Roxygirl reacted to tflemon67 in August Roll Call
Hi Roxygirl, I know the feeling I did two half marathons, trained with a running group and did several 3-10k runs in 2012 and managed to GAIN 25 lbs! Ugh. So frustrating, I did realize that I was overeating. Thinking I could eat more because I was running so much, NOT. I'm back training again and this time watching what I eat like a HAWK!! lol

So I decided to scale my walking down a bit and see if that makes a difference. I use to be a runner. In 2010 I ran 3 half marathons and eventually gave it all up because I never saw a budge on the scale and became so frustrated with all my hard work. Sounds crazy, I know! Maybe I am just one of those that's body holds on for dear life to weight if it burns more calories than it gets a day. I don't know. I sure wish I had the answers!

Everyone's anatomy is different, so while say 2cc may not help one person at all, it may be very tight for another. How much you have in your band is irrelevant- how you feel and whether or not you're satisfied on a cup or less of food for many hours is what matters.
Don't worry about how much is or isn't in your band, all that matters is how you feel and how it's working for you.

every surgon has a different protocol i guess. Some fill up fast and others go slow. I also think it depends on how much excess you have to sheed weight wise to be at the optimal bmi for your frame. Hope that helps.

    Hi Jeannie!
    Drives you crazy, doesn't it?
Weight loss with a Lap-Band seems to be a "Staircase, not a curve".
It's drop, then stop, drop, then stop, rather than a long downward curve.
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it, it just IS.
Two great pieces of advice that I got from my great friend and mentor Christy Means were:
    1. Take measurements. Because when the scale weight loss STOPS is when the body seems to shrink. it's a paradox, but in my case it was very true. Whenever the scale weight stayed the same, the inches fell off.
    2. Stay off the scales. It seems like a weird concept to almost everyone with a weight issue, because we are trained to judge our success by our scale weight. Unfortunately, that also means that we sometimes will consider ourselves to be a FAILURE when the scale weight stays the same or, (HORRORS!) goes UP instead of DOWN!
The reality of life with a Band is that many times our weight loss WILL "Stall" or "PLATEAU" and when that happens it's HARD to not be DISCOURAGED. That is why I recommend that newbie bandsters only weigh themselves during their normal doctor's appointments for SIX MONTHS after banding.
We have to learn an entire new lifestyle after banding. We have to re-learn how to eat, when to drink, how to exercise, how to DEAL with EMOTIONS WITHOUT food as a CRUTCH....
It's a LOT to LEARN all at once!
During that time most people are SCARED TO DEATH that the band won't work, that they will be the EXCEPTION TO THE RULE, that they will SCREW UP.......
and frankly, seeing a stall on scale weight at that time may make it much harder than it needs to be.
    Once I took Christy's advice and STAYED OFF MY SCALE, and learned to CONCENTRATE on the BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION aspect of Lap-Band, a funny thing happened;
I relaxed, it got easy and I lost a LOT of weight and INCHES in a HURRY.

well, I'm now about six weeks post op. My doctor was right on. I'm no longer dieting. I'm living like a thin person. I've lost 33 lbs so far. I eat Protein in the form of chicken, fish, shrimp, small amount of beef, eggs , cottage cheese, etc. I try very hard to get in my five veggies a day. Thats' it. I'm eating three small meals a day and usually a mid afternoon snack and I am completely satisfied. I dont think about food. I have no cravings. I have no desire to graze or binge or stuff myself on anything. I have had no Pasta, no bread, no rice, no cereals. I could if I wanted them or had any room left for them, but I don't, and I don't even miss them. This band is some sort of miracle for me. It has completely changed my thinking about and relationship with food. I was very sceptical that it would work for me, but it is working and I couldn't be happier.

I'm 21 and I drink socially almost every weekend I just don't drink soda or anything carbonated. I can drink and take shots and and all is good and I'm losing regardless of empty calories 92 pounds in 9 months. So have fun but take it easy because you're still going to be freshly banded.

Every doctor is different and so you will get all sort of answers. I suggest asking your doctor.
Keep in mind alcohol is empty calories. I drink wine every night, I have worked it into my diet by counting the calories. And yes I had it at 3 weeks post op. My doctor knows I drink wine and says if it's working fir you ok. I'm down 60 lbs in 7 months, I think it's working.
Good luck and happy 21st birthday!

Yes with every fill, for me it only lasts about a day then I'm back to normal. For the first day if my fill I stick to liquids then softer foods next day. If you are eating and drinking fine give it a day or two to settle. It's just a bit of swelling from the fill. If you are really concerned call them and let them know how you're feeling just to put your mind at rest.
    Gratz on your first fill!

I did after my last fill in Jan. i felt it in the back of my throat for weeks, also when the took out the old Fluid and instilled the new, I felt an exterme amount of pressure in my chest. That was the first time that had happened to me. I will say even though you are eating and drinking ok if the discomfort continues I would call my fill doc and discuss this with him. Good luck.

I have read so many postings of banders wanting to know what to eat, what can they eat, etc.... I would like to share my evening meal with everyone to show that banders can eat just like everyone else and can enjoy it. Plus I want to brag about it!! lol
Ok, let me set the mood. It rained all day Saturday thru Sunday morning, then the sun came out for the day, by Sunday evening it was gorgeous outside, about 78 degrees, crisp air with the smell of the rain, perfect for a BBQ. This is the menu my husband and I enjoyed:
1 glass (5oz) of Zinfandel wine from my favorite Texas winary (drank while BBQing)
    1 3oz bacon wrapped beef tenderloin (I didn't eat the bacon,I could but I didn't want it)
1/4 cup Butternut Squash that was brushed with Olive Oil and grilled (about 7 minutes a side) (Note: Squash was grown in our garden so it tastes that much better!)
1/2 cup spinach, walnut & fat free cheddar cheese salad with homemade Balsamic vinaigrette
The whole meal including the wine was just under 350 calories. The beautiful evening (& company) was priceless!

. I was super strict with myself but there isn't one of us here who didn't push the envelope at some point during the journey. It's the repeated behavior that gets you into trouble. I tracked everything...I think that's one of the best secrets to my loss. Good luck to you.

I had 4 pieces of general tau chicken last night.... first fried food I have had in 21 months! I am guessing it was 2 oz of meat but then Breading is what kills ya. But Not a darn thing wrong with it except I too feel guilty... But I am 9 lbs from goal and it's not like I ate the entire quart... Thats the beauty of the band... Even if you fall of the wagon it will not let you drown as long as you are paying attention to it,
And what I learned from this journey is that today I am eating normally and there will be no reprecussions. It's the day after day of eating poorly that catches up to you.

I make popsicles out of a pre made Protein Shakes, like EAS or Adkins. I put the shake in a popsicle mold and freeze it. I get 6 popsicles out of 1 shake. When I crave chocolate ice cream I have one and the craving is satisfied. It works for me.
