    Does This Really Work

I am a newbie and just had my lap band just a week ago and I have lost 12pounds so far. It takes work on your part it is not a fix all. The lap band gives you a tool that helps you control your appetite. They say that the weight loss at 3 years can be equivalent to the gastric bypass at 3 years. The gastric full bypass comes with a lot of health changes as well and once you do it you cannot change it. It matters to me because of the difference in medication absorption. good luck.

    2 Pounds In One Day??

Constipation ( not to be gross) and water retention could be whats going on either could be the culprit.

    Scared :(

They do make a powder that is plain and that way you can blend it with fruit yourself. You really can't taste it and low fat yogart is good too! Good luck!

How Many People Have You Told?

I hadn't told many people before surgery just a coworker and a best friend. Right before surgery I decided to tell my Children. I have a teenage Daughter and didn't want to set what might been looked at as bad eating habit (because if she didn't know why I wasn't eating, I didn't want to set a bad example) I was in pre-op at hospital and I wouldn't have told my sister, but My Dad thought I was going in for heart surgery and he called her and I had to let her know that's not what was going on..so I just told her! My Dad is staying with me so I told him when I told the kids. MENTAL NOTE-If you do not want people to know something...Do Not....I repeat Do Not.....tell someone with intermittent Altzheimers! (That would be my Dad. Who I think he told the world, oh well cats out of the bag now! Good Luck!
  7. The two protein shakes and 1 healthy dinner is great. You can snack on sugar free jello or popsicles. If I did it, you can do it! I didn't have to do a pre-op diet either but I wanted to so that I could get a little used to what it would be like after surgery at first. Not to say I didn't enjoy a few of my favorites with in modest amounts. I don't like walking but (actually dread it!), but I definitely feel better when I do. So everything in moderation and drink, drink, drink water!!!

Who Has Survived The Stomach Flu?

I was jsut banded so I'm not sure. I did throw up on the way home and I am always someone who can talk myself out of it. I had a flu shot before surgery, because I didn't want to take the chance of getting it an throwing up with the band. If you don't have anything against getting a flu shot I would definitely do it next year. Good luck I hope you feel better!

    Lapband Tomorrow 1/24

Best wishes for tomorrow! I was banded last week and didn't sleep very well the night before, but it worked out o.k. because it was easier for me to relax before the surgery because I was so tired. So it worked to my advantage! Let me know how you do! Good luck!

  18. I was banded on Thurs. 1/19/2012 and I have lost 10lbs already. I was also hoping that this was normal. I still have a lot of gas. Si it is hard to eat, I feel really full. I am not sure if my band is tight or the gas is the problem. Way to go on the weight loss!

Surgery Date Moved To Jan28Th Little Disappointed

If they had to move it, 3 days difference is probably as good as it gets. I know a couple of people who had their dates changes for the next month. So consider yourself pretty lucky! It' just around the corner! Good luck!

    Port Placement

My port was placed right below my waist line. I think it was the only question i didnt discuss with the Dr. pro-op. I would talk to your Dr. before surgery.

    So Frustrated...

Hello Bri- I have to share with you because I can feel your pain. I was banded on the Jan. 19th and on my way home, My Sister, who picked me up from the hospital stopped at both Burger King and Dunkin donuts!!! What was she thinking! I am not interested in stopping other people from eating their dinners, but really...on the way home from the hospital! I know how you feel!

How Many People Have You Told?

I was banded on Thursday and so far so good. I was insistebt that I was not going to tell anyone but my best friend. I have 3 teenagers and didnt even want to tell them, wasn't sure what they would think and more over if my ex husband found out. He can be not so nice. I work where my kids go to school and our principal had it done in July and has lost 68 pounds. He was very open about it. At the last minute and i mean 2 days before surgery i decided to tell my kids. I felt that if I started eating in the way i was going to have to they would be suspisous and worry. We have sit down meals and it would have been very noticeable. I didnt want to set a bad example of eating so little for my teenage daughter, so I decided to tell them. It went very well! I also did not want to feel like I was being watched to see how much I had lost from surgery, but figured in the end people would probably ask me if I was ok becasue I was losing so much weight. So I told. I have not told friends from work yet ,but i am assuming they will hear in a round about way. i did not tell my kids to keep it a secret because i didnt want to have to tell them to lie. So in the end I think it was better. There is a lot of pressure to keeping a secret at least for me. I dont need the stress of worrying who has found out. So thats why I chose my mind to tell. It will get around soon enough. I'm not going to run an Ad or anything I'll just wait for it to play out. Good luck!
