    3 Weeks Post Op

I remember that wait. As far as physical preparation, start moving. The better in shape you are physically prior to surgery, the better. You'll need to walk soon after surgery and the stronger your core muscles are the better. You'll need those to get in and out of bed. I'm a bit of a work-out nut and I love moving weight and feeling that burn. I don't want to be jiggly and that has helped me keep losing weight post surgery. As far as mental preparation, be prepared to never feel hungry again. My stomach never growls. I no longer feel controlled by my hunger. It's a very powerful feeling. Food is no longer my enemy, its fuel. The sleeve isn't an easy way out, it's a tool. It allows you to focus on more than your hunger. It's allowed me to eat better, move more, feel better. I wish you the best of luck on your journey

    3 Weeks Post Op

Hi friends! I'm a lil over three weeks post op and I'm still loving it. Hunger is still gone. I would say I'm more thirsty than hungry and I try to drink as much water as possible to keep things moving along and for my skin. I've lost another 8 lbs since my last post op visit. I'm currently 231. Yay! I'm back at the gym, strength training. It felt like I was losing muscle mass. I'm sure part of my weight loss is muscle mass and I still want to maintain some of it, if I can. I'm not hitting upper body as hard core as I was, but my legs have been getting quite the workout. My left knee was bothering me pre-surgery and running was just not possible. Since losing nearly 50 lbs, my knee is back to normal. Thank you, baby Jesus! I'm eating fish and chicken in addition to well cooked soft vegetables like green beans, spinach. Inches are melting away and I almost wish I measured everything before surgery. Clothes are fitting loose and belts should return to my wardrobe to keep my pants up. I'm wearing those skinny jeans I had tucked away in the closet and that alone amazes me. I'm feeling good, taking my vitamins and following up with my doctor. I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but I am on BC. My doctor recommended it and I'm trying Nuva Ring. So far, so good. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary and I'm still losing weight. Win! If you're considering a BC option, I'd recommend Nuva Ring. I notice it less than a tampon and it has not fallen out one time. I've also "tested" it and no problems. I hope all is well with you, and for those of you pre-surgery, or thinking of surgery, I hope this calms your worries and that you don't hesitate to do something wonderful for yourself. This has been the best gift I've given myself. My husband has lost over 50lbs and has started exercising. He's been focusing on cardio and I love that he comes to the gym with me now. We haven't worked out together since before we married. Win again! Take care! <3

    3 Weeks Post Op

I had the sleeve. After talking with my OB (I don't have kids yet), she advised I do the sleeve. Less risk of dumping syndrome and more time to absorb nutrients for baby. She's worked with several patients who have had the sleeve/healthy babies.

I have lost 50 lbs since October 2010. My heighest weight was 280. Since surgery I've lost about 20 lbs. Yay!

I bought this dress to wear to my bridal shower. It didn't fit. Now it does!

    Home After Surgery - Reflective...

I'm so glad you're on the other side. I can understand what you mean about being who you are behind the bulk. I still want to be a kind person, but just one that isn't taken advantage of. A backbone so to speak. I hope you're recovering well and that the pain you speak of in this blog has melted away. I didn't want to take my pain meds at first, but when I didn't, I didn't want to move. The pain meds kept me moving, kept me healing. I'm back at the gym and strength training. I don't want to lose all of my muscle mass that I was working towards pre-surgery.
  9. I'm down 11 lbs since surgery and it's only been a week. Amazing!

    Post Op

I did it! I'm finally on the other side. Surgery day was definitely the hardest. I wanted something to drink the entire day but that wasn't allowed. To keep my mouth moist I brushed my teeth and gargled water. The hospital gave me a binder and that made things so much easier. I was able to get in and out of bed with ease and walking was so much easier. My back and stomach were supported and no pain. I walked the entire night and I think that was my key to success. It awoke my bowels and I didn't have any of the horrible gas pain. The day after surgery I had my upper gi test to check for leaks. I sipped the barium. They kept trying to get me to drink more, but I knew sipping was advised. Sipping is so important and probably the most frustrating. No more gulping. I need to keep moving so I'm planning a walk with husband to get me back in the swing of things. The hunger is gone. I'm no longer starving or agonizingly hungry. I don't have the urge to stick whatever is nearby in my mouth. It's the most peculiar feeling. Wishing you all the best on your journeys.

    Ok, So, My Liver Shrank...

Yay! This is great news. I'm hoping you'll be off all those meds soon. My husband started his B vitamins during his pre-op diet and that helped with energy.

    Seriously?

I hope this stall is temporary. Try not to let this get you too down.
  13. If you're not taking vitamins yet, start taking them now. Getting in the habit is difficult. The more exercise and strength training you can do now, the better. You'll need those muscles post op. My hospital gave me a binder to wear the day of my surgery and that helped me so much with getting in and out of bed. Lifesaver! Hydrate as much as possible the days leading up to surgery and stick to that diet. What an exciting journey. I wish you all the best.
