  1. Gosh, I miss a day and so much goes on! I had my first post-op appt and my 2nd nutritionist appt yesterday. I wanted to strangle the dietician. I have been following the book they gave me on what to eat but she wasn't satisfied with that. According to her, I should have been eating (this week) more solids and all but according to my book, I wasn't suppose to start solids until Sunday. Nothing I said was right, I said canned chicken (to make chicken salad) she would say canned tuna. She kept asking me about eating eggs and I told her over and over that I do not like eggs. However, she kept saying I need to eat eggs. Ugh, can we say she didn't listen?? My Dr appt was some better. He has the bedside manners of a mule. However, he did give me a fill b/c I said I was starving this week. He insists we only eat 1/2 a cup of food. The dietician insists we eat until we are full (whether thats 1 cup-10 cups, to her it doesnt' matter). So I've tried full solids today and been successful so far.
  2. I am taking Centrum chewable and Calcium chewables.
  3. I meet with the dietician and surgeon tomorrow for the 1st time after surgery. I am holding still at 12 pounds (according to my scales) from surgery day. I am hoping I get a fill but have a feeling I won't get one until 6 wks out. Today was a little better, I tried to drink more today in between my meals but this evening it has caught up to me. Thinking about going to bed early just so I won't be tempted with the kitchen. How sad is that!
  4. Niki823, I say go for it! You have done so much to get here. Do this for you! Sorry about the job! Did you see this coming? *hugs*
  5. Lots of people getting banded this week!! Good Luck! Today is Day 12 post-op and yesterday was the first day that I can say I was hungry! I don't know what was wrong with me but I wanted to eat everything. I really had to put a muzzle on it last night. Hope today is better. I go to my first post-op appt tomorrow. Will he do a fill only 2 wks out? Or will he wait until my 6 wk appt?
  6. Oh, I don't know. My dr never told me anything about chewing gum.
  7. Congratulations!! Good luck with the new you!!
  8. I have PCOS and was banded March 9 (2012). In order to get pregnant, I was on 2000mg of Metformin and would only get my cycle with medical intervention. However, the past two years, I would go several months without a period and then one day (with no warning) I would have a period for months. And when I would get the period for months it was so heavy, I would become anemic. (aka using up a heavy duty overnight pad every 10 minutes). I am currently on jolvinette b/c they gave me a high dose of BC to stop the bleeding and it caused blood clots in my legs and phlebitis as well.
  9. I've been doing Water aerobics since January and LOVE IT!! However, I got banded on the 9th and not allowed in the water yet I can't wait to get back in. At first, I was so worried about how the other people would see me. (I go to a pool at the gym on a Military Base so most that go there are in shape). But I have found people to be kind and most aren't even found interested in what I am doing since they are busy working out themselves. Good luck! GO! Just dive right in!
  10. Della, Did he say why? Explain to him how you feel. This is something you need to do for you!
  11. I went back today (was banded the 9th) and I feel like I have done a million sit ups. I do a lot of bending, standing, getting up/down/walking.. Ugh, I'm tired Despite the pain, I feel like I am a million bucks! I am just loving having the band. Ok, call me crazy but I feel like I am starting to be normal.. Before, I was never feeling full, always hungry but now I fill up so fast! Good luck to all the ones getting banded!!
  12. My Dr defined mushies as anything you can mash with a fork or put in a blender to puree. My mushies are mashed potatoes, refried beans with melted cheese, pudding and greek yogurt... (Those are the only things I have tried so far. I am allowed grits, cream O wheat, cottage cheese, etc but I do not like them )
  13. AFB- I weighed in on Friday at 277. When I started this journey I was 298.
  14. Karma88 My Dr told me that he would leave some fluid in the band but not a lot. I don't know if its just me or what but I feel stuffed after a couple bites. I will have to remember to eat dinner b/c I will still feel full from lunch. I wonder if I am suppose to be keeping a food journal for my 2 wk appt? Maybe I will just in case b/c they aren't overly friendly.
  15. On the scales topic, I weighed 3/13. The next day was when I started mushies so I wanted to see if that affected my weight. That day I was Day 5 and I was down 12 pounds. I bought my first smaller size today I actually could wear walmart's pajamas. I bought a size 18-20 (2x) and I haven't been able to wear them forever. Before the surgery, If I stretched really hard I could fit into a 3x.
  16. I had my surgery on March 9th. I had to be there by 8am and was in the OR at 9:48 am. When I woke up in the recovery room, they told me I had some troubles breathing at the beginning and end of the surgery. They said my lungs hardened like someone who was having an asthma attack. (I don't have asthma or have never been told). I had to stay overnight due to insurance. The nurses on the first shift were really nice and attentive. I can't say so much about the other shifts I am feeling better but still having gas pains and pains when I get up/down/bend. I am on day 2 of mushies. I weighed on the 13th and was down 12 pounds from Friday (-5 days out). I can't burp, can you? lol
  17. I had my surgery on March 9, 2012 with Dr. Carcamo. I can't say that he has been overly nice. He never came to talk to me nor my sister who came with me. He compared me to a momma cow b/c I said I was putting soy milk in my protein shakes. I go for my first appt (after surgery on March 22). The nurses have been friendly but thats it. Nothing extra but just "nice".
  18. Only my immediate family know that I had the surgery (March 9th). I don't like my co-workers (yeah, long story: they would be very critical). One lady did mention that I had lost weight (pre-op diet) and I just told her that I was trying to make "a lifestyle change" and she accepted that. When I go back to work, I will just say I had a hernia repaired (which I did).
  19. Ugh, when I first got there, I was told I could leave my underwear on. I was grateful b/c my monthly decided to show a few days early. Once I got to the holding area, they told me absolutely nothing. I even explained to all of them about my monthly and they said they would put a pad under me but when I woke up, I had nothing. I even found out afterwards that they in fact put a cath in! I am a modest person and just embarass easily so to find out I had a cath, monthly and nothing under me, oh my!
  20. You could be toning muscle if you have increased your exercising. Muscle weighs more. My scales didn't move for the first two months but I could tell a difference in my clothes and my energy level. Pretty soon you will see a jump in scales. Just don't give up!
  21. First Dr told me that I would not lose enough weight in 1 yr to be considered a success. He said it would not help with my diabetes nor my high blood pressure. He said I needed to do the sleeve.. Dr #2 said I needed to do the bypass b/c my bmi was above 50 and refused to see me again until I lost weight to get below 50. Dr #3 told me that if I wanted the band to work then it was up to me. He could put the band in and I held the controls. He said success depends on me. Guess which doctor I went with? yup, #3.
  22. Judych: I have confidence in you! I was told that I am too fat for the band, that there was no way this would work on me. I am determined to make it work. IF in 2 yrs and the weight is not off, I can at least say I did everything I was suppose to do and I didn't create the roadblocks for myself. It won't be b/c of me that I fail. Maybe those people are right, I might fail but I am going to give it 110% .. I have been up and down with diets all my life, I have lost weight, gained weight, maintained, gained again. But this weight issue, isn't going to get me! (now ask me in a week and I might be on a low and regret it stage but for now I'm up and going to keep going)
  23. When does your Dr say you can move on? My dr says Days 1-5 liquids, Day 6-11 mushies and after that regular foods. Your stomach needs time to heal. I know everyone is different but I haven't had the desire to eat more than the liquids.
  24. Ready4achange: Congrats on the success so far! To those not banded yet: You can do this! Don't let anyone tell you different.
