    Is it an issue really?
I'm not trying to be flippant, but why are you worried about telling him?
I've played my band fairly low-key. My wife (obviously) knows, as does my pastor, and a few close friends... most people who know me, including people who I have known and eaten with for years, have no clue... and that's the way I like it.
If you get to the point that you are talking marriage, when discussion of medical issues comes into play, then it becomes an issue. If you are not that serious, than it just doesn't matter.

Imvho- don't tell him until you feel it's right. Why should he care? It's not like you have to confess to being a serial killer or that it's even something that would affect him. He knows what you eat like, so whatever. Maybe if it comes up, or he asks (if he sees the scars, etc), you don't want to lie, but you can be nonchalant- "oh, I had lapband a year ago," like it's no big deal- because it's not.
Good luck!!! If it's right it won't matter about the band one iota.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Only thing I recommend is a pen and a pad of paper and prepare all your questions ahead of time. From what I remember at my seminar the Doc ran through the whole thing and did a Q&A thing at the end. He only answered general questions as it was not the time and place to address personal questions.

PattyGirl66 reacted to Jessica43082 in One Year Bandaversary! - Down 89.2 Since Surgery, 113 Total
So today is my one year band-aversary. It was feeling really anticlimatic cause I'm not as far as I'd like to be so I created a collage tracking my progress over the last year. I have lost a total of 113 pounds - 89.2 since my surgery last year. It's odd. I see a huge difference between the first two photos and the other ones, but not really the final four even though it tracks months of progress. Is it just me? Not realizing my body size is the most frustrating part of the weight loss thing. I reached 158.8 this week and am currently unfilled until at least August. I'm guessing the surgeon will leave me unfilled because I've surpassed what his weight loss goal was for me, but who knows.

I haven't yet been banded ( just started the process and insurance will take 5 months) but I think this is a great question. Minus losing the weight as being the reward and shopping for a brand new wardrobe... If and when I ever get married I have always wanted to somehow incorporate part of my moms wedding dress into my own since I know someone that does this for a living. But until I'm down in weight it will never be an option because of my size.

Considering the best reward will be the weight loss and goals. While I haven't given it a thought yet because I am not banded, however I know this sounds ridiculous, but I always wanted a leather jacket. I could own one if I want, but at my weight honestly I never thought I would look good in one. I don't want a long one, I want a short one hopefully one that will show off my weight loss and accentuate my figure.
Great question, and loved all the answers

This is a time for healing and not losing weight. You should not be worrying about weight loss for another 4 weeks.
In the beginning 6 weeks, most of your weight loss will be loss of fluids and not fat loss. Oh, you may lose 4 lbs of fat if you diet heavily but don't expect a lot. Your weight will yo-yo up and down by 1-5 lbs every day depending on your food choices, medications and workout routines.
You will have periods where you lose no weight for weeks on end and then suddenly you will lose 3 lbs. 4 days is nothing. This is a marathon not a 100 yd dash. Expect to lose 2-6 lbs a month once you get restriction.
You need to burn 3500 more calories than you consume to lose 1 single lb. Do the math and you'll see that 2 lbs per week is going to be very difficult but possible. Good luck and follow your doctors orders.

i am also 3 months post op and also loosing my hair. I am excited to try Biotin but have a question about it, my doctor said no pills does it come in liquid or is the pill small enough to go through the band? When i asked about birth control pill the doc told me they were small enough to take.

sipping is going to be a big challenge for me once I am banded. I am sooo worried I am going to screw this up! I already went out and purchased the little 3 ounce plastic cups so I measure everything.
I am a gulper and drink tons of Water now (over a gallon a day). but I don't drink anything else, no coffee, or tea. nothing but Water.< /p>
ohh and the waiting to drink after eatting, I have NOOO clue how I am going to do this. I try doing it now to test myself, and i only last 5 minutes. blah!

Calm down, you can do it. If I can do it anyone can. I am 4 weeks post op tomorrow and before surgery I was a BIG drinker (not alcohol) water, nothing but water, had crystal lite in it but water. Probaby a gallon a day like you. But since surgery you just tell yourself you have to do this. Now on some of my days I get thirsty after a meal and I cannot wait till my hour to hour and half is up and drink but most of the time I eat fish and veggies and I am not thirsty. It will all work out for you, I promise. Like I said, if I can do it you can to.

Yes, i noticed at one point tgat i would cough whenever i ate something and there would be a little mucous. Eventually i got soe night reflux. A slight unfill fixed it.
Ive now had two small unfills ( apart fom a complete unfill for urgery) and i never gained weight after either, so dont fear, just go do it.

The first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing, not losing. Until you are past the post op diet and onto to regular foods you may as well put away your scale. Once you're healed and onto regular food again, then you can start worrying about losing weight.
For now, just stick to your post op diet phases and try to make the best food choices possible.

Just because you weigh heavy on one particular day does NOT mean you've GAINED weight. Our weight fluctuates from day to day depending on many things. Get on the scale i. a few days and I'm sure you'll weigh less. Keep your chin up!

@eyeononederland - I really came up with a number that was realistic, although when I met with the psycologist he told me I would still be obese at 190 for what my bmi would be. Well, I will take 190 compared to what I weight now anyday. To me that is realistic, if I can get lower that would be awesome.
However, I will just take it one pound out a time

    #1. I agree, around 6 weeks.
#2. Regarding the fruit. Fruit is high in carbs and most diet plans want you to keep your carb intake fairly low. Also, many fruits are very fibrous and can cause a blockage(stuck episode) and that's not something you want so early in your recovery.
#3. Jean's right again. Worthless calories. I've allowed myself one beer or one glass of wine per week. Sometimes none and sometimes two. I've found I really don't miss alcohol as well as many other foods.
#4. Most doctors and nutritionists do recommend no fluids up to 15 minutes before and 60 minutes after a meal. I have to say I don't follow this rule and I'll tell you why below. I drink right up to a meal. Sometimes, if I'm excessively tight, I need the liquid to help my meal pass through my stoma(not often). I will also drink right after a meal but only if I have satiated my appetite. But, you should follow your doctors advice.
Now my caveat. As we all travel down our own paths with our bands, we all find ways to make it work(or not) with our bodies. In the beginning I followed the rules as closely as anyone. But as we became familiar with each other(me and my she-band) I've made some adjustments that work for my band and also aid my weight loss journey. Such as drinking during or after a meal. I found that sometimes I had to drink just so I could consume enough of my food to keep up my nutrition levels. I've never drank fluids just so I could eat more food. I'm the one in control over this element of my weight loss plan.
You are not here yet. And it takes time to get to the green zone and understand how your body communicates with your band. For some, it's 3 months and others, years. So be patient and follow the rules till you have some experience under your belt.

I love these people who just drop in to voice their opinion on our lifes when they really don't know anything about what we go through. Band was for me but not for everyone. Let people choose their own surgery . . . some WLS do not work for everyone.
No use exchanging words with them as they are on a mission. We are on a wonderful journey don't let them ruin it for you!!!
