Eating Out... Restaurant... Fast Food.
Dooter replied to sabrina140's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Haven't been faced with this yet, but I think I'd find a Teryaki Chicken bowl, and start at the top with the chicken and work my way to the veggies, and I'd be full before I ever reached the rice. Or just order it without the rice. Ya. That sounds good. -
My surgeon is awesome and has one of the lowest leak rates I found. He has a .01% leak rate where the national average is 1%. He name is Dr. David Kim in Colleyville, Texas. His rate is $12,300 and I was self pay also, but I did not care how much it cost. I wanted the best. So... there's one for ya. http://www.drdkim.net/

Nah...I was taking in liquid pretty well at 4 days. I'd hazard a guess that you're hungry 'cause you can't eat! heehee... That will get better when you can have some protein shakes and cream soups and such. With each stage that gnawing hunger will lessen. It's a process.

Ate 4Oz Piece Of Fish.. Only Took 2 Hours!
Dooter replied to firstday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OH cheese AND CRACKERS!!! I THOUGHT THAT SAID 40 OZ!! hahahaha I was not allowed to chew anything for weeks!! Be careful there -
Hee hee!! I'm with Rootman! But my doc said 2 weeks if I feel up to it, and be "careful." (Especially don't go gettin' knocked up! ) LOL

I was told to use ground bison because it's easier to digest. So far so good! You can make some meatballs out of it and freeze them separately before you bag them up. ?

I made this for dinner tonight with several small portions left over! It's awesome. This dish doesn't know if it wants to be "faux-sagna" or crustless skillet pizza, so I added a few sliced olives at the last minute. GOOOOD stuff!! Thanks for the recipe!

I was told NO MORE sodas. I was a diet coke addict, but will happily comply. I said coffee is a deal breaker fortunately I did not have to give that up!

YAY!!! Congratulations!!! -
I feel your pain. I'm 6 1/2 weeks out and I lost 40 like...right away! Then I stalled for 3 weeks then lost 4 more. Now I'm bouncing that 4 lbs up and down every other day. I'm about to SCREAM!!! I just want to start seeing some more downward movement. I feel the same way you do about being at that point where I've gotten myself before with "dieting" and then getting frustrated and giving up. I think if the scales start moving again, I will have the determination to go on. We can't let ourselves get taken down by the old thought patterns of "Well this is me, I might as well get used to it. Where's a donut???" I'm fighting it hard. God help us.

You're good. I have a big mouth, and a warped sense of justice. I would have had to tell her "I'm sorry, but I was told your job is paperwork. I already saw the surgeon, can we just get this over with???"

Complications - Things Are Not Going Well.
Dooter replied to wannabb08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shoot, I'm 6 weeks out and STILL can't get that much liquid in!! I think you're doing as well as can be expected for such a rocky start! Praying for ya kid. -
Just stroll slowly, but on a very regular basis. Niiiice and easy. I got a little overzealous at that point and would forget myself and just getting in the car too quickly would cause a nice stab in the left side. The hernia repair made that worse too.

Pcp Has Put Doubt In My Mind
Dooter replied to FluffyBleu76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, this may be a bit different in my case, as I started with 200(ish) to lose, so my PCP was happy I did it, and he admitted he did not know much about the sleeve, and I'm his first sleeve patient. (I have to do followups with him, because I had my surgery in Texas, and I'm in New Mexico.) He's VERY supportive and willing to help me stay on track. His biggest concern is that I will hit a rough patch in life and put all the weight back on. That's a valid concern, but not as much of a risk with VSG as it is with the bypass or the band (from all research I've done). I've seen many on here get the sleeve for 50 lbs. If YOU think you are at risk for gaining more or having health problems, then you and the surgeon need to make that decision, and if your PCP won't back you....find one that will. My two cents... -
It's definitely an acquired taste, but if you can get used to it...GREAT source of Protein for such a small cup! Try different brands. They all have a slightly different character. You may find one that makes you go yay!

Has Anyone Else Never Thrown Up?
Dooter replied to traceyc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was on 2/13/12 and I've not thrown up since my leak test in the hospital. (I threw up in the hospital 4 times because I was strict NPO and the "gunk" in my throat kept building up and making me hurl.) I've not thrown up since. I also feel like I'm tolerating all food and feel pretty normal when I'm eating, except for the restriction. My book says that if a food does make you throw up, you either ate too much, too fast, too big of bites, didn't chew well enough or are just temporarily not tolerating that particular food at the moment. I'm thankful to feel so normal so early, but I feel like you- I hope everything is all right and I'm still going to lose weight :s -
Peanut Butter? Pureed Or Not Pureed? That Is My Question...
Dooter replied to hope2Bfitand40's topic in Food and Nutrition
The reason for the pureed food is for safety in healing your surgery. The peanut butter texture is fine for that. I was told at that stage that I could have some peanut butter, but not a lot because of the fat. Of course I got the low fat Skippy. -
When can I have sex? When can I start exercising? Should I be counting calories or carbs or both? How much Protein should I get? When can I eat salad? (I see that one a lot)
