  1. Hi April and welcome! First, congratulations on your weight loss!! My band is very finicky. Any even hint of a cold or illness, my period, and even stress seem to make my band tighten right up. It's possible it was a fluke but now your stomach is irritated, hence the ongoing problems. If I were you, I'd go on liquids for a day to give your tummy time to calm and see if that doesn't help. Best wishes.
  2. I honestly believe little indulgences like the small piece of your dad's birthday cake, are important. If we feel deprived there's no way we're going to be able to stick to this lifestyle. I say have the little piece of cake, enjoy it, and move on. You handled it beautifully because you had your slice and declined to take any home, now you're back to life as usual. I actually had a yummy cake for my birthday in June. I had a slice, each of my kids had a slice, and before I went to bed that same night I threw the entire rest of the cake in the trash. I knew that there was nothing wrong with enjoying one piece, but I also knew if that cake hung around for days one piece would easily turn into half a cake.
  3. This is what this section is listed as: "This forum is dedicated to veteran Bandsters who are six or more months post-op, to discuss issues specific to those who are further along in their Lap Band journey. You must have 100 posts in order to post here."
  4. Oh my gosh, that is simply terrible. I am so incredibly sorry :*(
  5. Unfortunately there could be a lot going on that has absolutely nothing to do with your weight. Heck, it could even be an issue with your husband. You best bet is for you both to get thoroughly checked out to figure out where the problem is.
  6. I am the exact same way. If it's a serious unrelenting craving, I'm much better off having a small piece of chocolate and tracking it than grazing on everything in sight trying to appease the craving. It's better to have a little of something "bad" than over-eat on "good" things sometimes.
  7. I started counting calories and measuring food portions the day I got home from the hospital and I really think that's why I lost a lot even early on. I lost around 13 pounds my first week and I lost close to 27 pounds the first month. By my first fill 8 weeks after surgery, I was already down 44 pounds.
  8. I'm pretty sure Naproxen does come in liquid but you have to get it through your doctor most likely. (Naproxen is the active ingredient in Aleve). I'm sure he'll be able to either tell you where to buy it or give you a prescription for it.
  9. It doesn't matter if some go down, all that matters is the fact some don't. If you're feeling burning around your band, something isn't right and it sounds like some are dissolving above the band. If it were me, I'd be making an appointment with my doctor immediately.
  10. That could be a sign the pill isn't passing through the band but rather dissolving above it. That's not good and can lead to erosion, especially since Aleve is an NSAID. I would talk to your doctor ASAP. You might want to switch to liquid.
  11. The first 4-6 weeks post surgery are for healing, not losing. I wouldn't be too worried about it. If you really want to lose even during the healing phase, start counting calories and keeping your food to a cup or less per meal. Best wishes.
  12. I can see a butterfly but I don't see a ticker on your posts. I think the site may be acting up. People were having problems seeing pictures in one of my posts yesterday, but not everyone, just some people.
  13. You can strain the "stuff" out of any soup and just drink the broth. For instance, I think chicken noodle broth tastes a lot better than canned chicken broth, so I just strained out all the noodles and only drank the broth. I did the same with a beef type soup, too.
  14. I find my band tightens up the first couple days. I still get the cravings big time, for me it's usually cheese or chocolate (not together though lol). I don't graze, but I do plan my calories to allow me to have a little taste. For instance, I'll order pizza for dinner (cheese) but I'll only have one slice and let my family eat the rest. Or I'll have Skinny Cow chocolate candy for a snack. For the last year, it works. I don't feel deprived but I make it through my periods without gaining, in fact I usually lose despite it.
  15. It's really important to breath deep and cough after surgery. When they put you under anesthesia, they put a tube down your wind pipe to help you breath. This irritates your throat considerably. The anesthesia itself depresses all your body functions- or makes it all kinda "sleepy"- including your respiratory system. Because of all this, you're at a higher risk of pneumonia. A cough and phlegm isn't unusual after surgery at all, but it's real important to cough to get all that gunk out of your chest. Hug a pillow if hurts, but don't try to stop the coughing. It's coughing that stuff up that will keep you from getting pneumonia. Best wishes.
  16. Unfortunately there's no way we can know or even guess, just be sure to get into your surgeon tomorrow. If it has slipped, the sooner they catch it the better chance you have of being able to fix it without surgical intervention. Personally, I'd stick to liquids until you see your doctor tomorrow, just to be safe. Best wishes.
  17. You'll find every surgeon has their own idea what works best. Mind seems to be more cautious than most, but I'm ok with that
  18. I was on liquids for 4 weeks after surgery, so I didn't get mushy food until the 5th week. Yes, I've had a lot of success actually. I've lost 181 pounds in the year since I was banded.
  19. I was told no more than 1 cup of food per meal. That's what I've been doing for the last year since getting banded without any problems.
  20. I eat Pasta and rice all the time with no problems. I just take really small bites and chew it until it's absolutely mush. Olive Garden will let you order their lunch portions any time of day, btw. That's what I do when I eat there because it's a much smaller portion. (even though it's still a huge portion and I end up taking 2/3 of home)
  21. Well your doctor knows best so if he gave the ok, enjoy
  22. That's normal, it takes most people multiple fills before they have adequate Fluid in their band.
  23. Welcome! You have to remember that weight loss has nothing to do with fills. Weight loss occurs when you're eating less calories than you burn. Where the band comes in is helping to control hunger, allowing you to be satisfied on less food for longer periods of time. It's not supposed to stop you from eating. It will always be your job to limit portions to a cup or less per meal and to make healthy food choices, not the band's job. Have a look at this link, I think it may help you considerably: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html Best wishes.
