  1. Don't give up on plain water yet. Prior to surgery it was my drink of choice, afterwards it had an unpleasant taste. After several months, though, it is back to my number 1. No more unpleasant taste.
  2. The Fibercon is a long-term solution. It doesn't work right away. Use one of the short-term solutions posted here and you can keep taking Fibercon which will help once it kicks in down the road.
  3. I have it and was approved within 48 hours after submitting the paperwork. The doctor's insurance person told me it was the best insurance in terms of approvals.
  4. I haven't had a protein shake at all since I began soft foods. Eggs cooked in various ways are my favorite food at any time of day.
  5. What a great story and lot's more of the same in your future. Congratulations!
  6. My nutritionist said to just use it as it is, no thinning.
  7. Great post. My nutritionist said the same thing about protein absorption.
  8. Don't be embarrassed, but you need to do something about this quickly. Use one of the short-term solutions suggested above. If you don't go by Monday, call your surgeon's office for suggestions.
  9. or Smooth Move tea, take it at night and the next day you will go. Those are short term solutions, though, and you need something longer term. First, make sure you are taking in enough fluids. Second, use a fiber additive, such as Benefiber, to fluids.
  10. You might consider drinking warm chicken broth or eating Jello with Protein powder--I used a fruit flavored Protein powder with various fruit flavored jellos-- or something else that will give you protein and Fluid at the same time. I remember how hard it was to get the required Proteins.
  11. This thread has deteriorated into screaming cursing rants which are of no help to anyone. I suggest the moderators delete it.
  12. I had a caffeine addiction which lead to severe headaches whenever I did not get my normal daily intake of coffee. Months in advance of the surgery I started weaning myself from coffee. Was I ever glad I had done it! IsB has it right about the diet and exercise.
  13. I'm not sure that would be considered a subtlety.
  14. gillopez has a point but the fact that you posted here means you have not resolved the issue of whether or not to have the surgery. Good luck as you continue to work this out.
  15. I do deep water aerobics three times a week and have a personal trainer two days.
  16. Call your surgeon's office Monday and ask about it. No reason to keep worrying if it won't be a problem.
  17. I think you're right about the money being an incentive for surgeons to break it up into two surgeries. You're also right about all the reasons for having the hernia fixed at the same time as the sleeve surgery. Look for a new surgeon. One factor you mentioned as a reason for keeping him is that he is sweet. That is not something I would consider in picking one. I would choose an ethical surgeon with successful experience.
  18. You can have Tylenol and it comes in a liquid form. I agree with mcwestfam about the fluids.
  19. I just posted this elsewhere. Sorry for the repetition. Besides scrambled eggs I had poached, soft boiled, hard boiled, over easy, sunny side up, deviled, essentially any way I could cook an egg I could have it. In addition, I could have mild steamed or poached fish; canned or packet tuna, salmon and chicken plain or as salad with lowfat mayo; vegetarian soy products; cooked Cereal thinned with skim milk; nonfat refried beans; nonfat yogurt without added sugar; low salt V-8 juice; unsweetened apple sauce; mashed ripe banana; skim or lowfat cottage or ricotta cheese; mashed squash, white potato, sweet potato. These were all considered a good consistency so none of it had to be pureed.

  21. I hope the stent works. She deserves a break. My thoughts are with her and with you, too. Please update us on her status. We care.
  22. I used Smooth Move tea during that stage. The advantages are that it counts as a fluid, it is warm so it goes down well, and it works overnight.
