  1. Hilo-tech - are you in Virginia? I'm in Newport News and just switched Drs because of incompetent office workers and red flag warnings going off in my head. Now I'm so happy with the new Dr!
  2. Is that what a pre- op diet is? Protein shakes 3 times a day? I have no clue. Thank you!
  3. Thx for ur reply!! What consists of that diet! I'm uplifted knowing that it might be possible!! My Dr will not be using a pre- op diet so I'm not sure what it is.
  4. Last May, a WL Dr put paperwork in to my ins co to get a pre-authorization to begin a12-month weight loss counseling program. I weighed 206. During the summer I had a terrible family event and put on 20 lbs. On May 2 my yr will be finished and the Dr will put thru the final paperwork and it's going to show that I gained. I'm worried I will be turned down so now I'm desparate to try an lose 15 lbs in 5 weeks. A little depressed because I don't know if I can do it...... His surgical muse has even penciled me in for June 26. I'm do close but feel so far.
  5. I had my one-on-one with my surgeon today. I had a laundry list of questions and he loved how prepared I was. He doesn't use a pre-op diet. I was also concerned about taking my 2 meds. He said that I shouldn't have a problem but not to take them together - that I should be able to sip an ounce of water at a time.
  6. I also belong to gastricsleeve.com. I get the same information here and it's organized so much better here. I just couldn't keep up w/both either! But I felt better checking it out and then making my decision to mske this site my #1 forum!
  7. Suzanne - you said everything I am feeling. I was laughing when I read your response! I actually feel better after reading it! Whew I was really stressing about my fear! I just love this forum!
  8. I'm nervous too! Surgery is mid June. I keep thinking I will get so nervous that I will back out. But I really want the surgery. I need to stop over thinking everything! ????????
  9. Ms V, I am 55 yrs old I have been researching the VSG for 10 months. I have 6 weeks left of a 12 month insurance mandated weight loss counseling program. I have not had a death in the family but I eat for other reasons. I realized that the surgery is only a tool and I have to get a handle on why I eat like I do. So I started seeing a counselor. I know that I can't keep the same habits after the surgery. Good luck to you on your decision! Keep us posted!!
  10. I'm going to tell everyone that I'm exercising and practicing portion control. Both are the truth. I'm over it -- hearing people's opinions. But I've noticed mor and more commercials on TV about WLS so soon enough it'll become more common and more accepted.
  11. I dont have a date yet either but my paperwork goes in to the ins co on May 2 and I should hear something within 2 weeks of that date. I'm shooting for mid June too! I'm getting a little nervous! Happy - nervous!
  12. I have 6 weeks left on the 12 month mandatory weight loss counseling that my insurance requires. The closer I get to the end, the more scared I get. I'm so afraid I will regret surgery but Ive read so many success stories. That helps to keep me positive. I don't want to live this way anymore. I'm just a little scared.
  13. Thanks for asking these questions. I was thinking about the same ones. Hope we get answers!!
  14. Thank you for you response! I need to have faith! I love this forum!!
  15. Have both the psyc Eval and upper GI on Wednesday of this week. I'm nervous about the upper GI cuz I've not heard of anyone having it pre-op. I'm guessing it's cuz the Dr noticed I take something for acid reflux everyday. So scared something is going to block my surgery! I'm so close!!
  16. MegInNOLA thank u for posting all this! I am two months from getting an answer from my ins co. @VACookie - are u in Virginia? I'm in Newport News. This forum is the best! I've learned so much!!
  17. I also heard that if you have a male boss, you can just say something like "I'm having female surgery." He probably won't ask any questions. Good luck on your surgery!! I still have a couple of months. Keep us posted!
  18. Good Morning! In anticipation of my surgery in 2 months, I'm thinking that my life's "movie title," will change from "The Soloist," to "A Star is Born!" LOL!
  19. Thank you all for your responses! This helps me so much.
  20. Wow! It's good to know I'm not the only one that is feeling like you! I see a counselor who had a gastric bypass 10 years ago and when I told her my concerns about being that 2% that might die during surgery, she said that I take a risk every day when I get in my car or when I cross the street on foot. I never looked at it like that. That helped me to make the decision -- I plan on having the surgery in a couple of months. Good luck!!
  21. I have a few months until my surgery. I'm doing all the reading I can about VSG. This forum is FANTASTIC! I have learned so much and I appreciate everyone of you who have given advise. I feel so much better going into this with complete knowledge. I do have a few questions. I have been told that it is much harder to gain weight back after a VSG because the part of the stomach that is left, is much tougher than the part that is removed -- in other words, it doesn't stretch as well. Is this fact? The other question -- well, it's more of a comment. I've told a few people about my venture and I keep getting comments about how I don't have that much weight to lose along with a look of "you've got to be kidding" me. I have 95 lbs to lose. It makes me a bit embarrassed and I know I shouldn't feel this way. Anywho, I'm sure other people have had the same problem. Thanks for reading!
  22. I still have a few months before my surgery. I can't wait to clean my closet and hear those comments! Great job!
  23. I'm in a similar situation as Sleeveme81 and I've decided to only include a couple of people. I find that people are negative sometimes, because they are uninformed. But my concern is when I finally get the surgery. What do you tell people -- especially when you're losing the weight fast?? I hate to lie but I really don't want to hear all the negatives! Thanks!
  24. Wow, your plate has been full! I started the process last April. I approached my insurance company and they said I had to go through 12 months of weight loss counseling. So twice a month I talk to a lady on the phone. I will be released by May 2, 2012 and I'm trying to schedule my surgery for July as that is the only time I can take off a couple of weeks (I work for a university and the faculty are gone at that time). I'm wondering if you could just show up to the Dr.'s office and say that you will wait for the paperwork you need explaining that you only have a few weeks left in this year (for what it's worth). I have also faced negativity when telling friends. It's almost like they are jealous but some just don't understand how I've lived for the past 25 years. I've decided not to tell anyone else! I will pray for you and follow your posts to check in on you. The people on this site really do care about each other. God Bless, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
  25. Dear MissE I am new to this website and I still have 5 months to go for my 12 month pre-surgery weight management counseling that my insurance requires. I have butterflies just thinking about when the time comes for me so I know you must be anxious, happy, hopeful, etc.! I feel for you and you are also in my prayers. I plan on having my surgery in July. I will follow your progress and check in on you! Congratulations to a new chapter in your life, and Happy Holidays!!!
