lwincoA reacted to Brit7 in Lap Band Surgery Insurance Denial
Don't give up. BC denied me twice and only authorized surgery after being contacted by a lawyer. Authorization was granted 12/23 but, too late for me to request time from work. Insurance companies are crafty...So, a new year and surprise to me my employer signed with a new insurance- Blue Shield. Another auth. request...and happily BS authorized first time.
About the lawer, my surgeon referred me to a lawer hired through Allergen (makers of the Lap band). This may be an option for you. I can certainly give you their contact number....
Good luck and dont give up, that 's exactly what the insurance companies want you to do.

My nut told me to make 180 my goal ( I started at 304) but I set my goal at 160. I am now 169 and am starting to think I may go to 150. A normal BMI for me would be 154. So do what you want and let your body tell you where it wants to be. Know-one knows you better than yourself

I had to do it, I thought it was pointless but I am glad I did it. It made me focused around the 4th month. Show them you can lose weight, but dont show then you don't need the band. You got me? I basically did what I was supposed to do to shrink my liver, so they would move forward with the surgery. Good luck

Congratulations on your approval! I quit soda cold turkey! I am proud of myself, you could say I was sorta addicted to it. No caffeine headache either! So happy I did! Have a good journey and keep updating! I'm being banded on the 19th! So excited! I have been working through the process since April, but I'm glad I did it that way it gave me a chance to get my head into the game too! Happy banding!

I'm not banded yet so I can't say that I know lap band does work but look all the people on this forum and how successful they have been whether they lost 40 pounds or 100+ pounds, that's something. My surgeon told me out of the three surgeries, lap band would not help me lose as much weight as say, gastric bypass or the sleeve. However, after floating around these boards I know that is up to ME. If I want to lose 100 pounds+ with the band, it can be done if I'm willing to do the work. I am also young (22) and my surgeon said nothing to me about being so young and probably being unsuccessful. He actually was more optimistic that I was so young, after all we have all the time in the world to make this work for us! If you're that concerned that it can't be done, check newtoy4kt on YouTube. (check out bandedwendy's channel also!) They were what pushed me to my final decision of lap band. Whatever you choose, good luck!

Coal.... it is very important that you have the dr. office submit the dr. findings and all test results as a packet.... not individually..... insurance company will "loose" the paperwork are so they will say..... not as easy to lose a packet of paper than "one or two sheets". My dr. compiled all the paper work and gave them a surg. date... UHC approved on the first try.
Keep on top of the workers at your surg. office..... very important!!! I got my approval with in a week of the submission.
No sleep app, no HB, no Diebetes, no anything...... just FAT....5'2" and 223.... approved
Oh... and sorry about your lose last night against the 49er.... being a saints fan... i was cheering for you.

I had something similar happen to me last year.
I was covered under an employee Regence BCBS plan, and Oregon Weight Loss Surgery sent me a letter stating that I was covered and the level of coverage, copay, etc. I wanted to verify myself, so I called the insurance company and was told there was no coverage. I explained to the insurance company employee that I had received a letter with benefit breakdown and asked how it was possible. She then did a three way call with her, myself, and the insurance coordinator for Oregon Weight Loss Surgery and come to find out the OWLS coordinator saw I was under a Regence Employee Plan and ASSUMED I was on the plan that covered bariatrics without actually checking. Needless to say, I am now under a new insurance that does provide coverage and will not be going to OWLS because the coordinator didn't even apologize for the mistake. Talk about a total let down...
I have a feeling this also happened to you
