner's experience. Interesting... now I'm curious too.

    Gained Weight Since Surgery

Lol! Good advice, but, oh so, difficult to do.
  12. Had a GREAT post op day! I am proud and grateful this evening. I've read several posts from others on this forum about having to deal with legitimate physical limitations (hopefully much of that will get better as the weight comes off), that make exercising VERY difficult, but yhey still work around it. It's impressive and a nice wake up call for the rest of us. We can move today, right now. Let's not waste this blessing.

  13. Ha! Good question. I never even thought to ask -how funny. Anyway, I placed it on my tummy then, and still now.
  14. COMPLETELY get where you're coming from!!! I even (very briefly) had the thought, "what did I do?" And this is from someone who doesn't make any decision lightly AND had to wait almost a year to have the surgery AFTER I was sure i wanted/needed it. Ha. Feeling nauseated, as you do now, truly is miserable. Please keep us posted... I'm really hoping you get some sleep and feel somewhat human tomorrow.
  15. Oh gee, I cant believe I forgot to suggest a heating pad! Yes! That has been my bestest friend since the beginning!! - "bestest friend" excluding present wls peeps, of course. Hee, Hee.
  16. I was nauseous the second and third day. I know its miserable - I'm sorry. I don't have any great ideas of my own but under one of my profile feeds from that day I got a lot of good advice. Feel free to check it out (I don't remember my actual post but look for something about being disappointed and nauseous. Ha!) Anyway for me, I just stopped taking my pain pills because that's what (seemingly) made me throw up in the first place. After the two not so good days I promise you I was feeling great physically! I know it stinks right now but everything will be better soon. Best wishes!
  17. So... let's see if i can follow instruction today. My mama always said someday i would learn to use my strong will for good, not evil. :)

@ rumcookies5: Outstanding numbers!! Very exciting.
  19. This "feeling" hungry theme is getting old! ;) Great with the exercise so far, but a lot of self pep talk about food is wearing me out. ha!

    Exercise???

I was told the same as SueBee01. No weight training and machines before 6 weeks, but walking, and light biking and no resistance eleptical ok. Check with your doctor.

    Banded Today!

Congratulations! The heating pad was my best friend... and walking was a close second! Best wishes.

    A La Board, Banded 8/30/12

Hi rumcookies 5! Hi amyknecht! I haven't had any heartburn, just some mild burping. The problem with us all being banded around the same time is no one knows what to expect! We're all a work in progress. Ha Ive been feeling great but have been struggling with hunger. I think a lot of it might be mental, nonetheless, it's still a struggle!! I'm on mushies for another couple weeks too, but for some weird reason I feel most satisfied/full after drinking shakes... I don't know, this whole experience is so different I don't know what I'm doing. Lol Best wishes to us all... now and in the future

    First Post Op Dr Visit

What are you doing that has your dre office so impressed? I went to my first post op appt today and left feeling sorts like, "what do i do now?" Ha. I had plication with my band too, but I still have quite an appetite. Kinds hummed about that. The nurse I met with today (thought I was seeing my surgeon!) told me to come back in 5 weeks and not expect a first fill for 3-4 months! Yikes!!! That scares the heck out of me... I can do alot lot of damage in that amount of time.
  25. Best wishes tomorrow!!! Meet back here post op!!
